This is why I asked whether he would, and not dismissed him. I'm certain his music is all dance with featured artists, so struggle to understand how that works as a headliner, just a guy up top pressing play on his laptop?

Have you ever seen footage of him live? He’s the furthest thing away from a ‘press play’ DJ. The guy is supremely talented. Of course, you wouldn’t know that. He doesn’t make music for people in their late 20s/early 30s whose names begin with ‘C’ and post on festival forums.

neither Em, Blink or Paramore are weak.

Not weak perhaps but Paramore is clearly the weakest if you're talking Blink, Eminiem, Paramore

What's the under 25s take on them? From what I've seen their concerts seem to be full of oldies now? Given the reliance on the headliners to ship tickets in this day and age would they bring in many for the weekend?

I guess in combo with Blink they would be a good bet. With Eminem too, its all bit boomer though isn't it? Sza/ Postie seems like a better option if available.

If not who, other than Fred Again could be bought in as MSWs to appease the young?

I agree that Fred Again... on before Paramore on the smaller of the main stages would be the best bet. Blink and and Eminem aren't going to need people too special and it'll be quite clear where the money has gone. It's one of thise where 10 years ago, this 3 would have be tops for me....not that it doesn't interest me now. I've got 3 potential events bank holiday weekend but 1 I know i wouldn't venture solo.

It wouldnt be enough to get me back but to be fair little would other than a return to the pre-2021 setup (or O-Rod)

Fred Again's set at Parklife this year was brilliant! I'd love to see him at R&L.

I'd also like to see Nines, but the acts on Xtra always seem to be lacking compared to when you see them on their own.

In the same way Disclosure have done twice, the acts at Creamfields do every year, how Fred Skrillex and Four Tet did at Coachella etc

DJs headlining festivals isn't a new thing

I just meant before the weakest one, i wasn't calling anyone weak - just Eminem is the strong one

Reckon the top 6 is a realistic ask, below that though, no

Said it before but youre not gonna get 4 headliners that could have/did headline 10+ years ago, especially when Blink + Paramore and Kasabian + Eminem have all headlined the same year before.

Cant see that top 6 happening personally, cannot even see Paramore being there at all in honesty. I think If Em and Blink are right then it will be a pop name like SZA

Because as its been said by Melvin, this festival moves with the times and that top 6 looks dated if I'm honest although I can 100% see Blink being there and rightfully so

I fully understand the concept of DJs headlining at festivals, but those festivals that are Dance oriented. People go to Creamfields to listen to dance music and rave.

That has never been what R&L has been about, acts come on stage and put on a performance with stage presence. I look at Fred Agains Glastobury performance and its a guy stood behind some decks up top, pre-recorded music plays, and a video in the background rolls with the songs being sung.

Thats the kind of act that would have been bottled off the stage 20 years ago.

I can watch music videos at home. I can listen to pre-recorded music at home without paying £400 plus the other £400 spending money, without having to look at some guy sitting behind a computer nodding his head.

It does look very dated

It seems nostalgia is selling well at the moment though and it’s the market that seems to have given up the festival

I think 3 old skool names topping the bill would be too much though

Can they rebrand Boomer Fest please? Six legacy headliners, raise the age restriction to 25+, John Smiths behind the bar. Give the people (me) what they want!
