Some of them will contain something which identifies the culprits (maybe their ticket was left behind or an address). Just ban them from coming to the festival in future.

More than that, you'd need to be able to enforce the prevention of multiple registrations, which would likely be a manual process, costing tons of time and money. When that time and money can just be used to pay people to collect the tents.

I'm going to be honest, I left my trolley and air beds.

however, I deflated the air beds, folded them up and put them in the recycling area of the litter if anyone was interested. The trolley was also left by the recycling with bungees for anyone interested too. No idea if anyone helped themselves though.

There's also pure physical exhaustion, or the extra mud making it harder to carry stuff to the point of being impossible for some. Especially those taking public transport don't have the option of taking multiple trips. I'm always loathe to call people lazy when there may be actual physical factors too.

That said, no excuse for not taking the thing down and putting it in the bag at least.

Sorry, but there is that opportunity for multiple trips for those on public transport. My daughter and husband packed up most of their stuff and walked it over to the lock up near to gate A on Sunday afternoon. They then retrieved it on Monday morning as they left the site with their packed up tent and remaining stuff.

Possibly what people need is foresight, and to actually give up a little bit of their five days of freedom to be responsible to the farm.

If I were Micheal and Emily, I would pack it in... and I am sure the thought has crossed their mind if it wasn't for the money that would no longer go to charity if they didn't do the festival.  

Not all of the festival fields are left like the video but its really shame that any have to be in this day and age.  I often think of the care that someone takes to get all the stuff on site... and then to not give a damn and leave it all makes me so mad.

I actually told a kiddie that he had dropped something after he was mixing up his vodka and lemonade after discarding the can.  He look generally embarrassed as i called him out on it.

If you're leaving before the lock ups close at midday. And can get from the lock up to coach okay.

What about it makes you mad? It doesn't make Michael and Emily mad. It's a shame because we all have to pay for the clean up but it's not a huge issue. This year, collecting the tents will be a fraction of the work of collecting stuff stuff dropped around the festival and trampled into the mud. That's surely a better place to direct your ire?

Fair comment, I didn't realise that they closed the Lock Ups at midday on the Monday, however sorry it does not excuse leaving your stuff lying around where you camped. At least clear it up and get it to the refuse / recycle areas.

Don't get me started on the rubbish left lying around. Camping on Big Ground, you get to see the state that the Pyramid field is in each morning ... and then see the fantastic job the litter pickers do. I imagine that other areas are equally bad.

Yup - the thing is people get really angry about the left tents because they're such a visible indication of people being messy - but as I say, it's a solved problem, the festival just pays people to clean up.

Respecting the wishes of Michael Eavis is all well and good but remember Michael is on record as saying he wishes we would all drink less and not take drugs, yet people are perfectly happy to ignore those desires because it doesn't fit the way they want to experience the festival.

Or things like flares, which are banned, and spew hot ash all over the farmland - but people here will defend them because they look nice. Or the way the festival asked Campervan travelers not to turn up until 6pm this year and a load of people here decided to go anyway and pretend they'd not seen it.

There's a point at which, unless it's something that genuinely effects the chance of the festival happening again - like peeing on the ground (which can't be fixed by throwing money at it) - that I just feel it's better to live and let live. I don't like that people leave so much stuff behind but I also don't like seeing people snorting coke in front of me then acting like dickheads, but it's their festival too.

I need a new tend as well and have seen 8/9 of the one i want on the pics that have been posted.

As said here - the problem can't be solved with any draconian measures. Education is the way forward.

But, I do think that there are probably enough people who would volunteer to take these tents and equipment to recycle in exchange for a ticket for the next festival.

Exactly my thoughts mate. I'm pretty up-to-speed with my camping gear and there's a fortune to be made there that would easily cover the cost of the festival and pay for a good bit of next years as well.

It would appear that a lot of Glastonbury campers actually have more money than sense.

That's disgraceful. There is no excuse for it at all! Our tent was wet and bit muddy but it got packed into black bags to take home to be washed down and packed away into its carrier at a later point. Its that simple. Some of those tents are worth a lot of money. Disgusting amount of waste!

They could let locals/public in the next day and tell them to help themselves! I'm sure there are quite a few entrepreneurial types who would take a van load of tents and chairs and sell them on ebay for a tidy profit. I would definitely go down and grab a few if I was local

My outer tent zip broke within 5 minutes of putting it up.

The next day my fly cover zip broke. And on the final day the only zip keeping the tent together broke. 

It was a struggle camping in that all weekend and leaving it for fear that it would piss down and we'd come back to a small pond, but I still packed everything up and took my tent home despite it being broken.

We also couldn't get it back in the bag so we shoved it all in an ikea bag and struggled taking it back with us - but we did it - even in the muddy/wet state it was in.

I have left tents before in the past and felt horrible afterwards so I now make sure I take tents home.

it's really frustrating watching that video. I'm currently trying to find a decent tent to buy for Latitude festival and don't want to pay hundreds. Grr.

I know! That's what is annoying me the most. I'm looking at buying a tent for Latitude like £300 upwards and people just leave their tents.

£80 of camping gear? I spend that much on food, and that much again on drinks. People can afford it in the same way they don't bring all their own food in.

This kind of thing will also push the ticket price higher and higher. It's £228 now, pretty sure it was £205 about three years ago.

Extra resources needed for the mud, clear-up afterwards etc will mean the ticket price will be something around £235 next year I'd imagine.

terrible news.

I saw a first this year: tents left in the disabled field. Usually from speaking to the stewards thats the cleanest of them all after Monday. On the way out this year they said to us that people started leaving on Sunday morning as kids had had enough of the glud (my new word for Glastonbury mud - you only get that sort of mud at Glasto!) and that he knew of at least 3 tents that were going to be left by noon Sunday.

 

Shocking. If I were the Eavises I wouldn't stand for it at all.
