There touring all the time maybe they could find time to grace the fields..

They tend to tour on strict cycles (every 2/3 years, usually on the back of an album) and don't seem to deviate from that. Apparently they've been close at least once, I remember them being strongly linked in 2009, but for some reason (probably money), both parties have never been able to make it happen. 

 

2027 could be a contender (if they are touring), but I've been saying there's a chance for years. Maybe that ship has sailed. 

 

As a fan, I think they'd be fantastic (waving my arms from side-to-side to the outro of Never Let Me Down Again at the Pyramid is a Glastonbury dream I visualise often). For the casuals, alongside Gahan's stage presence, they've probably got enough reasonably well-known songs in the set to maintain 100 minutes of interest. Hugely underrated in this country in my opinion but as I say, I'm a fan. With all due respect to Neil Young, if he can headline (for a second time), Depeche Mode absolutely can. And it would be Pyramid headliner or nothing.

 

I'd love it to happen but I'm not so confident that it will.

Pretty sure Depeche Mode have said they won't be on tour in 2025 tbf. I know we're still going around in circles wondering who it is will be making the trip to Worthy Farm, but I suspect it's not gonna be them.

I love Depeche I really do and would love to hear their throbbing basslines across the Pyramid field but I don't think it'll ever happen.

 

For me they're in the same small group of bands like Iron Maiden although very different. Amazing live, huge, British, sell out around the world every year easily but Glasto headliners, no chance.

They’re one of these acts that probably aren’t as big in the UK as they used to be, but have enough fans to sell out an arena run, or a stadium. Not sure how many younger Glasto goers would know more than a couple of songs, if that. Probably should have done the Pyramid 20+ years ago, when they still had some relevancy

I think if Glasto hadn't been on a fallow year in 2006, they'd have been a really solid shout - Playing the Angel did decent in the charts, as did lead single Precious, they had a big old crowd at Wireless Festival (back in it's pre-pop/rap days ofc) and Violator/SOFAD/Ultra material was still reatively recent.

 

I do ponder if the moment has passed, even if in all likelihood they'd do a job if asked. Though I can't recall if they were that positively received at Isle of Wight Festival when they did that on the Sprit Tour.

 

Saying that, Just Can't Get Enough's continued presence as a football fan soundtrack means it might still have some recognition with that crowd.

classic answer from somebody who didnt notice they put an album out every 4 years like clockwork and then toured for a year and that was it, no exceptions. Covid messed up the cycle and then ya know, a core member dying. This album cycle mightve been their last chance cause theyre pretty much done now.

I read an interview somewhere that DM wanted similar acts playing in front of them, in order to ensure a good crowd. Which couldn't be guaranteed unlike at other festivals in 2009, so they passed.

 

DM at Glasto would be great but could easily have a weak audience... it's not like they would deviate from their regular set just because it's Glasto.

I saw them at Lollapalooza Paris and they seemed to be appreciated there. Reviews at the time said good but struggled to translate to the younger parts of the crowd.

 

Admittedly following Liam Gallagher is a bold choice given he tends to be praised for crowd work.

Exactly this - they do tend to go for the same sets all around and whether that translates to a Glastonbury environment is a different matter.

If The Cure can headline in 2019, and may do one more time before they finish then there is no reason DM can't. 

 

The only blocker I can see is the fee. DM I think view it that they don't need to do Glasto.

Pretty sure that Erasure has never been asked and have been vocal about been overlooked. Maybe they just don't like Vince Clarke and hold a grudge that even his old bands will not play. I wonder if Yazoo ever played?

Perhaps if Vince Clarke replaced Andy Bell with someone with a tuneless comedy voice, like Jason Williamson off of Sleaford Mods, they too would be invited back every other year

Pretty sure i seen that Gahan recently said neither he or Gore had even thought about doing new DM stuff. So I'd imagine even if they were affordable, they wouldn't be available for the foreseeable.

like i said, its pretty much done now. I think if they do anything then its a slight chance at a farewell gig. But thats not gonna happen in the uk. Either Germany or L.A. since those are the 2 places that theyre huge.
