Agree! It was a daft idea from the start. Early on apple and Google announced they'd work together on a tracing app, why on earth did this shitshow of a government think they could do better than an apple/Google collaboration. Oh what a surprise say 'oh british bla blah blah, best in the world!' hand over tens of millions of pounds to tory friends and Donors who just so happen to own the company, get nothing in return.

You’re right it did get swiftly passed over, which is why I mentioned the East of England, because on the slide that breaks it down regionally they said it was a downward trend everywhere apart from there.

The govs app doesn’t work on iPhones therefore it’s Apples fault. Even though they’ve had issues with Apples closed ecosystem for years. 
 

They also said there’s parts of the Apples app that don’t work so are helping Apple with those parts even though they couldn’t get their own one to work.

Fucking hell. This isn't even one of those where it can't be proven to be untrue, it just....blatantly a ridiculous lie. 

They'll have known this would be the end result all along of course - that money paid to the original app "company" is now essentially a "black ops" budget for off-books social media manipulation campaigns. Probably the one that convinces the nation the NHS isn't fit for purpose and chlorinated chicken is completely safe....  

How come we have to wait til September for this app? So they can keep the pretense and lies up that it's not their fault? Apple's app is already working isn't it?

I only think South Korea are using their own. No other country have one, that’s not the point though. The point is that the government have wasted weeks When other countries have had the same issues and come to the conclusion of using Apple or Google’s apps. Our Gov didn’t because they always think they know best. Apple/Google haven’t released their own app yet, Apple have WWDC next week so I suggest you watch that for more information which will likely come then. 
 

I don’t believe for a second that Apple are desperate for the U.K. Government to come along and save the day.

That's been one of the daftest things about the whole covid 19 thing - the near complete absence of international cooperation and planning, feels very much like its everyone for themselves. 

A few vaccine searches are starting to pool resources (eg Oxford has teamed up with researchers in Brazil as it makes more sense to test the vaccine there as the infection rates are currently higher), but can't help but feel if some research companies had done basic stuff like shared control groups they could have sped up some of the research.

Yeah.  Seems weird that only South Korea have an app but no one else has managed it.  Maybe its not all it's cracked up to be? Which would be odd seeing as the success of controlling the virus there has been largely attributed to the app.  Baffles me why they would not share it if its effective as it benefits everyone to sort this situation out asap.  Same goes for vaccines as you say.
