Are you talking about Claire? I'm not sure I agree. Anyway, HoC already jumped the shark in episode 1 of series 2, if not before!

No, S1 and S2 were very silly-to-stupid with its Sons of Anarchy moments, but the characters were at least consistent. And Spacey breaking the 4th wall and going "bwhahaha, my evil plan is proceeding as I had foreseen" was at least fun.

In that episode (you know the character and scene I'm talking about) Claire as a character was abandoned and the writers used her as a sock puppet to preach some Right On Theory. She is - or is supposed to be - too hungry a politician to have done that. (Same with Spacey getting all weepy over Mr Wheelchair and the subsequent Justice). Have felt the entire series three "lacks steam". It's not bad, but without Spacey being Machiavellian and "hungry" the show feels a bit like West Wing Series 8.

In other news I enjoyed BOSCH. Formulaic police procedural with impossibly silly character backgrounds ("only one former special forces millionaire screenwriter with a dead hooker for a mother and a professional poker-playing former FBI-profiler for an ex-wife pounds the mean streets of LA keeping us all safe...") but the acting and cinematography held it together.

Any chance of some HOC spoilers lads? Considering it was only released 5 days ago?

FFS

None.

I've been obliquely referencing something made interesting ONLY because it's

out-of-character, not because its in the least bit interesting in and of itself.

I suppose the only spoiler is...

Compare to Frank murdering people, fucking his bodyguard, etc., not a single fucking thing of interest has happened, and with two episodes to go nothing of interest appears on the horizon either.

If that's a "spoiler".

I'd still appreciate spoiler tags please. We havent started it yet. Not pointing fingers in any direction, but just by skimming past posts I have picked up that

clare does something seriously out of character that "jumps the shark" in episode 6

if you dont mind!

I think that's only viberunner's opinion, I didn't think so!

My issue with this series so far is

there's not been nearly enough asides to camera, which was one of the things that made the first two series stand out

Just means this thread is a no go without spoiler tags.

"

without Spacey being Machiavellian and "hungry"

is a spoiler.

Anyway,

I agree with you. Its a bit too straight political at the moment for me. Nothing like the scandal with Zoe etc. Needs more of that.

Ah here....................

How the fuck is someone suppose to know if they can or can not read any of these spoilers?

I have no idea were any of you are up to on HOC so now I will not read any of the spoilers just in case its something I have not seen yet. But then it makes the thread unreadable..............

Go and make another thread where spoilers don't need to be used. But not everyone is going to have watched it in a few days.

With most shows, it'd still be a few weeks until episode 6 is even an option, and people watch a lot more than just House of Cards as well.

Spoiler tags are only fair. If you can't read the thread because of spoiler tags, then that's your problem. Not anybody else's.

All of the popular shows have their own threads, where you are discussing the show. I know to avoid the Saul thread, the walking dead thread, the BrBa thread and the Game Of Thrones thread if I am watching but not up to date. To have to avoid this thread (where the main point of the thread is to discuss shows you recommend IMHO) is a bit daft.

Its been debated to death on here before.

DomDom Im in no way suggesting not using spoilers tags, so you can tone down the smart ass response a tad

What I am saying is whats the point in spoilering HOC spoilers if no one knows if they can read them or not???

Maybe with the likes of HOC people may want to say where they are up to before they write a spoiler.

eg

Watching HOC bla blah and Im up to episode 4.............. *then one can put in their spoiler*

Insert your spoiler here!!!.

And now people can make a more informed decision as to if they can or can not read the spoiler and join the conversation if they wish...........

Having just a bunch of spoilers and no context means only those who have watched the whole series would risk looking at the spoiler..............

That last scene in Fortitude last night is the most vile and disgusting thing I've ever seen.

Is it worth bothering with watching it? I downloaded the first 2 and never bothered due to the lukewarm reviews.

Its patchy but I'm on board now so might as well go with it. I thought the 5th episode "paid off" quite well.

Last night Sky kept airing "extreme violence" warnings through every ad break so the dread was significant.

Genuinely had to turn my head away. Absolutely poxy.

Sorry if anyone thought I spoilt anything. I don't/didn't think I was spoiling anything for anyone.

Anyway, by episode 6 you'll realise the entire thing has been spoilt by being a boring let-down of a season.

It's pretty safe to click that one too IMHO.

Netflix of the two.

Personally I've (well, the ex-) has gone for a Smart TV box. You get the iPlayer / STV Player / 4OD / 5OD catchups and a few channels for free, and the entertainment channel has some really good stuff (Comedy Central, SKY 1/Atlantic, some sports).

Pretty cheap and no contract too.

I was wondering about that one DomDom. Most of the Netflix original stuff seems to be pretty decent. Guessing they're using their knowledge of viewing habits to develop them?

    • Looking like will be bringing a 2-3 month old to Glastonbury next year
    • Healey's first budget with be Oct 28th
    • Been going for 10 years. Wasn't massively keen on the lineup beforehand - although as usual after some research I did start to really look forward to it. We had a brilliant time, felt more like old school Latitude, lovely vibe and we met some nice people. We saw loads but highlights for me -   Lime Garden Florence Road Jalen Ngonda David Byrne - Not a fan of him or TH really but we went out of interest and it was one of those festival shows that you'll never forget. The staging was off the scale. Eleni Drake - Up on BBC Introducing, what a haven that stage is.  Westside Cowboy Getdown Services - Probably highlight of the weekend for me. Absolutely brilliant and have booked tix for them in Bristol next year. Everything Everything - They're my favourite band so I loved it when they were added. A great start to Sunday and met loads of their fans up near the front. Alex James Britpop - We enjoyed it and Gary Stringer FFS! David O'Doherty - Saw him twice, brilliant as usual. Self Esteem - Adore Rebecca and the show was as live affirming as always.   Overall, it was such a brilliant weekend. Beforehand we said that we might give it a miss next year but I'm pretty sure that we'll be sucked right back in!
    • Me too.  Reckon they must have more this year.   Not bad is it - ended up paying same price as this year.  It still represents great value for me.  Well, until I check my bank account the Monday after the weekend.
    • Well mayors have more powers to do that sh*t...but they have to make the numbers add up.
