BMTH looking good for the secret set now.

They’re teasing something. A BMTH fan page on Instagram posted a picture of a billboard poster with their logo on saying ‘Do you want to start a cult with me?’ and a number to call.

I called the number and you get through to a recorded message that’s like a self-help company called ‘MANTRA’ that says you’re  in a queue (you aren’t really, it’s part of the pre-recorded message) and it gives you advice that’s clearly a piss take. You eventually get through to an operator who asks your name but gets cut off and there’s a load of commission before a kind of demonic voice says MANTRA really slowly and you get a jumbled up clip of what I can only assume is a new track that is only about 20 seconds but it’s quite clearly Oli singing. The line then goes dead.

I couldn’t really tell much from the song but the beginning sounds very synth wavey. Most importantly, THERE ARE GUITARS. You can clearly hear a guitar rhythm.

It wouldn’t surprise me if the same ‘Do you want to start a cult with me?’ posters are around the R&L sites come the festival.

The instagram page is @daily_bmth if anyone wants to check it out as I don’t know how to post pictures on here.

Very cool (and slightly cheeky) to see a massive band like BMTH take obvious inspiration from a band like Creeper who did this kind of thing last year to such an amazing standard (the whole phone calls and clues stuff).

First they take inspiration with the marketing, then they take their crowd for their set at R&L.

Skinny Girl Diet out, replaced by Twisted Wheel.

They're decent. Will definitely see a bit of them before Demob Happy.

Shame their best material was released almost 10 years ago lmao. New EP is a bit shit.

If BMTH are doing a big secret set it's almost set surely that they'll return next year to top it. Tbh I think them not doing it is the only semi-realistic hope of Arctic Monkeys playing it.

I don’t think it’s that set in stone, man. QOTSA didn’t play this year.

Didn't Eminem do basically the same thing for his album launch last year? But with a medicine helpline rather than a self-help one.

Wouldn’t know how to find out older examples but you’d think it’s a an idea that acts have been doing for a while, given all the crazy shit they used to use phone lines for

You Stole The Sun is a bit of a guilty pleasure lmao. Not gonna lie I haven't heard more than two or three tracks from that first album and skimmed through a new single earlier lmao.

They chose to do their own date though instead, BMTH aren't going to announce their own outdoor London show next year.

You don't know that at all. Maybe R&L's first choice headliners were Kendrick, Arctic Monkeys and Royal Blood or something so QOTSA booked their own shows, and then once those options had fallen through it was too late to get QOTSA.

If R+L fit with Queens’ plans then it could have happened. Clearly it didn’t.

I think the imminent secret set makes BMTH a little bit more likely than I had thought but the other options are still there. Hadn’t actually thought about Finsbury Park until Gazza mentioned it being impossible.

The clashfinder for Leeds is different to the one on the website btw. Says Lizzo and Noname are on at the same time but the website says different times?

Yeah they’ve changed the times for the first few acts on every day of dance stage and the day Lizzo plays on 1Xtra. I can’t edit at the moment but if anyone else can it’d be appreciated. ?

Heard rumours that there's a secret set on the Radio 1 Stage same time as Kings of Leon are playing. Can't give away who it is to protect my source but I'll give you all a clue. Tranquility Base Hotel and Casino. As you were x

The main stage would be soo empty if that was true!! If only xx

That's good to know. I tried to update it but I dunno how you do it/it wouldn't let me.

I mean, Creeper didn't invent marketing campaigns like this. They've been around for a good while.

EDIT: I'm actually pretty sure that BMTH did something similar for Sempiternal even

    • Cool, if potentially completely exhausting, idea.
    • We don't have any choice but I don't need a t-shirt for it! 🙂    On the bright side, it gets it out of the way for a nice 5 year run... notwithstanding wars, new contagious diseases and apocalypse.
