Thursday night, 1992. A lazer from the old milk stall at the meeting point piercing the low-hanging clouds/smoke, mostly.

Once we were pitched and suitably refreshed we followed the lazer, expecting to find rave nirvana rather than a nice pint of milk. Still, didn't need to look far for the madness. All the market area and up to the Greenfields and Underworld's Experimental Sound Field (where Strummerville is nowadays, I believe) was a seething, bacchanalian orgy of chemical insanity.

Yes, the tender memories stretching back to to our first times. For me, it started with the sun in the CV fields on a Wednesday, sharing a stranger's bourbon, chatting with an angel in the SE fields, unknown films, fish curry, top of the Park looking down (thanks Jeffie), my cousin, my mate, the trainline. Cheers Eavii.

1987 hitched from Hull, got a lift in an old ambulance, put up a canvas tent in front of the pyramid and realised it did not have a groundsheet- this did not matter as we ended up sleeping in the ' World Music' tent which had straw on the floor. Having 50p Hotknives as we worked our way up to Carhenge in the travellers field, dogs on strings- a horse at one stage, milk and bread truck in the morning. We had no money so we worked for our food in a Soul Food Cafe but had an amazing time.

1984 when I was a volunteer at CND. I'd only been doing that for a couple of months when I was asked if I wanted to help out at Glastonbury counting money. I'd never seen anything like it before. I'd been to one-day events in London but nothing like this! Did lots of work but wandered around what felt like a huge site (tiny compared to now!), spent a lot of time in the Cabaret Tent watching comedy. Saw The Smiths and others on the Pyramid. Met so many people and had a fantastic time. I was hooked and have never looked back!

My first Glastonbury was last year. Weather was spot on, acts were also equally as good and the atmosphere was the greatest thing about the place. My favourite part had to be the Wednesday and Thursday, especially the latter. The rain (although I wouldn't wish for 5 days of it) seemed to add something and was just such a laugh trying to wade from Silver Hayes to The Park! Taking a tumble outside of the Silent Disco in the park was not my finest moment to say the least...

So many to choose from. First was in 2007 which was a little overwhelming due to the sheer size and the torrential rain, but I've been every year since and it just gets better. The bands, the view from the ribbon tower, the completely random things you see that just make total sense at Glastonbury. Ultimately, though, it has to be about the people and the spirit of the crowd. Over the years both myself and friends have lost phones/cameras/wallets/handbags and without exception these have not just been returned, but the person who found them, a total stranger, went completely out of their way at often silly hours to make sure that they got back to their rightful owner. I don't mean to do any disservice to any other festivals but that wouldn't happen in a lot of places, and it says so much about the warmness and generosity of the place that this is the norm, not the exception.
