I am but apart from a match in Rome last year I haven’t been to a game in years, they still do tickets by post?

For home fans most teams now have a season ticket card which is hovered against a reader to gain access to the stadium, or by mobile ticket.

However for non-member sales and also fans who go to away games paper tickets are still used.

I'm talking as an Arsenal fan, I know further down the divisions it becomes more basic and more back towards traditional methods.

No paper tickets at Anfield! All NFC technology and long, long queues.

I've been to Anfield twice as an away fan this season and had a paper ticket both times. 🙂

No paper tickets for home fans then. 😂 Away fans don't have the trauma of those queues, just the horrible restricted view seats under the lip of Anfield Road!

I always make sure my tickets aren't restricted view, and the new stand should be done within 18 months so that will be the end of that horrible overhang!

All e-ticketing for Manchester city. Might be different for away fans but it was on your phone and very little queuing.

Glastonbury used QR codes on a tag on the EPO Wristbands in 2019. They were checked by stewards with handheld scanners at various entry points. I've seen similar systems used at other festivals with NFC wireless chip based systems that serve the same function. They query a database and return info including name associates with the tag, access level, and last entry / exit scan. There's little reason that they couldn't use the same system for initial entry. It's much easier from a technology and bandwith standpoint if they just require identification at the gate to match the name on the ticket. Reduces network traffic and complexity immensely.
