Deftones

Saw the thread for the Biff and wanted to contribute with my most anticipated set of the weekend. Chino and the lads into Charli will be an incredible few hours of music. Looking at their setlists from their US arena tour and wondering what their setlist will look like for the G.

1. Be Quiet and Drive (Far Away)

2. My Own Summer (Shove It)

3. Diamond Eyes

4. Swerve City

5. Feiticeira

6. Digital Bath

7. Rocket Skates

8. Sextape

9. Around the Fur

10. Headup

11. Change (In the House of Flies)

12. Genesis

13. Minerva

14. Bored

15. 7 Words

Praying Headup stays in the setlist, that song would go mental. Would love to see some other cuts like Bloody Cape, Engine No. 9, Cherry Waves, Mascara or Hexagram. Either way, they'll absolutely knock it out the park and I hope this keeps a tradition of these 90s/00s heavier bands making appearances at the festival after the fallow!

f**k, that list gave me goosebumps.

im right looking forward to it, and particularly rocking out while surrounded by gum chewing, disinterested Charli XCX types 😄 (i have no idea about the fanbase of Charli to be honest with you, but everyones falling overthemselves to tell you how big the crowd will be for her)

Check their festival setlists. They really do not do a greatest hits type deal. Just setting expectations

They’ll definitely be doing a greatest hits type set much like the one posted above. They’ve done the same basic setlist this whole tour so a shortened version of it would be hit after hit.

I hope you like Charli, as no one's going to be able to exit the field after Deftones against the tidal wave of humanity heading to worship at the altar of Charli. You'll probably still be there on Sunday morning. Wearing a Brat shirt.

Reporting in. Deftones is the biggy of the weekend for me as far as bands are concerned. I've never been much of an 'at the front' guy but I'd like to do it once and feel like this is the one (after being medium far back, surrounded by pre-Sheran crust for Biffy on the Pyramid in 2017 and having the energy slowly sucked out of me). A few questions: 1.) Do we think there'll be much cross over with Ezra Collective crowd or can I shimmy forward during the chanegover? 2.) Is there a barrier to get in front of at Other? 3.) Will the Charli fanbase being trying to take the position I want 2.5 full hours before she even starts? 4.) Who else is bringing all their former teen angst back to the boil for one last jumpy-uppy-downy hurrah?

I'm in two minds about Deftones. Around the Fur is one of my all-time favourite albums (Top 10 for sure)... but for me none of their other albums come remotely close (aside from a handful of tracks on Adrenaline). I haven't even listened to anything post-2006.

But I've never seen them live and I imagine they'll be playing a decent amount of their early stuff.

I haven't seen Deftones live since the White Pony era, but Chino's vocals back then could very generously be described as hit and miss...

I’m assuming he must have got better since then. I read somewhere that he’s quit drinking  so hopefully that’s had an impact.
I haven’t heard much since White Pony but I’m still looking forward to this most. I’ll be there as soon as Gary Numan finishes. Is it too much to ask for them to play Passenger?

1) I hope it’ll be easy to get to the front after Ezra Collective, it’ll probably be fine, people need to eat or go to the loo even if they are watching both.
2) Yes

3) The only thing I know about her I’ve read here so I can’t comment!

4) Me, but hopefully not for the last ever jump around hurrah!

I really want to catch at least some of Deftones, but I'm worried the Charli crowd descending will a) completely destroy any semblance of a vibe and/or b) make getting away from Other a complete nightmare. Where do we reckon is the smartest point to watch to navigate a bearable exit if I decide to throw in the towel?

hell of a good question. Want to be close enough to feel immersed, but also able to nip away if we all get Charli XCX'ed. This is the definition of crowd crust i suppose, i will be one of those people

I can imagine the XCX crowd fighting their way back out of the pit once Deftones start. They arent build for that.

Regardless, as long as you are a man of average build you can fight your way in and out of any crowd. Hold you hands out forward, palms together this signals your intention and creates a wedge in your gap, then push through with intent and strong shoulders and constantly say "Excuse me! Thank you! Excuse me! Thank you!".

I went down the front for Chvches who were on before someone popular. When they finished a very different crowd started moving in pretty quickly.
It was ok leaving along the front edge of the arena until the crowd thinned out. Then straight out of the back of the field and along the railway line to avoid the usual pinch points at the entrance of the field.

Just going by this alone, how can you seriously be in two minds about seeing them - what are the clashing with for you?

I'm not their biggest fan, despite liking quite a few of their tracks, so can't understand too much about what put you off so much from White Pony onward but in know their early-to-mid-00 albums didn't land as well. But might be worth giving the Diamond Eyes album a listen ahead of the festival at least.

Because they're a band that peaked 28 years ago! I know that's not a problem for people who like Neil Young or whatever, but I'm more of a current music person.

TBH there aren't really any major clashes for me at that time on the Saturday though, so it'll probably be Deftones time.

Fair enough, I guess that depends a bit on whether the peak is more in reference to their writing or live performances (or both!). And actually, I didn't really consider how many times you may have seen them live already. I just thought if I had a band with a top 10 album for me playing Glastonbury and no major clashes, it would be a no-brainer.

Well I've decided I'm seeing them. I'm having a big Friday night and it makes sense to take it easy and remain on the west of the site all day on Saturday. So I'll be seeing two consecutive acts each at Woodsies, then the Park, then the Other, then Lonely Hearts Club.

I think you have got it pretty much spot on with the setlist. Deftones are a band that knows how to play to the audience. I remember Chino downing a bottle of Yorkshire beer at Leeds Festival to keep the crowd happy!

They will play a greatest hits for this gig.
