Anyone else not really care who plays?

I know we're all excited, that Glastobating is accepted practice round here and I don't mean to piss on anyone's chips with this but here goes.

Whilst there's no doubt that a big part of Glasto is the music, I really don't mind who is/isn't playing - particularly on the main stages. There's so much to see, hear, do, drink and so many people to talk to that I'd go even if I was banned from seeing any of the musical artists. It's such a weird and wonderful place.

There's actually a part of me that wishes some of the acts/headliners on the main stages aren't to my liking so I can wander around elsewhere without feeling conflicted.

(I would however still be angry if Madonna played on principle).

Surely I'm not the only one?

Well I would hope for a couple of my favourite bands to make some sort of appearance at Glasto , although saying that this year at T on the Sunday I spent the day in the futures tent after gaslight anthem and until Blur came on, didn't know any of the bands really but had a really good relaxed time not knowing and discovering a few gems.

So part of me sort of dosn't care and the other part wouldn't mind who plays especially with all the other stuff at glastonbury to go and see.

Nope, you're not alone. I was actually annoyed last year when there were quite a few bands I wanted to see and more annoyed in hindsight that I made the effort to go and see them instead of doing something else. I guess part of it is because I live in London and have the opportunity to go to plenty of gigs in great venues, so get spoiled rotten seeing some great gigs. Glastonbury is easily one of the worst venues I have seen bands at this year.

Much more fun to be had wandering around having a laugh with randomers than catching the odd glimpse of a band in between some flags in a big field.

So yeah I couldn't care less about the lineup at all and to be fair it's not a great concern to most people as the tickets have sold out without a single artist being named as we know we'll have a great time regardless.

I am getting well bored of the "Insert band name here" are sure to play/are rumoured to play threads though, even though I've noticed quite a few of those are started by people who've not been to Glastonbury before and are naturally excited.

There will be a great turnout I am sure.

We missed loads of bands this year and I am sure I will next year..

The whole spectacle is superb.. Lost in the dance tents or chilling in the Glade.. Sat up on top of Pennards watching the view or asleep in my tent in Paines Ground..

Sunshine or the wrong sort of mud we will enjoy..

I don;t mind at all.., there are a few bands that I'd really like to catch and see play G, but other than that wander , meander and see what happens

In '09 I had the best time ever regardless of the 3 Pyramid headliners not being among my favourite artists.

There's enough going on to GUARANTEE a top weekend.

I'm not bothered about the line-up, but only because I know that amongst what they've booked with be some well-known bands I love and some rarities I'm dying to see.

And amongst it all will be bands I've never heard of that will prove to be better than the acts I'm looking forwards to.

If other festivals had the same skills as the Glastonbury programmers I might like them more than I do.

I go to G in a group of friends that ranges at one extreme - detailed band/stage planning, knowing where you're gonna be virtually every minute you're there - to a couple of others who haven't seen a single act on the Pyramid stage for three years, for them it's almost a matter of pride that they avoid the 'headliners'. Their musical tastes vary just about as much.

Me and Mrs Rex bimble about, following one or another, striking what seems like a pretty good balance between the two. I must admit that I almost regret the amount of time last year I wasted (okay, spent wasted) in front of the main stages, but it felt right at the time so...

Having said all that, I'll be pretty p*ssed off if the mighty Spaghetti Western Orchestra don't show up somewhere!

There's been a few years that I've purposefully gone and watched two or three bands, the rest of the time I've just sat and watched stuff where I just happened to be. And I've seen and found bands new to me that I've grown to love. Love, for example.

But given what they deliver year after year, and given that there's such a huge variety of stuff around the stages, what's there to worry about? .... unless your music tastes are very narrow?

I'd like there to be a couple of acts I'm really excited about and then the rest could be a mixture of anything really.

I did spend far too much time at the pyramid last year, and really enjoyed it, but I want to spend more time in other places, seeing bands and artists who i know less about.

I don't think a pyramid line up could do that to me again - reminiscing my youth with Madness and The Specials (and my errrm 30s with Blur!!!), curiosity for how Lily and Dizzy would stand up live (I had great fun at both), having to see Bruce just because he was here (terrible decision), and being dragged along to Kasabian who I'd seen a dozen times before when I really wanted to check out Florence.

My outstanding Glastonbury moment of last year was wandering into The John Peel on Sunday lunchtime absolutely exhausted and stumbling upon Emmy The Great who I'd vaguely heard of and thought were an indie band! Her album hasn't come out of the deck of my car CD since!

Some of my best Glastonbury memeories are made up of things I never thought I'd see - like Lonnie Donegan on The Acoustic Stage - one of my dad's favourites - calling him and saying "Guess who we just saw at Glastonbury!

It IS about the music - just not necessarily the music you'd expect it to be about.

I'm really not that bothered, I try to pick out 2 or 3 bands I really, really must see and the rest I take as it comes. I try not to go and see a band I have seen before if there's something else on I've not seen but fancy. As a rule I'm not that keen on the main stages, infact I didn't see any of the headline acts last year. Glastonbury has always meant to me to see new stuff and explore, not that I think anyone is wrong who doesn't do this. My 13 year old daughter does all the trawling from stage to stage, she saw absolutely masses of bands this year, I would have probably been the same at that age.

As most of the posters above have said, not really too bothered about seeing anybody, however the following seems to happen to me every year, usually on the Saturday morning I find myself chatting to some random people and they will ask:

"Who have you seen so far?" I look blankly, think for a moment and realise I had only seen Altern8 on the Thursday night, I mean I could not remember what I had been doing on the Friday, nor can I remember now, and I was not totally spannered or anything.

None of this matters, except I find it a bit embarrassing, at a music festival and seem to have forgotten to go and see any bands, d'oh
