Finally got a day off, then back in to work through the night xmas eve, xmas day and boxing day for variations on double and triple time.

Sadly not going to get paid this week (due to payroll cutoff) and only got a fiver left til a week Friday, but I'm not going to let that get me down :P

You're working Christmas day and you're not getting paid? What do you do? If that was me I'd be coincidently ill.

I am getting paid, just not til the new year, I don't celebrate xmas at all so it's no great shakes to me and the money is great (when it arrives), the only downside is the 4 mile walk there and back each day with the weather now being shit.

Massive thanks to Yog for his message, I appreciate it, but I'm fine. You are brilliant though :D

4.2% Chocolate Coffee Stout :)

You better believe its all about the taste :) Its not fermented yet and already tastes fantastic :D

If it was about getting drunk I wouldn't of bothered making it for 6 hours... Cleaning for an 1 hour... Wait 5 or so days to ferment.... Then spend a couple of hours bottling it... and then wait another 4 to 8 weeks for it to condition...

If it was about getting drunk I would just buy some pissy lager and get wasted much more easily :)

Now you've got me salivating.

How do you make it, is if from a kit?

I want some!

No kit... From first ingredients.

Northern Brewer Hops

Pale Malt

Crystal Malt

Chocolate Malt

Roasted Barley

Torrified Wheat

Flaked Oats

Coca Powder

Cold Brew Coffee

and my fave pic :)

That looks amazing!

Though intimidating to make from scratch. is there a risk of explosion or anything, if you don't do it right? how did you learn how to make it?

Like to share the recipe mikeb?

Yeah sure ... but Mr.Cake really needs a sensible amount of time to mature so it's not been sampled yet to make sure that it tastes quite as good as it looks. The proof of the pudding cake is very much in the stuffing liberal quantities of it in your gob and all that :P Probably best to wait until temptation finally gets the better of me, I whack some marzipan & icing on and then attack it with a vengeance  The thing is it wasn't a published recipe, I kinda made it up as I went along based primarily on what I had to hand rather than having to spend dosh on lots of specific stuff or anything too special so some tweaks may be necessary. Also my first attempt at such a beast as well because I've only got a very ancient microwave/combi jobbie rather than a full size 'proper' oven. I've been reluctant to even try anything like this for donkey's years as I wasn't convinced it could sensibly cope with something quite so big that needed so long to bake. Does look pretty d@mn handsome tho so I'm definitely well impressed so far. However, it ought to stay packed away for several months at least really ... although I rather suspect that it's going to be very lucky if it gets a couple of weeks max lurking in it's box before my patience expires. Bread and munchies various tend to get attacked almost as soon as they're out of the oven and always well before they've cooled down fully that's for sure  Anyways, just had a sneaky peek and it's looking/smelling even better than when it came out of the tin so the plan is to finish it off sometime later this week and then introduce Mr.Cake to Mr.Knife on Sunday. I reckon hacking a quarter off after just a couple of weeks and then leaving the rest for long as I can manage to keep my sticky fingers off it is an entirely reasonable compromise !

Happy that I have 6 weeks of work.

2 weeks Christmas holiday

2 weeks booked holiday

2 weeks paternity leave(wife due in 10 days)

Woo hoo, it's going to be an interesting few weeks.

I'm sorry, I'm in a pedantic mood.

off work.

where's your wife due to go? Who's giving birth to her?

(baby due, I presume)

Anyway, I'm just jealous.

Congratulations :)

I just got confirmation that the temporary xmas position I have been working will now be extended and I'm being kept on. Some companies value hard work and commitment, some just give jobs to their mates, proof positive that leaving my last job was the right thing to do and now I'm working for a company on the rise, not one doomed to fail.

I ran with this theory too about 2 years ago when I was monumentally depressed. The down side was that I put on 2 stone doing it.

How about...chocolate ice cream, to get the best effects from each. Then, during the sugar and endorphine rush, get out your ipod and go for a walk/run? Then you get the high from the whole package, sugar, chocolate, music and exercise, and limit the calorific payback?

Have you thought about writing a best selling diet book?

You are onto a winner

It's a nice theory but I have already decided to give up on eating sweet things as from tomorrow. I also intend to take up exercising, even if it's just going for a walk of an evening. I need to get more healthier than I am. I rely too much on getting about in my car that I don't even walk very far, at present. I've managed to do this before so can't see why I can't achieve this again. Time will tell.
