100%ish security check in queue gate d

Post Bataclan and Pulse I think there was an assumption that checks would step up. It's not a reaction to anything that's actually happening right now.

Anybody know what our rights actually are when it comes to security? How far can security actually go in their searches?

I think Stop and Search was replaced by the Protection of Freedoms Act 2012.

But basically - you don't have to agree to a search and they don't have to let you in to the festival.

Pretty much none, if they're wanting to search you fully before entering, they will. Or you won't be entering

With the clampdown on "no longer" legal highs etc I guess they are just being extra vigilant. It's not great by any means yes it slows things down but if it means we're that little bit safer from anything you see in the news "tin foil hat" so be it.

But as I said maybe they are coming down a little harder on illegal substances this year.

It does the opposite of worry me - it makes me feel better. They are looking out for us and will probably ignore stuff for personal use.

Absolutely. The odd rogue to one side, security are doing a job to ensure all our lives are better for five days.

Surely won't be able to continue this all day? What with the traffic and delays already in full effect keeping up searches like this will only postpone things more

But as has been said, unless your stash is sitting right on the other side of your bag zip you should be fine imo

Come on people wisen up.  The searches are nothing to do with drugs, they are looking for anything that could potentially be used for a terrorist attack.  Guns, explosives etc.  This is going on at major events all over the country already.  I get searched and scanned every day going into work at a sporting venue and have done for the past 9 months.

Also, for the people saying this is worrying or that something is going down, where have you been for the past few years?  I'd be more worried if they weren't searching everyone.  The searches aren't in response to a particular threat other than the general threat to any event with a large number of people in one place.

Ran out of up votes already today or would have given his one..agree fully was throughly searched twice at Wembley on Sunday, it's gonna happen they really want to keep us safe, if folks really want a good festival and enjoy it to the full then surely it's for the best, if you've got something to hide then perhaps you should consider not taking it...?

Will now duck the down votes but given the bigger picture I'd rather be searched and safe than feel that nothing is being done.

Exactly. On another note was shocked by how terrible the security at Euro 2016 was. Wandered in with a reasonable sized bag which just had the outsides felt, could have been anything. So many flares sneaked in. Last World Cup had metal detectors. Good that Glasto is being proactive with this, everyone just needs to keep their drugs hidden sensibly.

Are you saying that they are letting the car parking guys onto the actual festival site now to put up their tents? At 3.30am! If so, that really IS unusual!

no, they let us move from the queue on the Hill into the zig zag area at gate D just after midnight. to get into the zig zag barrier every person was having their ticket checked, bags and trolleys checked and every other person was patted down and asked if they had any weapons.

gates opened just after 7 which was a relief after the 4 hours of rain in the queue

Just come through Gate A,  security was very through to the point I saw them getting people to take their phone cases off,  full bag searches and body tap downs,  luckily I got through without any bother,  just be smart and hide anything for personal use well!

    • Pretty sure some will be more than that.
    • It's a shame for lots of bands cancelling tours due to poor ticket sales but I'm one of the culprits as I'll wait now closer to the time as theres always a chance of a seat filler or Twickets for half the price. If the bands charged a reasonable price to start with then they'll sell out regardless. Look at Paul Heaton, £39+fees tickets for arenas where some bands are charing £150+fees for the same arena. Prices for drinks in those places is a joke too so many pick and choose.
    • Might just wait it out for the summer shows that got mentioned tbh
    • Good on him i think, though it depends on whether he really does love the music (like Steve Davis) or is just moving into it as a bizarre career option (Gok Wan, from the ten mins i observed from the side of a field once, stood there with no idea whats going on)
    • Better Man, Black maybe. I guess was the same for Metaliica.   They do have a history of bringing on some big guests, for example Pete Townsend and play Who numbers. My gut is they would prob pull it off but they'd get a section of crown leave after a bit. I don't see it happen even though I'd love it.    Other Stage would be immense.   I seem to remember Emily Eavis watching at a Wembley arena night and if it was regular gig with more random unknown fan favourite songs she saw she prob thought not suitable for Pyramid.
