You're right.

Maybe people should pay for their own doctors and nurses? Every time they get sick, they can pay as they go rather than expecting everyone else to pay for the "NHS".

Maybe rather than having a state funded education system, parents should just all pay per lesson at school. Much better way of doing things don't you think? Those idiots who are too poor to educate their own kids can just print off Wikipedia pages.

You really have a great attitude. If the whole world had your attitude, we wouldn't need a heaven. We'd be already there.

I'm not saying it's perfect but  a lot in the public sector get private health care as part of their employment package.. I don't .. just as a long term employer of a very small business a few years ago working 24/7 having some people who are very left wing wanting equal rights when without people like me wouldn't have a job at all and considering I paid 10.00 PH 9 years ago that to me doesn't sound like an exploitative employer

I'd like to ask where the hell this class war rich vs poor thing has come from?

There are wealthy people in Labour, and people of the upper class - these things have NEVER been a problem.

It's what people choose to do with their money and how they behave that's the problem - it's perfectly possible to be a good wealthy left wing person who treats their employees well, it's perfectly possible to barely have 2p to rub together and be a bonkers right winger who is prejudiced about everyone

This is a distraction to divide people - the actual issue here is ME first, or US first - that's it isn't it? Not more fighting with each other for sure

Yeah, not sure where this has come from, we don't even have Russy on here to stir things up. Have I missed a post where anyone said rich people are baddies?

It's just inequality of opportunity that people have an issue with.

think this quote says it all " if you are not a socialist at 25 you have no heart, if you are not a conservative at 35 you have no brain..( might need a little tweaking !!but it says everything about me... I was once wanting a fair and spread the wealth system..you soon realise that ethos goes nowhere

It's actually a lot more than £30 a month when you take into consideration travel, food, alcohol, and other spends into account. Indeed pretty much everybody in my group for Download spent over £600 taking into account everything spent and that IS a LOT of money to the average punter, and yes you can do it more cheaply, but I think it's fair to suggest you're looking at a minimum of £350 for any major festival in this country

Yes but you do know that people become more right wing as they get older don't you? Todays leftists are tomorrows Tories.

Yeah I understand, kind of realised that after I posted. My point was more that it's unfair to generalise the crowd based on economics. If possible, A lot of people save because they specifically love Glastonbury so much. I just think it's a lazy generalisation to make which doesn't really have much backing.

I had a whole screenful of wealthy/rich for a bit after "It's labour that are intolerant, and it's the rich they won't tolerate" which is nonsense

I was brought up to look after those most in need. That kindness was a virtue and that a community that looks out for one another is a happier, stronger community.

There's the actual Glastonbury spirit

I agree with this it's expensive to go to any big festival This 30.00 a month is fine to put towards a festival and yet some get really naffed off if something else was cut to this amount... please get priorities right .. a festival is lots of fun but certainly not a priority

People deserve to do more than have their heads pressed to the grindstone all their lives. Pay has NOT recovered equally since the crash by some distance, you can't go expecting everyone to just take that and keep calm and carry on and not notice - people aren't that stupid.

The trickle down effect does not exist

I've had to do it, that's just to keep going and plan for my retirement why should it be different for anyone else ? I took on the responsibility to have kids 33 years ago  and I had my first break in 10 years by going to Glastonbury . I'm not complaining.. I gave birth and within 24 hours was back at work, I didn't have a choice I had a small business to run.. and no I didn't have a nanny . If I run a business now I certainly wouldn't employ the younger generation as they want maternity pay, paternity time off... christ I'd be up the amazon with a left handed paddle

What?

You're telling me in your entire life you've never had a single break or holiday until this Glastonbury?

to go with that ridiculous 'I wouldn't employ the young because they want maternity pay' comment.. I increasingly think/hope that account is a troll. Bloody hell.

That was so cartoon villain i couldn't really parse it properly without spluttering a bit - so many things wrong I kept starting paragraphs then finding it too ridiculous even for me

Apart from Glastonbury the last time I went on holiday was in 2006 , I went to Mexico , it was a delayed honeymoon  ( second marriage I got married in 2004 )  I did go away with my daughter for a long weekend in 2012  and that is the gods honest truth . I dedicated everything to work and planning for my retirement . I'm 53 now, and retired but not wealthy as I chose to and always have been into animals rescue . When I got back on the Monday lunchtime from Glastonbury my husband went back to work as he took Friday off to take over looking after the animals for me and literally within 2 hours was back to full on duty and dealing with work related problems which I have a small invested interest in . So not your wealthy Daily Mail stereotype tory voter as I'm sure you are not a   stereotype labour voter

I can't have a day off again this year as `I have rescues planned throughout this year until at least Xmas .. yes my choice but it takes every penny to do this so you may think I'm some cold hearted tory capitalist but maybe talk to me first and not assume

Retired at 53, that's quite nice, alright for some. I'm an accountant and will be working well into my 60s

You sound very dedicated - but I'm curious - why do you think everyone else should do that?

And why if you've had to slave like that so hard are you not more bothered that you've been worked like that while others have coasted it on VAST salaries with relatively little effort? There's no reason it should have been like that, and inequality is far lower in other countries

are you self employed or do you work for a firm of accountants ? I chose to work for myself  and yes semi retired to be honest but I'm not sure if I would do it again .. the sacrifice was little OTT ... but I didn't have  a partner then so it was always going to be hard with young children as well

good point and I suppose if truthful hadn't really worried what others were probably getting away  with. maybe I should have but to be honest I had to concentrate on the job in hand to get through each day... I am still the same now... don't mis understand me when I question your beliefs and I do see what equality you are striving for but for me rather than wait for that to happen it's easier to get up and carry on,

We're 'told' the maximum tax rate before it starts being counterproductive is 49%. But I don't believe it for one second. Even in the unlikely event a few billionaires did up their sticks, we'd still be in a far better position as a country than we are at the moment.

Interesting. So even by that logic we could raise it from where it is now and it would be productive.

Instead of whinging about how little benefit you get try doing what I did and find work it's not that hard, admittedly you might have to do the low paid jobs but from them you can build..far too many want everyone to pay for them.. no solution apart from work and working is what gets results simples ..if I can do it as a single female with 2 small children then anyone can

That simply isn't true. There are two things that got you where you are today. And this will be hard to hear. Because one of them is hard work. And the other is luck. The right circumstances aligned for you to be able to do everything you did, millions of tiny little things went the right way for you along the way and it wasn't down to hard work alone. Some of it was just dumb luck. And some big things too. You went right back to work after having a kid? Then you're lucky both you and the child were healthy enough that this was a viable option. Imagine your kid wasn't we'll. Imagine your kid needed more care and attention than you could offer and keep a full time job. And imagine someone comes along and says to you "well you just need to work harder, it's simple". Do you understand how heartless that sounds?
