Looks like download have teased Green Day with pushing their early bird tickets. Green fireworks in the picture and something about wake me in June...

I think several people thought they were going for download rather than glasto. Looks like it's fairly nailed on now.

It’s more where they belong

My Theory is that after Elton John and the we will not get out the chairs no matter how big a crowd issues.

the Bookers pick acts that they think the (I will not listen to any music recorded after 2008 and the Picnic Blanket brigade) will hate to try and push them onto other stages - for that reason I do not think acts like Sterophonics will even be considered for sub Headliner anymore - This is just a theory

I sincerely hope you’re right

This was not an endorsement, just the kind of regressive evening at the Pyramid that a big chunk of the audience would cream their jeans for. We live in a world where Rod Stewart has headlined and no one got shot for the decision.

Yeah,  I get it + don't disagree,  it looks like where they will be for a start, so must be where they belong.

Traditionally they would seem a bit light for download but they seem willing to go for a poppier headliner nowadays.

I still think they mainstream enough that they could play any of the major festivals really. Just not glasto next year it would seem.

The thing is, the more of those types of people you’ve categorised there (😂) that they encourage to move away from the pyramid pre headliner, the more of a stampede they create when they return for a big headline act, especially on Sunday.

Still think, if it is Fred again... and Olivia Rodrigo for the Friday and Saturday, you want someone of the Billy Joel mould - cross-generational appeal, singalongs for days - to close out Sunday.

They're obviously not doing it, and it would spark a lot of hand-wringing, but Oasis probably would fit the bill too. If Stevie Wonder is back on the market, give him a call too.

was just going to say someone like stevie wonder before I finished reading your post.  The optics are right for three different headliners with both current acts and a legendary pro.

I think there may be an element of truth to that.

I was working on the Cockmill bar. We got swamped during Gypsy Kings on Sunday, but once they were done it cleared out quickly. Don’t know how it worked elsewhere, but I believe we got a lot of the chair and Picnic blanket brigade who were then straight out the gate and home after.

Snow Patrol is exactly the kind of slot that in my head halfway down the Pyramid is far to big for them.   But in reality will be very popular, they are a top booking for the "I will not listen to any music that came out after 2008" crowd who always show up at Glastonbury in numbers

they still sell out arenas in the uk and europe. Not too big of a slot. Look st Keane this year. And they are of the same era and are just as much a draw.

I'm hoping they play a few other UK shows next summer too. Rumours of playing Eden sessions.

Bang on the money. Still think we should be keeping powder dry on some of the up-and-comers - but then, arguably, a headline slot possibly ringfences them for the future. I don't view Florence and the Machine as being a bigger draw now than they were when they stepped up in 2015, but equally, them taking that slot at short notice does mean we could announce them for next year and point to it as a safe pair of hands. (Had they not taken 2015 off, there's a chance it would have been Biffy Clyro, perhaps, and that would have likely ringfenced them in the way doing Download did for them in 2017.)

It's going to look a lot better to have people like Olivia Rodrigo, Dave, Fred again..., Sam Fender and The 1975 already as bill-toppers in case they go off a commercial cliff next. You never quite know.

But then again, you may get situations like Mumford and Sons where, with the best will in the world, Glastonbury won't go back knocking again. So much to weigh up.

Next year? No. But it was more a general sense of the artists they could if they chose to go down those routes, and said artists were happy to jump at the gig.

Never say never, but that combined with the fallow year does feel like it places him into the Close But No Cigar group along with folk like The 1975 and Biffy Clyro.

A lot depends if absence makes the heart grow fonder. To highlight a shout there, think The 1975 are still in contention - might be off the road now, but the profile was as big as it's ever been when they wrapped up the run earlier this year.

2026 being a fallow may hurt them, but there's a lot in play.

They'll be having to fight Chappell Roan for a headline spot in 2027 - and she'll win.

Why Billy Joel just to appease the “I came to Glastonbury by mistake” crew

Not sure it would be to appease them. It would be to offer someone who's got that massive appeal that extends across a four-quadrant demographic and pack enough singalongs in to leave those in the field with a high.

Those rogue brackets get everywhere.

He's very much a man for the non-record buying public though. #7 with a new record is soft, which tells you where the commercial power is driven from instead.

Physicals for Fred’s album aren’t out until November. It could easy reach a new peak then, and probably would’ve been a #1 if combined with his opening streaming numbers.

    • Generally shorter too, I imagine. 🙂
    • Will that work for arenas with seats? People will have their tickets on their phones and needs to find their seat.
    • Excellent new release from overpass today - well worth checking out.
    • Having lived here for 2 and a half years now my take is that security, safety and organisation are just not a priority in Spain. It's not even exclusive to festivals. It's a part of everything.   Simple example. I'm Irish and in Ireland if you assemble a construction site you have to adhere to a lot of regulations about cordoning off the site so nobody can enter and get injured. Here, you're walking down the foot path and suddenly without any warning you're in a construction site. If not, you'll suddenly find yourself directed onto the road to get around the construction.   Life is more laid back here in general. Pros and cons.
