Big booking for Michael Eavis....They will get a huge crowd, would imagine easy as big as Springsteen managed. Will i be there...depends on who else he has booked, and what sort of set list they do..early sfuff ok, don't rate the new material. How is Michael going to top this for Saturday and Sunday. :P

Must say I'm surprised this crept under the radar Neil. Up to 10am you were still less than convinced. A massive coup for the Fest im sure you'd agree. Regardless of your personal take on their music they are the biggest band to have yet played. Only the Stones or Led Zep could realistically play the Saturday night now. Muse or Radiohead would be two reasonable backups though as they would appeal to the festivals "base".

You were confident about Foo Fighters earlier in the year, though. Hmmm.

I'm only able to say with confidence what I know.

I doubted U2 being true mostly on the basis that it means them flying to the UK and back to the USA in a few days. It's not normally what bands would choose to do.

Yep, it's without doubt a great booking. I'm not sure I'd agree that they're the biggest band to yet play tho (tho I won't argue about it) - they are, after all, struggling a bit for credibility nowadays, and I'm guessing they're doing this to try and get some of that credibility back. Bono recently suggested that they might be smaller than The Killers (yes, I think that's a joke).

At no point have I been confident about the Foos - all I've said is that Eavis has talked about them possibly headlining next year, but couched that with his doubts about whether they're suitable headliners. Added to that is me knowing that there has been conversations with the Foos about headlining (tho they were further ago than Eavis's comments). Quite why you think I've been confident about it being the Foos I've no idea.

Legend:

Prince - would be brilliant, but is notoriously difficult; rumored to have flaked out in the past

Paul McCartney - can't get much bigger than a Beatle playing the best of the Beatles, but deja vu

The Who - too soon

Rolling Stones - rumors been going strong since people were abandoning their wellies at the gate

R.E.M. - star has faded in recent years, but how can anyone honestly object

David Bowie - already said he wasn't playing :P

Good shout.

Some kind of "All Star" band thing on the Saturday night could be a runner. Tough to organise but an option if they wanted to involve multiple egos that couldnt be otherwise accomodated but would lend the fest the substance required to balance a U2 headline spot on Friday.

The Other Stage headliners this year were all acts that can and do headline smaller festivals; I imagine the same will be true this year. I have a feeling The Prodigy will be back because they can always be counted on to help with crowd control by drawing a significant number of people away from the Pyramid.

Just think, remember how insane the nighttime clashes were this year. Bruce vs Jarvis vs Franz? Blur vs Prodigy vs Black Eyed Peas (lol why would someone choose them?) vs Echo the Bunnymen? Expecting crazier for 2010 since everyone wants the publicity and cred that comes with playing the 40th.

    • Possibly not as there are chair size restrictions in the seated area, for the guidelines see here -  https://www.bbc.co.uk/backstage/radio2inthepark/bring   Have a look into applying for Access and I would recommend contacting them for further advice before buying a ticket - https://www.bbc.co.uk/backstage/radio2inthepark/access  They should also be able to answer if you can take a wheelchair into the seated area 🙂
