This kill the Bill protest is more like a massive outdoor nightclub  🙂

Sounds amazing. Is that the London one or is there another somewhere else?

These always have good videos from protests recently- usually just reporting things as they see them with video footage so a good way to follow whats happening. All being added to that thread as the day goes on

This Greensill should be a bigger story than it is...(as is the Johnson Acuri thing)...but I guess it is accepted that it's all fucking corrupt but pubs are open soon so who cares...

Greens hill was covering a hole that bad government created.

So you support travelers just doing a as they please.

Labour and its supporters are just a joke these days. Ite no wonder they can't get into power

Antisocial behaviour isn’t cool. I’m sure some travelling folk have done some of that down the years, i’m sure some non travelling folk have done some of that down the years.

Antisocial behaviour is the problem, not a whole community of people.

A weekend a year we all go and camp on someone else’s property. Every festival there is what folks would consider antisocial behaviour - boozing, drugs, certainly leaving your junk behind. Are all glastonbury attendees antisocial?

I honestly think policy around antisocial behaviour can learn a lot from Glastonbury.

’Love the farm, leave no trace’ - a feeling like you are not only a consumer, but a stakeholder, feeling ownership too, so you have that respect and that will to behave more prosocially.

If a traveller or anybody else behaves antisocially, as though they dont respect the community, or public property, then what is the difference, why don’t they feel as though they are stakeholders? I’d guess that being constantly marginalised and discriminated against probably doesn’t help

If that is true - I am gobsmacked if it is - then Labour have serious issues beyond what I thought they had.

That is a hell of a lot of voters who went over to Brexit Party and then over to the Tories.  That is some achievement.  Add in a pandemic and 150,000 brits dead.

Not sure you can lay it all at Starmers door either.  The whole party is a none event.  I can only name one shadow minister.

The poll only spoke to 500 people and it was done by phone so is likely to swing towards older people, I'd like to see how they were weighting the responses. The margin of error on a poll that small is huge and it was commissioned by the CWU who are very anti-Starmer.

So there's a huge pile of coveats to be added on but if it's remotely near true then Labour have huge problems. I really don't know what the correct response to a terrible Starmer performance in May is? If Starmer continues on having established himself as a loser things might get worse but a leadership contest reinforces the idea that all Labour want to do is argue amongst ourselves and there isn't an obvious improvement in terms of leader waiting in the wings. The best thing would probably be for Starmer to accept he was done but to stay in post whilst allowing some other names to establish themselves a bit more prominently before the upcoming leadership contest further down the line like Michael Howard did for Cameron.

Hopefully it is just rubbish polling, constituency polling is hard.

more union jacks should do it.

Actually, nobody knows what labour is for....so...Starmer needs to set this out...he also really needs to be able to get out there and meet people, make speechs to actual audiences etc. A lot of people probably still don't know who he is...whereas everyone knows boris.

Well 7% of the Hartlepool 500 hadn't heard of him. I've said before that he's in a tough position because of the pandemic but if Labour do badly in May the first impression many may get of him is he's that new Labour leader who is doing even worse than Corbyn, that could be disastrous in the long run.

I agree that he should be trying to but forward his vision for the country a bit more but whenever he does do a speech along those lines it tends to get mostly ignored. (It also tends to be very light on any concrete policy.)

yeah...I guess if labour loses Hartlepool and does badly elsewhere the calls for Starmer to go will get louder and louder.

I think labour are fucked.

They were always going to be closer to the tories than labour after going kipper and the tories delivered their brexit while labour tried to reach their votes. And who knows how labour would have done with covid. And there would have been no perfect from anyone so deads are forgivablewwithin the idea of no perfect

The shadow cabinet have been good at being anonymous.

Sack Starmer.

Worth reading whole thread.

I still think the way forward was to do what the Dems did in the US- keep some of the radical (and popular) policies, but have a centrist figure like Starmer present them and do the usual flag waving nonsense that plays well. Instead went for 'destroy the left', bin all policies, have nothing to say. Until the left and centrists make peace, labour are screwed (probably screwed even if they do).

From what I’ve read, many in the shadow cabinet have been muzzled with Starmer’s team trying to micromanage messaging.

But the blame doesn’t rest solely on Starmers shoulders but with the whole stinking labour to win/progress/new labour faction who staged the at first sneaky (starmers election), then suddenly very unsneaky and aggressive seizure of party and policy and are now reaping the consequences. New labour’s corporate politics was intensely unpopular in the end.

Between the trajectory of the polling and the abysmal state of finances (thanks to unnecessary settling of lawsuits and mass exodus of membership). Labour is on the fast track to oblivion. I’ll make a prediction that if Starmer is still in charge at the next election and stays on this course policy wise, they will be lucky to get in the mid 20 %s nationally.

Don't tell the shit thread...but I agree with this too....but may well be unpopular with public if framed as it's either covid certicates or continued social distancing.

.Starmer hasn't made hardly any announcements on policies...he may actually end up somewhere between Corbyn and Milliband economically...but with loads of socially conservative stuff thrown in there...to try and win over voters like those in Hartlepool, but so far he's failing if that poll is right.

    • Some are definitely already there with that and with another round of inflation looking like it's on the way, it certainly locks that in. And I say that as someone who also isn't willing to break the £100 marker.
    • A lot of people have said this online but does the Marvel world need new cities to play with? New York seems to be a target of all the villains to the point where you wonder why anyone in that world still lives there. Much as you can accuse me of overthinking it I guess haha.    I do agree that The Void is a compellingly different villain in many respects given the superpower is trapping people in their most traumatic memories. Shame in some respects the film came out in the post-Endgame funk Marvel seems stuck in and a lot of people missed out on it.    Speaking of, I rewatched Infinity War the other day. First time I think I've seen it since seeing it in the cinema on its opening day. Holds up pretty well imo - I have issues sometimes with ensemble casts and jumping between 4/5 storylines but it felt this one got the balance right and also properly explored Thanos. So it was good.
    • I didn't think I'd ever watched a Coben adaptation or read one of the original books, though turns out I did - I watched one called The Stranger back in 2020. Clearly didn't stick long in my memory as until researching it, I didn't know that was one of his. Queens Gambit or Black Mirror, it was not.    But clearly it's popular tripe in some respect if Netflix is going yes to everything he has to offer and are apparently about to start trying his most popular individual character, as seen below:   https://www.theguardian.com/tv-and-radio/2026/jul/30/how-harlan-coben-became-the-king-of-potboiler-tv   Plus hey. Sometimes people get a kick from watching something and deriding it as crap. Don't let this internet rando stop you haha
