Although now I've gone down that road of analysis I have no idea how to relate it back to albums. I think it might mean you're Kim. I don't really know.

I'm pushing the envelope of music critique here, this is proper inventive shit you're seeing unfold before you.

Threads like this make me realise how rubbish I am at keeping up with what's happening out there. I really must find an up to date version of reading Melody maker and listening to John Peel.

Anyway, mainly due to recommendations on this and other recent threads, and that new fangled Spotify thing, I can confirm that I rather like the following, in no particular order -

David Bowie - BlackStar
Leonard Cohen - You want it darker
King Gizzard - Nonagon Infinity
Billie Marten - Writing of Blues & Yellows
Billy Bragg & Joe Henry - Shine a light

I really have tried with Bon Iver, but sorry, if it's all the same, I'll stick with his first album.

I see Bey bagged the Guardian's No. 1 AOTY, FWIW.

I like Kitty Empire, but her review is almost an apologetic justification at times.

A moron in general? Or for having a 'pop' at Bey's Lemonade?

I don't think I've read her Lemonade review, but I mainly know her from her live reviews and I've always thought they were total crap. Used to pinch copies of The Observer Music Monthly when I was a 13 year old nerd with a paper round, have always held the opinion that she reviews the context of the music rather than the music itself. Whenever I see anything by her now it's like "yep, still a moron" so I know 13 y/o Lawn didn't unfairly develop an ingrained vendetta against her for some historical slight against Britney (which was my modus operandi back then).

Have you been on the fucking bingo dust lately, Lawn?

Nice list mind. You'd fit right in on the RadioThread...if AMSP wasn't at 3bloody5. You could at least have put at 9.

Edit: And no Leonard Cohen. Sackable offence.

I artificially bumped Tom York and the lads up from 40, I didn't want to incur the wrath of their sect. Not listened to Lenny's one yet, not listened to Bowie, not listened to King Gizz, not listened to J Cole, not listened to Little Mix, not listened to Matey Three, am I even qualified to make a list?

"...incur the wrath of their sect"

Hehe. Nice. :-)

And what a wan, angsty, bedwetting sect we are!

As I state every year in these threads, I don't really get to listen to that many new albums these days.

This year

I have been mostly listening to:...

(Edit: I tried to post a photo of Jessie from The Fast Show here, but it didn't show. Damn).

Muse and Radiohead (for catch up headlining reasons).

Album of the year has to be Bowie's Blackstar for me though. That title track. There is just so much going on in that. Also he sounds more Bowie than ever on some of the tracks. Almost like he's doing a pastiche of himself. I think it's now my new favourite Bowie album. Move aside Hunky Dory. Can't believe I just typed that sentence.
