The Kooks are a typical indie shity pop band with guitars... I'd never group a band like The Kooks with The Black Keys! I'd definitely say they were just simply Rock/BluesRock/Alternative but I don't think it's a huge deal, unless it's a topic of conversation like it is now, I dont think I'd ever criticise someone for labelling them as Indie?

It's exactly the same as emo. When i was younger it was used to describe people like Jimmy Eat World and Dashboard Confessional and no-one cared, now it just seems to be used as a term to throw at any young American pop punk band to try and put them down

I've always been puzzled by genres,i can remember when grunge came out and i loved all the bands but soundgarden, nirvana, alice in chains and pearl jam didnt sound anything like each other but they were all labelled grunge.

same thing with nu-metal,the top nu-metal bands were korn, papa roach, limp bizkit and linkin park. who on earth lumped those four bands together in the same genre??

The Used were another bizarre one, to me they were a stright up rock band, but everyone called them emo(!!??!)
