2013 Headliners

Right. No whinging here. Just pointing out that "she bangs the drums" verdict that he "sounded great" is the aural equivalent of rose tinted specs. Dare I say though that if there hadnt been 75000 people drowning him out it would have sounded awful.

Would have liked to have gone this weekend, not in the country though

I do say this as not much of a Stone Roses fan but for them to headline Glastonbury next year would seem like a post-reunion-hype after thought for me after doing the Heaton gigs plus V & T. But hey whatever floats your boat.

I too came away thinking his voice sounded far better than it had been previously. It was undoubtedly helped by the crowd singing and the fact that the sound was well done generally but still it was definitely good enough for me and i'm sure the majority of the 210,000 who'll see them this weekend (with slightly rose tinted glasses admittedly). He's not a great singer, not even a good singer, but as others have said his voice isn't the reason people want to see the roses. Musically they were very tight and had a well known set-list, good stage presence, lights, fireworks etc.

They may not be your cup of tea and, given that they will have played lots of other places first, would not be an inspired or original headliner but i think they'd be a popular enough one who could pull it off. I'd take radiohead, the stones, arcade fire or daft punk (probably dp on the other) over them but i'd prefer them to any of last year's headliners...

as i said in an earlier post, i wasn't specifically referring to anybody posting here, but if you have the time and the inclination then have a look at the comments below the review in the Guardian.

http://www.guardian....art-of-comments

and i certainly didn't mean to imply that others couldn't have an opinion, so apologies if that is how it came across, merely that i find it strange that people will have a whinge about a gig they didn't actually attend.

every man and his dog knows what Ian Brown sounds like. he's sounded like that for the best part of 30 years now, it hardly needs pointing out, but it still seems to oin some folk! but i suppose i must accept some responsibility for my own actions in reading those comment sections in the first place.

So erm this is it? This is what people have been clamouring to hear? .... This is what someone said could prove to be "one of the greatest" headliners glastonbury has ever had?

I think I will stick with this generations indie landfill thanks :P

What I would say is that nearly everyone of the 225,000 people that saw them this weekend has come away thinking it was good and I've been contacted by many people who do not usually attend Glastonbury asking me what they need to do to register as they really want to see them again which could make things a lot busier on T-day.

    • Proper special gig tonight. They won't mean much to most people, but The Dogs D'Amour were one of the most significant bands of my youth.   Tyla, yer main man of said band, was playing in Birkenhead tonight. Not many there, but it was going fine. Then he decided he didn't like the smoke and the flashing lights so suggested moving the gig to the beer garden. Off we all went, and it was magical. Like having your favourite musician play in your garden. I absolutely loved it.   Before:     After:
