2013 Headliners

People always talk about how certain bands can't sub because they're too similar & won't shift the crowds. I get that, but I see this as a massive issue for Mumfords subbing the Stones. I really do. Both will get ridiculously massive crowds. One after the other would be ridiculous.

i'm a bit simple, so could somebody kindly explain the need to have different kinds of bands on after each other?

i know that is what they always do at Glastonbury, but to me, the scariest times in crowds are when everyone is moving at once, for example trying to get out of the Pyramid field just before a headliner, as lots others are arriving to see the headliner. if they had bands that kept people at one stage all the time, would that not alleviate the pressure on the pinch points?

My guess is (and this could be completely wrong ) that if the stages (for simplicity we'll just pretend there are 2 stages, pyramid and other) are running at different times, by having one act that attracts a crowd different to the next act, you'd get that lot clear whilst the demographic for the next act are watching on the other stage, then when they want to come in the area is relatively empty? If you can understand that

That's probably not why they do it at all, but it makes sense to me haha.

Yeah, I'd assume it helps crowd rotation, but I also (naively) think maybe its Glastonbury encouraging people to see more of the site? I try and see acts on most of the major stages each year.

With regards to the above line up, Friday and Sunday are too youth focused. If Arctics play Friday, I assume they'll have either a dance act or some type of older guitar act beneath them, and Sunday will generally revolve around a bit more older focused stuff, rather than three youth based acts in a row.

I reckon if Mozzy and Beyonce would sub then Fleetwood and Mumford wouldn't mind it either, Glasto holds a lot of prestige, these two obviously want to play, if they were offered I reckon they might possibly take it if headline spots were already gone. Kasabian may be completely shite and full of themselves, but I think even they miiiiiight take sub.

Watching footage from the secret sets/ coachella headline & 2003 set. I've had a change of heart, call it a shot in the dark, we know Thom Yorke is going to be at glastonbury. I want a radiohead secret set, further than that a headling set. They would put on such a set! I want them to headline the sunday!

This is true actually.

I reckon Mumford are headline band now, but I think they'd be happy to sub under the Stones (surely most bands would? ), purely because they're so iconic. But yeah it's going to cause crowd problems it wouldn't happen.

I was thinking Bloc Party > The XX > Watch The Throne, but I wasn't sure if that would get the crowds shifting between stages or not.

I think Mumford will play Glastonbury & Reading this year. Subs, headlining Other or even a secret set in The Park (would be dangerous but headliner sized acts have played the past two years) & then sub or headline R&L as a English headline exclusive if they are still playing that old trick.

---Or they headline & R&L have them next year as they have a bad habit of recent of getting in the previous years major UK festivals headlining bands eg IoW & Glastonbury, Bestival to a certain extent & don't know about V.

I also think Chase & Status, Vaccines, XX & TDCC could sub on the Pyramid or headline The Other stage.

why are Hot Chip being placed so highly in all of these predictions? i love them, but they're not a band who could pull a HUGE crowd, especially not as a Pyramid sub / Other Stage headliner

actually, all of the Other Stage headliners in the above prediction are very ambitious - don't think any of them could be considered a massive crowd pulling act these days

it would be great and i do hope they play. absolutely love Hot Chip but always manage to miss them whenever they play, even though they're always at festivals i go to
