Jessie J

Why is everyone saying she will be on the JP stage? No way she'll be there. JP has normally indie, rock, NME type of music the good stuff :P . Maybe the park or one of the dance stages. Just so she's miles away from me I'll be alrite.

Because that's where Ellie Goulding played last year, who won the same acolade and is of a reasonably similar style. The lines are blurred between genres when it comes to people like Jessie J and Ellie Goulding. If Marina and The Diamonds played JP, I'm pretty sure Jesse J will. Little Boots played JP in 2009, the year she won it.

She is too big for The Park, or certainly will be by June. I guess the same for Dance.

Duffy was in the Sound of 2008 and played The Other stage. Whether Jessie J will be as big or as suited to a festival appearance as Duffy was at that time, and play Other, I doubt.

granted. do it like a dude is terrible.

but she is brilliant live, and her small catalogue of songs are actually very varied and beautiful.

also has a pretty tragic story behind her, had already had a stroke and has heart problems.

no need to watch her, but I would give her a chance if there was nothing else going.

I predict a VV Brown/ Paloma Faith Slot on Pyramid

That slot could be a good shout.

Paloma Faith was excellent last year. She won 'costume of Glasto'!

I was blown away when I saw her on Jools (see below) but the single was a crushing disappointment and almost like a completely different artist. She might yet prove to be quite interesting. On a separate (and superficial) note, she seems to have that Florence thing of looking way older than she actually is, don't you think?

Well I saw her last night at KOKO. She was excellent. Judging her on just "Do It Like A Dude" is as silly as judging George Lucas on the Star Was Christmas Special (look it up...)

Very impressive set. Good range of songs, all written by herself. Excellent voice. Wonderful stage presence for someone who's only just starting out. My guess is she'll be pretty big by the time June rolls around. She'll either have a JP or Other Stage slot and I'll aim to be there for it.

That's fantastic. Her voice has a huge potential. Hope there's more like that and less like 'Do it like a Dude' on the new album.

I still think a JP slot will be fine.

Yep I was there as well and have to say I was very impressed as well. I think she could pull off an early slot on the Other stage to be honest. Cracking voice, great song writing talent and good interaction with the crowd.

When you see her perform it makes the comparisons to Ke$ha earlier in this thread laughable.

I'm of the the opinion that this is something of a masterpiece. I have high hopes for the album and expect that Jessie J will will play a storming Dance East set on the Friday or Saturday afternoon.

maybe she'll be a bit like rihanna. her first single was absolutely awful. but look at her now.

is the sound of losing it's touch though or am i? doesn't seem to have been as many in 2010 who have made it big unlike the previous 3 or 4 years.

She originally wrote the song for Rihanna.

I'm glad that someone like Jessie J is out there affirming herself in an industry where the songwriters are usually hushed away behind closed doors. We also need more confident lesbian singers out there to help rid the industry of overt homophobia. "Do It Like A Dude" is a fantastic single and I wish her the best of luck :)

Whilst I agree that the real talent in music is writing - music or lyrics - and should be more highly regarded, "We also need more confident lesbian singers out there to help rid the industry of overt homophobia." is the sort of line that utterly defeats the idea of equality.

Whether someone is gay, straight, asexual, or turned on by sheep is about as relevant as whether the songwriter/performer's favourite colour is red, pink, green or blue, i.e. it isn't. By highlighting the issue, you're just making it an issue, which for true equality it shouldn't be.

Example: A couple of gay friends, one of them does interior design. I'd never let him anywhere near my house as I don't like his stuff. Another one is an IFA. She does all my financial planning as I respect her abilities. Who they fancy or f**k has absolutely nothing to do with it.

    • Possibly not as there are chair size restrictions in the seated area, for the guidelines see here -  https://www.bbc.co.uk/backstage/radio2inthepark/bring   Have a look into applying for Access and I would recommend contacting them for further advice before buying a ticket - https://www.bbc.co.uk/backstage/radio2inthepark/access  They should also be able to answer if you can take a wheelchair into the seated area 🙂
