Oh... U2 are one of those bands for me in which the cheesy, grating, slimy, gross, irritating and hideous frontmen that are Bono and the Edge far over take any good which they may have produced.

Plus any other headliner takes away from the chance that Radiohead might play.

As others have said big coup for the festival and a big big draw for the mass's however I will be hoping for a decent other stage headliner as they ain't to my personal taste (Slightly intrested in seeing them to say I seen them but who knows :P)

I think that anyway really could still follow them up, it could even be Muse, they have the live awesome to do it!

Neil,

Do you think U2's people have let it slip earlier than they should have? I can imagine a rather peaved Emily and Michael sittling round the Worthy Farm Kitchen table this morning cursing the fact that The Sun of all papers has announced the headliner in November.

I've seen them a few times, and said I wouldn't again (on the basis the last time I went was full of people really not interested in the bad at all, and we talking over anything but Beautiful Day era stuff). However, IF they just knock out the hits, and IF Bono doesn't go too over the top, and IF they realise it's glasto , not their gig, it could well be AMAZING. (A few Ifs there).

Never been one of my Favourite bands, some of their earl stuff is really good though, if they play some of their classics it'll be well worth seeing.

as others have said ill feel sorry for whoevers playing thr Other stage at the same time.

I think that Radiohead are a certainty not to play now, as the slot they most likely would have suited would be Friday and Sunday is a young person's band. I think the organizers would want them to headline 2011 as it would draw back the original Glastonbury crowd, as it is most likely this year will see many more new punters going for the fact its the 40th year.

Never say never.

Radiohead are probably still a contender along with Muse. I can't see any problem with Radiohead on the Saturday and Muse on the Sunday. That would be a dream for me but I'm 100% content they have U2. Anything else now is a bonus

I'd guess that it was planned to be announced today - everything seemed to happen too quickly for there to have been calls made to various places to find out if it could be announced.

I'd guess that U2's PR people tipped off the Sun (I posted earlier that they're known to be cosy), but that Giddins, Eavis, the BBC, U2's website and Glasto's website were all ready to go with the news today anyway.

    • Really well done, Primavera. Maybe the biggest name on the lineup as a surprise. (Ecpecially if Robert joins this)
    • There's one way it can get bigger- if Robert Smith joins her on stage
