I don't think I've ever considered Neil Young divisive. That's generational, not divisive in the way The 1975 are, I'd argue.

2027 could happen but it's so long off it won't have nearly as much excitement of having him on the way up/ at his likely peak like he is this year.

 

Either: 

1. They just completely missed the boat somehow and didn't realise his appeal and what would be his perfect timing of his 3rd album release etc. (even though it's been known to anyone interested he was planning to release his 3rd album beginning of 2025) 

2. They wanted him but had already commitment to 1975 couple of years somehow (maybe covid year perhaps) and also wanted at least one female headliner

3) They want to be absolutely sure he's ditched that aural travesty that is Spice from the set list before he tops the Pyramid.

Spice is gone for now. Howdon Aldi Death Queue on the other hand is still there.

 

Aware the smaller European shows means Fender can effectively keep it slimline, but fourteen songs and eighty-five minutes feels pretty poor.

Saturday is a proper festival tune, even if I don't think it stands too well next to his others on show.

 

He seems to have settled on Hypersonic Missiles, Will We Talk? and The Borders as his de-facto holds from the first record, and I cannot really argue against that.

 

Know you can't lug a piano everywhere, but The Dying Light is born to be a live showstopper. Should stick around.

It is just that - presumably the announcement was mentioned and they played some pop music over it so that their listeners understood what they were on about.

That's a fair point. We have some new blood, and so forth.

 

But more in a general sense, I'd have assumed Neil Young was more "shrug" rather than "no" among people who weren't necessarily fans. The 1975 seem to inspire some very strong opinions.

Issue i have with neil young is he's a dinosaur (and one i'm not fussed by)

 

Macca and Elton are fine - legendary acts in a league of their own with a few others, Neil Young is clearly a step below.

 

His BST hasn't sold out straight away as his only UK show in a few years. I am sure it will sell out but a glasto headliner should be selling that out straight away.

 

Tons of other acts have sold out their days, heck even Sabrina Carpenter is now doing her second day which is selling well.

my subjective opinion is that this is my favourite line-up announcement in years, there is tons of stuff that i want to see on there and even the headliners are all things i would watch. and that's before all the dance stages and smaller acts and such. i'm hyped

Me neither, at all. I knew everything he played pretty much word for word and thought it was magnificent. I also thought the pacing was fine, it’s just there were complaints from those (Online and within my group) who didn’t know his new stuff.

Neil is a headliner, no question about it.  I don't think he's going to have the biggest crowd of the weekend though.  

That saturday night is where most of the artists I want to see seem to landing.  I think the line up is great overall, plenty of stuff for everyone.  But a potential clash of Charlie, Neil and Beth Gibbons hurts a bit for my tastes

He's more of a 'shrug' kind of act to lots of people under the age of maybe 50? That makes him divisive as a headliner. If we're having 2 new headliners and one more established one, it's a disappointment to many that it's someone that most people would struggle to name 3 songs of.

 

The 1975 are divisive in the way that a lot of people hate them. I don't know anyone who hates Neil Young, mostly because I don't know many people who know who Neil Young is.

I don’t know anything about the 1975 but it would reverse the injustice of the last minute Reading swap a few years back.

To be honest, since there's no basement jaxx so far I've been listening to the 1975 as a potential headliner for me. Their music is fab festival music. It will sound great on the pyramid.

Stuck on a Glasto 25 playlist and haven't skipped a song yet. Volunteering but have no must sees , have seen/familiar with plenty acts, good chance to go with the flow hopefully 🙂
