The torch relay will be coming within a few miles of my home in the next couple of days and for me that's just something else to avoid. Traffic congestion, roads closed - for what?

And as for legacy if you look at previous Olympic cities very few have actually got lasting legacy facilities that are used other than by fairly small groups of the elite.

Economic benefits - tell that to the Greeks.

So, apart from a big ego trip to politicians and a big debt to everyone else what do the Olympics bring?

I couldn't be less interested in the event. One of my friends called around and asked if I wanted to go and see the cycling in the velodrom. I said I didn't. Or something to that effect anyway.

I have no interest in most olympic sports, but someone told me they'd got table-tennis tickets, and on hearing that I thought that sounded like it'd be good to go to. I'm not, but there's a few things like that that people have mentioned that I'd have gone to if offerred a spare ticket.

I always loved the Olympics in the past, and been really into it, but it's only since i've moved to london i've realised the actual damage it does to the city, in the present and the future. It definitely is a case of NIMBY.

I live in East, not too far from Stratford, and there's definitely not overwhelming optimism for it here.

I'm not too knowledgeable about the actual local organisation of Euro's (I guess we'll find out if the Celtic nations get 2020), but I'm much more looking forward to that.

I don't follow any sports so it's fairly easy for me not to get involved. That said, you mentioned table tennis, and that has been fab to watch on the odd occasion that I stumbled across it on tv. It's barmy the skill and accuracy involved.

The only sport I play competitively is boules - the French version of bowls, played on gravel with steel balls that you throw rather than roll. I've played in a few International matches in France but, as it's not yet an Olympic sport, I've not even got that to get into.

The torch was in Bristol yesterday & today, and it's completely fucked up the city. They've even changed the train timetables ffs, and trains that were listed as running for yesterday last Saturday suddenly disappearred. :angry:

The missus was in a taxi last night that kept getting blocked by road closures trying to get back to our house, and then suddenly, somehow, the taxi was on one of the closed roads and drove right past the guy carrying the torch.

Given the number of armed old bill around, it's a wonder they weren't shot for doing that.

Meanwhile, the TV has been reporting the "tens of thousand in Bristol" who came out to see the torch - one big lie!!!! There was barely anyone lining the roads.

God knows how bored the country will be of the whole thing in a few weeks time.

20 Quid for womens beach volleyball on a sunday night and plenty of decent football at Wembley!!

odd as when I was in hanam watching it the streets were crowded, was after work and sunny of course. My Mum in weston Bath also said it was rammed. Maybe you had the wrong road. Still it meant you had a good view I guess

the bristol end of that road (Church Road, as it is in St.George/Redfield) wasn't even one person deep. And as for Millennium Square, there were maybe 150 people there, from the TV pictures (the overhead ones, it looked far more from other angles).

I wasn't there to see it, I ain't that sad. I only know cos my missus was in a taxi on the closed road, waving at the torch bearer as she drove past him/her
