2013 Headliners

I'm not doubting that an act will be given the step-up, but why Dizzee? As someone's already said, this thread has been the equivalent of people throwing band/artist names at a wall and seeing what sticks. There are other acts that make much more sense than Dizzee. (I know these things don't always "make sense", but Mumford/Florence to me are more likely than Dizzee)

There's actually more to suggest Dizzee right now than there is for almost anything else. The suggestion might be tenuous, but there's still more in that suggestion than there is for almost any other band.

It would appear your talking about me as the person who started the rumour. And I guess I may have been the first to mention it, but I didn't mention it just to throw his name out there.

We have had info from Neil over the past few weeks that acts have been approached and declined and as of about 2 weeks ago they didn't have the third.

We had the info of a week ago (can't remember) that the stones had been offered a lot more than the usual amount.

There was the fact that Dizzee himself just over a week ago tweeted about Glasto very teasingly.

To me, struggling to get a third, and stones being offered lots more money (meaning the third would need to be cheap ish) plus the little message does give enough info that it could be him.

I'm sure there are a few acts that I could make that rationale work for though, Dizzee is as random as any other. A tweet's a tweet. I remember Neil saying that there are acts further down the bill that have been agreed on but haven't been set in stone, Dizzee could have any slot lined up and merely be tweeting about that. It's a stretch to have him in the frame for a headline slot, whatever way you look at it. But we'll all soon see, won't we? I don't think it'd be a terrible thing if it did happen, anyway.

Yep, you could be right about him tweeting about another slot. And it's also a stretch to have him as headliner.

But it's still also the case that he *could* headline. He's one of the few that few would think of as a headliner but who could definitely pull it off. And while he's not done much musically lately to outright justify it, he is still on the rise in other ways - as his inclusion in the Olympics stuff shows.

If you imagine Glastonbury having a list of potential headliners and them working down that list, Dizzee would very possibly be on it, tho a fair way down. I'm a long way from knowing everything that Glastonbury is up to, but from what has come past my ears I'm of the belief that they'll have worked a fair way thru that 'potentials' list by the date of Dizzee's tweet.

If they'd sorted a headliner before he tweeted (and they might have, I don't know) then he's of course not in the running. But if they hadn't sorted a headliner by the date he tweeted, it's not an unreasonable guess to think they've by-then worked their way down to him name on the list.

Do remember that I'm aware* of some they've had that headliner convo with - and not all of them are the superstar status of Bowie.

(* if all my info is correct of course, but I have great faith in some of it)

I see Dizzee as quite possibly having been approached to headline, because enough suggests it could have happened.

I'd be happy with dizzie headlining because if arctics and any two of the stones, gaga, radiohead or fleetwood I'd really like all 3 pyramid headliners and one night I'd quite to see a smaller headliner or just explore, be a difficult decision unless dizzie is headlining

on another note, say Dizzee is the third headliner, are we thinking this purely because the Stones have taken up a big lump of the money and so he'll only be headlining if the Stones do, or does it look like he may well be the headliner regardless? because if it's the latter, and then the Stones decide against it and their slot is filled in with an 'inferior' headliner, then... it's gonna look like a pretty pathetic set of headliners

Wouldit be entirely out of the question for the Smashing Pumpkins to be bumped up? Big band, big back catalogue... Eavis could have a word and say they need to roll out most of the known songs.

In the event that they have been booked/approached about the Other stage this becomes more likely.~

Aphex to release the last 12 years of unreleased stuff he has filling his hard drives and headilne? ;)

i think you're overestimating the amount of people who wouldn't want to watch the Stones. i don't think it's as common knowledge as you'd think that the Stones will probably be shit. i reckon they'll have the biggest crowd Glastonbury's seen if they do play (i know the same was said for U2, but the Stones are another monster all together)

i can't see Pumpkins going up against Stones anyway. at least i hope not as i'm hoping to see both. hope Pumpkins are against (if we're led to believe these are the headliners) Arctics or Dizzee

Agreed the stones will get a massive crowd but a third of the field will be chairs which is why I reckon loads of people will clear off to watch something else. The same happened with Springsteen, we went down to see what it was like and there was a shitload of chairs so went to see someone else. Can't remember who.

Put eels on opposite them, that'll do.

i say i'm going to watch the Stones but i fully expect i'll get maybe half an hour into it and think 'fuck this' and go see somebody else, and hopefully others will join me. at least then i can say i tried. i just wanna see Gimme Shelter. i'll be rather interested to see what the crowds are like for the other acts on at the same time as the Stones. i imagine they'll all start small and get progressively bigger as time goes by and people realise how appalling the Stones are

    • Proper special gig tonight. They won't mean much to most people, but The Dogs D'Amour were one of the most significant bands of my youth.   Tyla, yer main man of said band, was playing in Birkenhead tonight. Not many there, but it was going fine. Then he decided he didn't like the smoke and the flashing lights so suggested moving the gig to the beer garden. Off we all went, and it was magical. Like having your favourite musician play in your garden. I absolutely loved it.   Before:     After:
