Finally, after three days, finished untangling and rewinding a ball of yarn. Dear god, the sense of relief!

Oh yeah, and decorating the tree with our toddler who is SO excited!

Her: "he's going to love it!"

Us: "who is?"

Her: "Father Christmas!!"

With regards to that daily heil article, most of the comments are focussing on the statement that it is not possible to overdose or have too much cannabis.

This is in fact, incorrect.

There is a condition, called Cannabinoid hyperemesis, where you overload your cannabinoid receptors and uncontrollable vomiting ensues. It takes a long time, of smoking alot of cannabis to do this (months/years of regular heavy daily use with no breaks in usage) but technically it is possible to put yourself into a long term whitey. I've known a few people who have reached the point where ganja just makes them feel sick/ill/rough and have had to lay off it for a while and have experienced this myself in the past.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cannabinoid_hyperemesis_syndrome

Still, the article (which is their interpretation of wider research, which is reported much differently elsewhere, see: http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-25232818 ) is pathetically typical of the kind of take on things that the Hate mail and it's readership of mindless drones specialise in. Taking research which covers a sample of millions and breaks it down statistically and then focussing on less than 1000 cases is the worst kind of revisionism, as it leads the readership to be unaware of the real results (that alcohol is the single largest rising cost to our health service affecting ALL age groups, that the poorest in society are the most likely to suffer ill health as a result of lifestyle compared to wealthier counterparts with the same habits)

I like the fact that they highlight that Paul McCartney gave up last year after nearly fifty years of use aged 71. I don't think they understand what a counter argument to the health concerns of ganja use it is to mention that heavy smoking macca is still fit as a fiddle.

I used to do that with my nan, it's a brilliant feeling.

It's ridiculously expensive yarn to make an infinity scarf for my mum, but the tangled ball is pretty ruined so will make a mandala or something for our house instead. 3 other balls on standby for the scarf and 2 for my dad - it's alpaca, so so so soft. But bloody hell, I was ready to burn it at points over the weekend!

Someone in our Luxembourg office tax haven (I work from London) posted me a box of Ferrero Rocher to say thanks for helping her and merry Christmas. Really nice to be randomly appreciated :)

Fixed that for you :P

Bastard Builders finally pulled their fingers out, cleared their equipment out of the house and tonight we'll be sleeping in our new bedroom for the first time. No curtains, so we'll probably wake up at first light.

And the new kitchen is just about finished except that the main radiator still isn't working so it's a bit like eating in a fridge.

Still a long way to go to complete everything and unlikely to be finished by Christmas - despite a contracted completion date of Nov 18th.

The most unbelievably gorgeous aroma of imminently ready cake - mmmmm pie cake lick.gif - wafting through from the kitchen as Mr.Oven does it's stuff on the biggest, juiciest, richest , darkest and most excellent fruit cake ever invented to (hopefully !) bake said cake to the peak of perfection :) And NO, it's absolutely definitely NOT even remotely close to being a fcuking C*****mas cake seeing as I don't do C*****mas in any way shape or form ! It's simply pure coincidence that a ridiculously extravagant fruit-based cake just so happens to be being made in the run-up to a certain stupid period of alleged mandatory festive celebration and all that ;)

... wanders off muttering Bah Humbug whilst seriously contemplating the manufacture of some mincemeat-based pastry products just because he can and because he also likes pigging out on them very much indeed as well. Jolly nice cakes and pies are for life not just for C*****mas you know - a policy strictly adhered to, as admirably demonstrated by the waistline

PS: Behold, I bring you tidings of great joy ... the best part of 3Kg of extra-yummy, waistline expanding and artery clogging stylee cakeiness :P

Some progress. Dodgy radiator fixed - faulty thermostat valve - so it's warming up. BBs now working on balcony - except they mis-measured first time so it's been taken down and is now being re-fitted.

Mrs GH used her new oven for the first time yesterday and baked the builders a cake as encouragement.

That's a fucking beauty. I think my drool is just about to make a connection with my keyboard. This could get interesting.

Finished my teaching today till the New Year - though I've a shedload of marking and preparation to do over the break for five new courses I'll be starting in Jan and Feb.

The learners did really well today. When they do well you can say: "It's because I'm a good teacher." If they do badly you say: "Well they were a crap group anyway!"

    • Tonight was a disgrace. There wasn't *that* much rain, and it wasn’t *that* windy. A festival of this size should be able to withstand some adverse weather without it bringing the whole circus to a standstill. And if it is true that part of a speaker on the Revolut stage fell…   As for the communication - announcing Massive Attack were playing at 12:30 and then nothing for over an hour while people waited in the rain. It’s laughable it really is.   If I said I’ll never come back again I’d be lying. The shambles of Barcelona 2022 and the disgrace of Madrid 2023 didn’t stop me, so this probably won’t either.   This festival gets so much wrong, but it is always saved by having such killer line-ups. It’s just a shame it treats the fans/customers/consumers like animals. Compare it to somewhere like Glastonbury and it’s worlds apart.
    • Yeah, I admit that a small part of me felt relieved when they announced that MA are canceled.. But on the positive side- got to see Florence Road afterall, and they were great
    • Glad I could take the €3 bus to Playa Catalunya! Hope y'all warm and dry up.
