I wouldn't class Stormzy as rap either to be honest.

Stormzy is urban pop. Post Malone is country pop. Disclosure is dance pop.

I'd class Dave as rap, Kendrick Lamar is rap. People that like rap music don't listen to Stormzy.

you called disclosure rap an hour ago and now they are dance pop? lol

Stormzy has strayed a bit but his earlier stuff is certainly rap, similar for Post Malone

The idea that people who like rap music don't listen to stormzy is laughable - 'rap' is a pretty broad term, as is rnb for instance but there is clear crossover, just look at the undercard of his APE day. Music can still be rap without swearing, talking about guns and sex etc

Say that to someone’s who’s just heard Sunflowers and Circles

He does some rap songs. He’s far from ‘clearly a rapper’

technicalities really coming out here

Stormzy and Post Malone are clearly rap / rnb / hip hop bookings

Stormzy is a rapper.

Post Malone is not a rapper.

Far more genre bending going on these days than their used to be, so pigeon holing people is dumb/ tough

Bar a few numbers most of even Post Malone’s debut is about as rappy as Imagine Dragons rappier efforts

I don’t think they’re gonna be branded rap anytime soon

Also- try convincing anyone there’s a single rap song on his new LP…

Both Stormzy and Post Malone are rappers ffs.

Someone else who’s not bothered to listen to Post’s his new LP it seems

He’s a musical performer who has some rappy songs in his back catalogue

I have listened to to (it’s crap, btw). He’s is known for being a rapper. Lil Uzi vert brought out a rock album this year, he’s still known as a rapper.

Exactly, it’s all a bit reductionalist in this day and age isn’t it?

Post Malone a “rapper” who makes an 18 song LP without a single bit of rapping in it

At what point do you not become a rapper?

Post Malone has never referred to himself as a rapper, he has never put music out as a rapper. The guy sings.

The only people that would call him a rapper are metal/rock heads that think any autotuned urban musician wearing jewellery is a rapper.

The only people who'd call Stormzy a rapper are your white dads trying to connect with their kids by listening to Radio 1, before trying to shake somebodies fist bump.

Exactly. White boy rock Reductionalism at its worst

People on /rap

Let’s argue - Post Malone is not a rapper

“is this an argument?”

”there is nothing to argue”

”he isn’t”

”We don’t need to argue, this isn’t news”

Reddit is nothing but neckbeards that are there to discuss the theory of rap, in all honesty, but the point definitely stands.

Next people will say Lil Peep and MGK were rappers.

They're just urban pop music for the xanax popping trust fund kids.

When they book Post Malone he is booked to get the rap crowd in, not the rock crowd

A. Even if true that doesn’t necessarily make him primarily a “rapper”

B. If you think the majority of a Post Malone live audience are the ‘rap crowd’ you’re hugely mistaken

never change EFestivals

Zach de la Rocha is primarily a rapper

Of course the majority of Post Malone’s crowd at Reading are kids who are into rap music.

Hahhaha, good crowbarring of the the "at Reading" there.

At reading yes because the majoirty of the crowd there are kids who like rap music

When Blink play the majoirty of the audience will be kids who like rap music...

He'd have headlined V multiple times by now if it still existed

He's basically the ultimate V headliner, credible but also played at Starbucks

Seriously listen to his most played songs on Spotify, its classic coffee shop fayre and about as far away from traditional Rap music as you can get

We’re talking exclusively about Reading.

On the “Rock Crowd” vs “Rap crowd”

He obviously appeals hugely to both (and a much larger mainstream audience. Its why he’s so popular

I concede that Reading can appease the perceived “rap crowd” by booking him.

It’s why he’s highly tipped to headline 3 times in 5 years because his appeal is so wide, he ticks pretty much all the boxes for the whole reading demographic, not just the teens
