I'm completely shocked. Just got up this afternoon after working last night and didn't understand a text sent to me from 'TimeSpeedsUp'. Had to come on here just to check my suspicions.

Blimey! :P

Well, I'm amazed in a good way. I'm not afraid to admit I'm a big fan of theirs since 1980 and seen them live in London every tour of theirs since the War album. So seen them over 20 times from small venue in Hammersmith to upteenth times at Wembley. (never travelled to see them so not that fanactical :P )

Enjoyed every single gig & I keep going back for more!

I'll defo be there for their Fri night set! :P

Is it too late for me to start the annual "U2 might play this year" rumour thread?

Im not going to Glasto this year unfortunately but if you are, you are in for a treat.

If your a hater, or not quite sure about them give them a chance, their live shows are something else.

The only downside i can see if the poor Pyramid sound or a huge crowd making it a bit of a let down.

Glasto is all about trying some things new or what you wouldnt normally be interested in.... give them a go.

I might be reading too much into this statement but are you being really cryptic? Could this reveal simply be a name added to the rumour page? Does this mean that because Led Zepp are on the rumour page that its going to be them?

No, I'm not being cryptic - I'd need to know now what I'll be saying later to be that.

As much as I don't like U2 I'm actually quite glad they're playing, I've been curious to see just why they are so huge but there is no way I'm paying £80+ for a reasonable ticket, with the bonus being that if they are shite I can go elsewhere, but if they are good then I'll be seeing something special that I'll remember for a long time. Although having them as a headliner rules out someone I like filling that slot its still a win-win for me!

Wow didn't think it would actually be true, well done Michael Eavis on getting them.

Is it wrong that I feel quite smug that every other festival is probably gonna have a shit lineup compared to Glasto? (assuming the other bands/artists playing are of a similar caliber)

Like many who've posted on here, I was a U2 fan then drifted away, but it's a great announcement for GF and depending what the alternatives are, I'll probably be amongst the Pyramid crowd. Elbow in support is a pretty good shout too (have they got a new album due out soon as well?)

I think the Other Stage will have a 'Radio 1 crowd' headliner (Dizzee or Biffy Clyro?). Real problem comes if there's a legend on the Jazz or Acoustic (like Ray Davies in Acoustic this year vs Neil Young).

Ahh, sweet November Glastobation, lovely :P

    • Would you decide to go once more I recommend to queu up at the ‘official’ freenow taxi line ( 5 min walk from the main gate). It might take 15 min or so but they are not ripping you off. Even at 3 or 4 in the night it costed us about 25eur to the city center.
    • How do you mean? Better as a hotel/ festival combo?   I've done rock am ring at both sites.....unpopular opinion I much preferred the mending site and really didn't like the long and narrow main stage at RaR.
    • Yesterday was another brilliant day of music for me. Some highlights:  My Bloody Valentine - absolutely loved it! Maybe my main festival highlight. I felt submerged in the music with all the layers and distortion. It becomes hypnotic almost as it progresses. Not as loud as some thought it might be, but it didn’t need to be. The visuals added a lot too. During the noise part of You Made me Realise, I was basically in a trance staring at the visual tunnel or whatever it was on screen. Amazing experience. Little Simz - as she mentioned at the start, you’re guaranteed a good time with her. Great performance just like in 2022. Zero complaints. The little DJ section wasn't something I expected but was cool. Kneecap - I had a blast but at this point in the night I was at my most intoxicated let's say, so I don’t remember it as clearly as I'd have liked to!    The xx - The sound for this was perfectly balanced (at least where I was) and the band were great. Lots of talkers, but with the crowd size and being kind of far back, it's to be expected. Intro was one of my favourite moments this year. Big Thief - really good live performers. The lead singer has a lovely voice. This was a nice chill way to kick off the mordor gigs for me.
    • I've been attending Primavera every year since my first one in 2017 & it's always been my favourite week of the year, but I think things have changed.   Firstly, the site just feels too busy in this current set-up. I'm sure it was a lot easier back in 2017-19 to get between the stages & then a good spot for the next one, but now you increasingly have to sacrifice parts of a set or miss them out completely to plan for later on. I wish we still had the Bits area over the bridge to spread everyone out.   But the main issue is the talking, it's always been here but this year it's been relentless & I just can't tolerate it any more. It's at every stage, and everywhere from the front to the back, there is no escape. Not focusing on nationalities, but a major dynamic now seems to be groups of people who are only focusing on their own good time & aren't interested if this affects anyone else. It seems essential that all members of the group are together at the same time, so it's people making telephone calls, people on shoulders waving phone torches, people barging through. It's alright, I'm only trying to watch The Cure here.   I will have a year away to think about it. I thought might give up completely but yesterday was a bit of a classic day after two unenjoyable ones. Adding Olivia Rodrigo to Baxter Dury, Gelli Haha, The XX, Gorillaz & Kneecap shows how good it can be, but as with everything, it's always the people that have the biggest impact.
