Worth pointing out that this is not a politically neutral group and its positions are often controversial within the Jewish community (on both sides of the argument).

This. They are heavily politically motivated.

I’m fairly neutral in this discussion and watching with almost philosophical interest.  Personally I feel like its ordinary people who have suffered because of two sets of ideologies.  Israel ≠ Netenyahu and Palestine ≠ Hamas. I Can’t ignore the suffering of Gazans nor the sight of festival goers being massacred or abducted.

But I’m sorry, I’ve seen this argument come up a couple of times and it’s nonsense false equivalence.  The Smiths didn’t say this in an environment of anger toward DJ’s, or following a couple of incidences of DJ’s being hanged.  Nor did they direct anger toward DJ’s as part of their persona.  Then of course there’s whether or not the instruction can reasonably be taken seriously or not.  Whilst most people are not going to act on the statements made by Kneecap, it is feasible someone could take it seriously, in part because of the latent anger.

They also said “Up the Hamas”, who orchestrated a massacre at a music festival, for that reason alone I would not object if GFL cancelled their booking.

Shane MacGowan  said he regretted not joining the IRA, should he have been cancelled too?

So do you believe that kneecap wanted their audience to go off and kill their MPs?

Regarding the angry environment. I’ve been to a few angry Prodigy gigs. Do you think they wanted to start fires?

Some people don’t see Hamas as a terrorist organisation.

Thanks, we're really trying to let as much as possible through. As @Alvoram said though, credit to the community. I think we've hidden less than a dozen posts and that's great for a highly emotive topic such as this.

________

Not in response to itschris:

From now on, all posts that are sarcastic will remain hidden, as will any post with a swear word. Normally we're fine with sarcastic callbacks to other users' comments, and the filter keeping off the full explicit word, but this is a more inflammatory topic than most conversations about festivals/music.

And yes we're aware we were allowing them earlier. We're trying to calm things down without having to lock the thread or take any action other than hidden posts.

Just a reminder on the sarcasm point . It’s hard for other users and sometimes mods to see sarcasm in users posts and because of potential for misunderstanding at points we won’t be approving those posts . Thanks

1) No - but that’s not my point.  Some might.

2) No. but did they say “go set alight to someone in this specific group”?

3)  well I dunno what to say about that.  Massacring civilians at a music festival feels a bit terroristy to me!

Cancelled? He said that when he was well and truly over. If he had said it in early 80s maybe would have been different.

I thought he wrote a tribute to a notorious IRA leader in the 90s....maybe I'm wrong....

    • My understanding is that the queues returning back to the UK will be much worse (up to two hours) but the queue entering Lisbon isn’t so bad. That’s just from reading a few forum posts about it though so take it with a pinch of salt!

    • World Cup 2026: What is happening with ticket prices? - BBC Sport   Sounds like Infantino has been learning from his buddy if he's running around claiming its all sold out while quietly dumping tickets below face on assorted secondary websites.
    • Mac DeMarco also cancelled
    • I'm British so it very much would apply for me.   I mean, it's a moot point as I don't have tickets so will not be in town for this, but I've heard reports of lengthy queues and given I remember Lisbon Airport having a long queue at arrivals even pre-EES when I went in 2023, I seem to guess it might be quite the wait, depending on flight paths.   Certainly, the worst I've had pre-EES was a 45 minute wait for a stamp at Valencia Airport in Spain, where 4 flights to non-EU destinations in quick succession were placed one after the other. So I can't say I'm enthusiastic about what's in store. Or you know. Maybe I'm just overthinking it.
