When is Glastonbury going to start taking Latin music seriously?

How so?  I mean, it might not be be fully represented on main stages but they have an entire stage for it, right?

Listened to a Festival Sounds podcast the other day with the GL organiser as the guest and it was a really interesting listen, especially in terms of who they try to get and where they all come from.

Meaning why Glasto Latino's focus on Cuban salsa big bands rather than anything a bit more actually relevant in most Latin music spheres?

I don't disagree, but it probably makes more sense than putting on a bunch of - similarly unknown - reggaeton acts.

As for the wider festival, it's there if you look for it.  Not to the same extent it would be in the US obviously e.g. they're not going to book Bad Bunny to headline, but I wouldn't say there's any policy against it - more just a cost benefit in terms of bringing over big acts versus their likely name recognition amongst the UK punters.

My annual I’m going to attempt this promise but get as far as the edge of the dance floor and fail .

I was the same up until I was dragged in a few years back - it ended up being a lot of fun and now we go back every Thursday.

Mind you, the mojito van massively helps....

Ah that context makes sense, if that's what you meant @yosoyyoberdi?  Presumably we're back to the Bad Bunny conversations and world / US popularity vs UK popularity.  Would the "relevant" acts be happy with the likely lower billing they'd get at a UK festival? Harder to sell if they're going to be playing to smaller crowds or on smaller stages?

Spitballing here. I have no idea.

There are Latin DJs on the line-up most years - Rosa Pistola played in Platform 23 last year IIRC.

Brazilian music has also been pretty well-represented over the years with the likes of Airto Moreira, Sergio Mendes, Os Mutantes, Gilberto Gil, etc being booked on WH (although covid did for the latter)

We don't speak of the Bully's Special Prize festival

Each stage will have a different graphic designer budget.

Bigger stages like the The Park or Woodsies can afford to pay for a Shoreditch design studio - typically a team of 5 to 6 people - who spend up to 9 months designing the small online graphic that announces the acts.

Unfortunately the smaller stages like Glasto Latino can only afford to employ just one or two graphic designers full time - and sometimes not even ones that went to decent art schools.

The company I used to work for would have done a far better job in about a day for a fraction of the cost.

People spend far too much on designers

Never, cause they seemingly dont want people to have a good time and they want to gatekeep people from seeing music in a language thats pretty huge elsewhere. Much like british cuisine being bland, latin cuisine has thing thing called flavor. Glasto aint about flavor.

There's an Indian restaurant on every UK high street - and I've sat with Americans and watched them literally start crying when attempting to eat a mild curry.

We've less Latino food, music or language here cos half our country didn't literally used to be part of Mexico.

Did somebody say Mojito?

Very much enjoyed their cocktails in the past.  Not sure if they still do them the same way, but because they had a known selection and premixed it meant they were much quicker deal with a queue of thirsty drinkers than the places that mix to order - and for my money they were much nicer than the place with the cage on top.

    • Tonight was a disgrace. There wasn't *that* much rain, and it wasn’t *that* windy. A festival of this size should be able to withstand some adverse weather without it bringing the whole circus to a standstill. And if it is true that part of a speaker on the Revolut stage fell…   As for the communication - announcing Massive Attack were playing at 12:30 and then nothing for over an hour while people waited in the rain. It’s laughable it really is.   If I said I’ll never come back again I’d be lying. The shambles of Barcelona 2022 and the disgrace of Madrid 2023 didn’t stop me, so this probably won’t either.   This festival gets so much wrong, but it is always saved by having such killer line-ups. It’s just a shame it treats the fans/customers/consumers like animals. Compare it to somewhere like Glastonbury and it’s worlds apart.
    • Yeah, I admit that a small part of me felt relieved when they announced that MA are canceled.. But on the positive side- got to see Florence Road afterall, and they were great
    • Glad I could take the €3 bus to Playa Catalunya! Hope y'all warm and dry up.
