moogster
I went to Pyramid headliners far too often because of FOMO and not my taste and honestly I never enjoyed it so trust your instincts. This year it is not happening, sorry Elton.
efcfanwirral
I've regretted not seeing bigger acts over the years (Metallica, The Who, Rolling Stones, Stevie Wonder), especially for seeing the alternatives loads of times, and enjoyed those I was on the fence for but did see (Adele, The Killers)

I went to Kanye due to fomo, still my biggest Glastonbury regret. For balance, one of my biggest regrets is choosing Suzanne Vega over Beyoncé. I adore Suzanne Vega, she’s the reason I first picked up the guitar. But Beyoncé was an event, and I’ll never go to one of her gigs. I know I missed out there. churlie100
I'm not planning on seeing Elton even though there's no-one else I particularly want to see. I just refuse to believe watching a show in a crowd that big could be fun. We had a similar experience trying to see Dua Lipa with the entirety of Primavera last year. Saw the whole show but we were so far away that at the end we all agreed it felt like we didn't even actually watch her, just a colourful dot a few miles away. Going to have a wander around the site instead and see if anything takes our fancy. Will make sure to catch a couple of Elton songs just so we have something to say to stop people being weirdly judge-y, but not planning to stick around for long. dcsessions
I went to major Lazer and then chase and status instead of rolling stones. Absolutely no regrets. As we walked past the pyramid field it was clearly absolutely heaving and just didn't look that much fun! However I will be going to Elton. He's an iconic artist and even as a passing/armchair fan I think it will be a great show.
Fred Zepplin
I’m still on the fence. Will have a pram with 2 kids so if I go I will be right at the back and even then if I’m not feeling it and want to leave it will hard if not impossible. QOTSA will be great and will have loads of space so the kids can have a run around. Think I just decided QOTSA

I haven't even watched his set back on iPlayer and I'm not bothered at all This year I'd quite like to see QOTSA, but I was there for 2011 which I don't think will be topped, and I'll probably enjoy the sing along at Elton. I don't think anyone will ever regret going and seeing what they want Vs a hyped up artist (Also I didn't mean to quote but have no idea how to remove it on mobile)
Little Andy
Original Poster here! Seems like I've got a mix of response, reflecting why I asked the question in the first place. Overall though I still think I'm gonna see Alt-J. I'm too excited by that! Plus hopefully I can catch the end of Elton anyway, just to give myself a taste of what could have been!

I was the same, planned on going to rolling stones but stopped for pizza and ended up watching The Sheepdogs in Williams Green (RIP 🪦) instead. Was a great night, ended up catching the last couple songs of the stones up near the medic bit and the crowd looked horrendous

JP1994
This is the biggest headache I have of the whole weekend. I do really like Elton John but I absolutely love QOTSA, one of my favourite bands both on record and I’ve seen live (seen twice - Reading ‘14 and Finsbury ‘18) and know I’ll likely get another opportunity, but maybe never again at the best place in the world which is Glastonbury. I was over the moon when we got Elton as a headliner but as soon as QOTSA were officially announced I was split. Do I go with “I was there” for Elton or just go QOTSA, live in the moment and watch them smash it out of park and love every second of it? It’s going to come down to on the day 😂
Robofish
I really want to see Elton. I really want to see War On Drugs. I'd be delighted to see QOTSA. Scenario A: I watch WOD. Run to Pyramid. Realise I cannot get in anywhere close. Get food, get beer, watch QOTSA live and Elton on telly on Monday. Scenario B: Watch WOD, run to Pyramid, pretend I'm with "that flag over there" and get a decent spot just in time for Kiki Dee. See QOTSA at some point. A is more likely really. Little Andy
Original Poster here, giving an update : I opted to see Alt-J, and had the best time ever. Highlight of the festival, no regrets. I also sprinted to catch the last few songs of Elton on the edge of the crowd, which in hindsight wasn't really worth it. So to conclude, always see the act you like! p.s Sorry for the late update, I was doing my hair.
catavento
I ended up accidentally watching a lot of Elton from the hill (I was originally heading to Phoenix) but from speaking to others after and watching iPlayer it seems as if the non-Elton acts all smashed it and appreciated the up for it crowds they did get, so hopefully no regrets from anybody? Certainly Phoenix looks like it was great, crowd totally on board and the band playing the tunes rather than the entirety of their new record or whatever. Joey01
The clashes were annoying as I'd have seen all of Alt-J, Phoenix or QOTSA normally and they would've been some of the best acts I'd have seen over the weekend, but I can (and have seen) most of them before, whereas I knew I'd never see Elton again and he'd raise his game, which he did. Although disappointed with his guests and also by that horrible Dua Lipa moment, for him to sing Rocketman in full again. If he was to do that, why didn't he get a hologram of Tupac and do Ghetto Ghospel? Would've been a far more memorable moment.

I was torn between Phoenix and Elton.. ended up leaving Caroline Polachek early to get a spot at Elton.. managed to get a decent view, but three songs in I changed my mind and decided to leg it to Phoenix - which turned out to be the best decision as Phoenix were absolutely phenomenal.. hadn’t seen them before but it turned out they are amazing live, great light show, great tunes and an enigmatic front man who was so appreciative of the small but super enthusiastic crowd. Everyone was 100% going for it and it felt like a proper Glastonbury moment.
rwhitehouse13
I looked at the crowd going to the Pyramid and thought, screw this and went to Woodsies instead, one of the best decisions I made as Phoenix were absolutely brilliant. Not seen them before and so glad I finished my Glastonbury with them and a crowd who were probably the most up for it I had seen all weekend (challenged only by the crowd for Viagra Boys). JamieKThomas
I was at the back for Elton and decided to leave after 15 minutes. Sound was awful and it was rammed. Ended up walking down to The Other Stage to watch some of QOTSA and then on to West Holts to catch Rudimental. It was honestly the best decision I made all weekend - being able to explore the site at night time while it was completely dead was amazing. Managed to stand directly under Arcadia as well which was a great experience. My partner stayed for Elton and she loved it, but I was glad I made the decision to explore elsewhere. Me and my boys decided to not bother with Elton because from the hordes of people moving to Pyramid from all directions when we came out of Bootleg Beatles, it was obvious that it'd be a shitshow and jam-packed right up to the top of the field, which would be no fun for my 8-year-old and my (short...) 14-year-old. We went to the circus and outside circus instead and watched some great shows, then the older son toddled off on his own for a ramble while me and my little boy sat on edge of Greenpeace field and ate some grub and had a drink while enjoying the general ambience and the dance music/techno or whatever it was that was blaring there. I still think we made the right choice, it was a good night out.

Decided I’d get more out of QOTSA live than Elton and make a night of it one day this week watching him on TV. Ecstatic with my decision, managed to get on the barrier and the field with full of hard core fans. Easily my set of the weekend.

Elton was great, but from what I’ve seen and heard I wish I’d gone to QOTSA. They absolutely f***ing killled it. I’m annoyed because I was stood so far back for Elton and I couldn’t see that much, and I could’ve probably had as much fun watching it back on TV. I would’ve loved every second of that QOTSA gig!
