The fact that we now might not be looking at a mudbath and the fact that Glaso is near makes me want to hug lots of people. The people at work wouldn't be too open to that I think so i shall send a hug to everyone here :D

From my unbelievably limited understanding of these things (I just tend to blindly rant about what I want and what I think is best for others without knowing my subject, much like a politician) it appears as if the models/themes are starting to converge and this is where the accuracy starts to increase. From the last set of forecasts it looks like rain sometime this weekend, with intermittent sun/showers early next week and the good chance of staying dry thereafter. TBH I think I'd take that.

What's the chances of the high that's building pushing up temperatures a smidge? A bit of additional warmth would really help drying the ground out after the recent deluges.

I would imagine that with a bit of luck the drainage will be fine. I am basing this on blind optimism. I guess our main worry is the mud being created at all the major junctions by the movement of the set up crew. Of course if it is dry they might also compact this a little.

OK it would appear that I don't know what I am talking about but I am glad we are worried about pre festival rain than rain during the weekend!

2008 - I seem to recall the ground being pretty soft for pitching the tent on the wednesday and (looking at my photos), there was scattered cloud all day Weds and Thur.

Early evening the heavans opened for about 4 hours, and was pretty steady rain - I remember sitting at camp in my waterproofs getting really worried about a repeat of 2007...

It was overcast, and rained (very lightly) on and off during the Friday - but stopped Friday evening. By saturday lunch you could happily sit on the ground most places aross the site - as long as you didn't mind a little mud on your shorts.

2009 was almost exactly the same - poured down for a few hours on the Thursday - was dry by Saturday, except where the water had gathered (JP, entrance to Jazz World) - where it was more welly weather.

I sat on the floor watching a rugby match on the Saturday morning, and got a touch of sunburn.

Drainage working pretty well - as long as it gets a break from consistent rain!

OK - until now, i've mostly stayed out of this thread to preserve my sanity. I have now given in, and will be addicted until I set off for the campervan fields tuesday evening. During this time I will be mostly lurking in here, obsessively checking every weather forecast I can find and generally avoiding doing any work :O

I always thought it only becomes a mudbath when it rains and then people walk on the water and grass straight after? If it rains this weekend but not after then I would have thought it would be OK, any water would have a good few inches under the surface and hence it would not be muddy under foot.

I also wouldnt worry about the mud churn created by the crew, they mainly go to the places us mere mortals aren't allowed to, and most of the paths they drive down are covered anyway

As long as we dont have a lot of rain during the festival then there will be no mud

I am not a drainage expert by the way so am probalby talking bollocks

Couldn't resist the dark side and had a look at MetCheck:

it's too early yet for any weather forecast to mean very much. The weather they're predicting is likely to happen, but when it happens is still up in the air - it might happen sooner (the most likely, history tells me), or it might happen later.

It's not like knowing the weather early is much good to anyone anyway - what will happen will happen.

This time next week is the time to be looking .... and here's betting that what Metcheck is saying then turns out to be the nearest of any weather site to what does happen.

Hi Neil,

1) You do realise this thread was started on October 4th don't you.

2) :O You're not from round here, are you?

3) I am very interested in taking you up on your bet. Do really have that much faith in Metcheck? I wouldn't trust them to predict yesterday's weather. How's about a nice hot cinamon cider as a wager?

    • Best of all is to get the tram, then call a taxi for very short not-rip-off ride once in the centre.
    • Would you decide to go once more I recommend to queu up at the ‘official’ freenow taxi line ( 5 min walk from the main gate). It might take 15 min or so but they are not ripping you off. Even at 3 or 4 in the night it costed us about 25eur to the city center.
    • How do you mean? Better as a hotel/ festival combo?   I've done rock am ring at both sites.....unpopular opinion I much preferred the mending site and really didn't like the long and narrow main stage at RaR.
    • Yesterday was another brilliant day of music for me. Some highlights:  My Bloody Valentine - absolutely loved it! Maybe my main festival highlight. I felt submerged in the music with all the layers and distortion. It becomes hypnotic almost as it progresses. Not as loud as some thought it might be, but it didn’t need to be. The visuals added a lot too. During the noise part of You Made me Realise, I was basically in a trance staring at the visual tunnel or whatever it was on screen. Amazing experience. Little Simz - as she mentioned at the start, you’re guaranteed a good time with her. Great performance just like in 2022. Zero complaints. The little DJ section wasn't something I expected but was cool. Kneecap - I had a blast but at this point in the night I was at my most intoxicated let's say, so I don’t remember it as clearly as I'd have liked to!    The xx - The sound for this was perfectly balanced (at least where I was) and the band were great. Lots of talkers, but with the crowd size and being kind of far back, it's to be expected. Intro was one of my favourite moments this year. Big Thief - really good live performers. The lead singer has a lovely voice. This was a nice chill way to kick off the mordor gigs for me.
    • I've been attending Primavera every year since my first one in 2017 & it's always been my favourite week of the year, but I think things have changed.   Firstly, the site just feels too busy in this current set-up. I'm sure it was a lot easier back in 2017-19 to get between the stages & then a good spot for the next one, but now you increasingly have to sacrifice parts of a set or miss them out completely to plan for later on. I wish we still had the Bits area over the bridge to spread everyone out.   But the main issue is the talking, it's always been here but this year it's been relentless & I just can't tolerate it any more. It's at every stage, and everywhere from the front to the back, there is no escape. Not focusing on nationalities, but a major dynamic now seems to be groups of people who are only focusing on their own good time & aren't interested if this affects anyone else. It seems essential that all members of the group are together at the same time, so it's people making telephone calls, people on shoulders waving phone torches, people barging through. It's alright, I'm only trying to watch The Cure here.   I will have a year away to think about it. I thought might give up completely but yesterday was a bit of a classic day after two unenjoyable ones. Adding Olivia Rodrigo to Baxter Dury, Gelli Haha, The XX, Gorillaz & Kneecap shows how good it can be, but as with everything, it's always the people that have the biggest impact.
