Huh when I was looking into going over there, I asked on Reddit if Marlay Park was any good and the locals said it was. But I will say the problem I had and what ultimately turned me off going there is that it just looked so far out of the way of everything else in Dublin.

I will say it was for Green Day's last tour as Wembley had sold out, and I chose Manchester instead. Although I found getting out of Old Trafford cricket ground a ballache. I'm already dreading to think the scenario for the Royal Highland Centre - my brother and I want to come to Edinburgh for the comedy festival and found Florence & The Machine are there, so plan was to see her to make up for not seeing their arena tour earlier this month, but I've heard a lot of bad things about it as a venue.

I think I just hate them park gigs generally to be honest, takes an age to get to a bar, find the loos etc. at least with stadiums they tend to be a little better equipped (well some are) and like you say the distance outside the city centre is always a massive pain at the end of the gig. And most of the time they have the dreaded golden circle.

Old Trafford cricket ground is horrendous as well aye😂. I usually just accept the 1hr walk back to the city centre. I have said I'm never going to a gig again there though, the crap sound made the Foo Fighters sound distinctively average.

I've not been to the RHC, I've always thought that looks a nightmare for getting back from though, it's about 10 miles🫣

Yeah Finsbury Park in North London is too quiet and dreadful to exit. And that's still in London about ten minutes walk from a big train station. I'm guessing in other cities, the travel situation isn't much better. Hyde Park is similar - not loud enough and annoying to exit.

I didn't mind Old Trafford for Green Day tbf, though oddly I felt it got quieter as it went on, which is a different sensation. Or maybe my ears were just falling off.

Tbf I then saw Foos at the Millennium Stadium in Cardiff and the sound system there was good when my friends and I went into a different position. In the first place we stood for the first few songs, all I could hear was vocals and drums. So... Less fun.

Rumours on tiktok today and yesterday that Fontaines album and tour will commence at the end of 2026.  If that's true, would easily put them on the summer festival circuit

All as mentioned 👀

If you're playing a stadium (which they are), or stadiums plural, in this country, then you're in the Glastonbury mix.

Old Trafford Cricket Ground is hands down the worst venue I have ever been to. I swore to never go again after the last time, which was Green Day in 2024 one week after I had just seen Foos there. Both times the shows were fantastic in spite of the venue. Just everything about that place is terrible.

I mean it's easy for me to say this given I live down south, but yeah. I enjoyed the Green Day show there but it's not a venue I'd necessarily come back too.

100% -   I did a list once and ive been to 25ish different live music venues in Manchester (that includes some temporary ones).  It is by far the worst -   I also swore id never go back   But then a Radiohead gig got rearanged to be there -   At least i know its still terrible

What would you stick at the top for those of us non-Mancunians? I'd heard a lot of bad reviews of Victoria Warehouse.

Thats probably second bottom -  (which is annoying for me as I live right next to it).

Currently my favourite is New Century Hall -  Only been once to Factory International once so put it 2nd -  i suspect on another visit that will be top as it really was very good -   and the Yes Pink Room 3rd for me -   If i can find my list might start a new thread on it as may of interest to some

Maybe a thread showing out everyone's favourite venues is worth a go and this can be the place to start it up.

Victoria Warehouse is crap, worst one for me (I've admittedly only been to one gig at the cricket ground though).

There's tons of good venues - the one's mentioned above all great. Albert Hall is delightful, Ritz & Apollo good enough. Loads of smaller venues as well.

The problem with the Apollo, Ritz and Coop, but to name a few, is the prices in there. An absolute disgrace for alcohol tbh

I don't really drink alcohol but big venue pricing is well known to be ridiculous. I went to the O2 in London for Wolf Alice and £20 for a pizza that looked profoundly mediocre plus another £5 for a Pepsi Max? Pass.

I've heard Manchester Apollo is good from people who've seen other bands there.

As far as my own reps go, only gig I currently have booked is at the Birmingham O2 Academy. I'll have to feedback I guess. Had some good and some less good sounds there on prior visits.

I didn't find Victoria Warehouse that bad tbh. Just a pain to get to and no pubs or anything in the area.

Yeah I remember staying in a hotel in Salford when seeing Bloc Party at the Castlefield Bowl and it passed the VW on the way to where I was going. Was surprised at how little there seemed to be around it. Unless the idea is to invoke old school warehouse raves by being out of the way or something.

... I say that as someone who was too young in the 90s to experience anything like that.

Your not the only one ive heard say nothing in the area -  Maybe just hard to find but there are 20-30 restaurants bars etc walking distance from the venue -  I suspect most people are more familiar with Central Machester than the quays areas, ( i live there so know it well)

check these places next time just across the water - 10 mins walk from venue -   and where most of the pre gig crowds end up for food/drink

Or even the Bee orchard bar which is right outside -  but a bit hidden - its quite small though so gets absolutely rammed when there is a gig on.

as i can walk it in 10 mins cant comment on the transport.   (there is a tram stop right outside but i suspect that gets rammed, as well as the number 30 bus) both take you to manc city center)

We ended up in Kargo a few weeks ago. Some decent food in there!

no one thinking Fred Again? Considering he was apparently approached last year?

I don't think there's been any credible suggestion he was approached.

The "rumour" that he had been came from that weird meandering post on here that was written to pretend to be inside info, but ultimately turned out to be largely bullshit.

Was it not largely reported (or rumoured) that he was supposed to headline but he declined (think burnout was mentioned), so the 1975 got the call?

I'd have to do some digging, but I'm sure that was it.

The 1975 never struck me as a first choice booking, though I've nothing to back up that they replaced Fred, really. I just recall it doing the rounds, somewhere. Looking back over that thread page above, I do remember that Wembley 2025 conversation I had - it came from good sources.

I like some of Fred's stuff, but I haven't really kept up with his releases; more just bits of live stuff he's up to.

I can imagine him getting the call to do it one year.

Hard to put my mind back to that time - but I seem to recall The 1975 were talking about some kind of hiatus and having a break then all of a sudden Glastonbury -     It might make sense that they were not the first choice.
