I think Led Zeppelin, Rolling Stones and AC/DC will headline so no worries there!

and pulp, chemical brothers and kanye west will headline the other stage and u2 won't do it without being offered like 50 million pounds anyway!

Youre right mate of course. No one I know would acknowledge that term. Do you think it promotes Irish identity around the world through continued use of this phrase? It is not merely geographical.

:):)

To paraphrase Walter Sobchak "Also, Dude, British Isles is not the preferred nomenclature. British and Irish Isles, please."

:P

U2 are rubbish. They used to be good, then they started to believe their own press and disappeared up their own arses. Bono especially.

The other thing is that if you look at their songs, they aren't that good and a lot of the sound is just an overuse of reverb and echo, hence why you don't get much acoustic stuff. There's a lot of show with U2 and not much substance.

I would really like to spend less time at the Pyramid stage this year so U2 headlining would be fine by me. With that gap in the tour I would not be surprised if they will be the Saturday night headliner too. I am actually looking forward to how I can now spend my Saturday differently in Glasto.

Pulp though man that will be f**king excellent. I will definitely be near the front of the Pyramid stage for them Yorkshire bastards.

...I've no problem with the term "British Isles" in a geographical sense (much in the way most British people I know have no problem with the "Irish Sea")...it's simply that, a geographical term. However, U2 are Irish, and probably the biggest band in the world. There's no reason to co-opt them into being "British", they're just Irish, end of....or can we claim we won the world cup in 1966? :):P

I can't see them doing it, I can see the week break being more to do with the fact that they are going from one side of Canada to the opposite side of the United States, rather than them coming back to Europe and playing Glastonbury. They have a similar 6 day "break" between the first two dates.

Don't think its going to happen..

I can't see U2 doing without their 360 stage set etc (which adds to the show) as a one off.... There is no way they can trim their set down to fit on the pyramid

I don't see what incentive they will have flying all around the world for one gig out of synch with the rest of their tour

They were great in Cardiff earlier on this year, they play to 60,000+ a night - they have covered the UK already recently and are coming back to europe at some point.. They have nothing to proove by

doing glasto... Bets are off I think

I'm sure they would blow the place away... especially if they dispensed with all the crap and just turned up and played. However I also doubt it very much. Whatever we might think about Bono and his false altruism they do have a fair smack of excellent tunes. Rid of the w*nkery we have a great band!

I might be wrong here, but I can't recall U2 EVER playing a festival ...so for them and Glastonbury it would be a first. I'm not a fan, but I did see them once and they were really good. They turned up at Live Aid, plugged in and played and were awesome so they don't depend entirely on their big stage show. I can't think of another band with as much artillery in their back catalogue as them.I've been going to festivals for twenty years, gigs for twenty five, seen aimost every big band out there and can't honestly think of any band that would be a bigger coup for the festival or any band with as much potential to turn up and tear the place apart.I personally think it would be awesome and one of those moments you remember for ever

U2 would have no problem flying back to play the show. Also if the Pyramid stage is good enough for Jay Z, Bruce Springsteen, David Bowie and Paul McCartney then its good enough for U2. I doubt theyd want it any other way to be fair

For what it's worth, new North American U2 dates were announced yesterday.

They start back up June 6th here in Anaheim

then, most relevant to this discussion they play:

June 20th - Seattle, WA

June 23rd - Edmonton

June 30th - East Lansing, MI

July 3rd - Toronto

Saw the show last night and it was pretty amazing. The stage rig is very unique.

    • I'd be absolutely amazed if they went without a female headliner.

    • Kinda sounds like we’re heading towards Fender, Fontaines & Harry however I can’t see them not getting a female headliner so think it’ll be Fender or Fontaines and another. They’ll obviously try for Madonna but they’ve also tried before, really depends on whether she’s bothered about it.
    • and we are all set up for 222 and 122😉😊
