2016 tick list

This year is our second appearance at Worthy Farm, and needless to see we loved it last time but we have room for improvement.  This year's goals are as follows

1 - see a non-pyramid headliner.  Should be easy this year but the pull can be strong.  New Order are a big help

2 - Try to make a mental or photographic note of all the places we end up.  Perhaps this is a hard one as depends on some semblance of sobriety but its like the most fun I had in 2014 was dancing on some tables to some indie classics on Thursday afternoon but I've no idea where that was!

3 - Experience more late night activities.  We found Spike last time and kinda loved it but went there too often so some late night dancing is required instead - any tips?'ll

4 - Get up earlier in the morning.  Yeah I know, perhaps both 3 & 4 is being a bit greedy at my age!

5 - use the lock ups to prevent me being heavy laden from dawn to dusk.  We'll be in CV West again so don't plan on popping back until bedtime.

6 - more pints.  With my backpack full of cans and a plastic bottle of red wine round my neck I didnt feel the need to visit many bars last night but whilst financially wise its an experience I kinda missed out on.  I bought some mind but looking at the pub crawl thread makes me drool.

7 - talk to more random people.  I mean i probably did last time but i cant remember much ( see point 2)

8 - try and work out what arcadia is all about.  i remember standing at the barrier late at night watching cars being picked up but did i miss something?

9 - silent disco, crafts, circus tent.

10 - take more photos.  watching some peoples vlogs on youtube is great and whilst i will never be aware enough to shoot any video, a few photos would be great.  Like every hour or something.  This is kinda turning into point 2 isnt it?

have i missed anything?

Good list.  Definitely get away from the Pyramid stage.   I would add visiting the Cabaret and Circus areas - in particular find Jonathan Kay in the Astrolabe in cabaret (I think he's there every day) for some really surreal, random madness (I was part of a group running round singing the Flintstones theme while pretending to be ostriches, mobbing innocent passers by).  Amazing experience.  In fact the whole Cabaret area was great!

And I'm thinking of buying a cheap camera to help with recording some of what I experience.  I have a good camera but it's quite big and heavy to lug around.

A  Spend more time @ West Holts stage. Its my 6th festival coming up. Seen only 3/4 acts.

B. Eat. I don't eat well enough when Im there and there is a lot of good stuff on offer.

C. Spend some time after hours away from the SE corner and Arcadia. Maybe the Park.

D. Go in the Beat Hotel.

E. Abandon my plans more. Afterhours things go for a burton, but during the day I usualky know a fair chunk of what Ill be doing. One day, just go off somewhere and find out whats on.

Agree with all of these, only thing I'd change is Park for WH in A. Spent quite a lot of time in WH last year, thoroughly enjoyed it but feel like I was barely at The Park and the short time I was around there I loved it.

This would be no.1 for us as seriously die on our feet from barely eating (and drinking too much!! :D)

Things for me would be:

  • Get up & moving as early as possible so make most of the day
  • finally go and see the common area properly (Thursday night I reckon)
  • get over my fear of crowds and go through Shangri La properly at night
  • try the silent disco (maybe)
  • check out this bar at the top of the hill and the crow's nest :)

1. Be more adventurous with food. I'm not fussy but often when I'm hungry I play it safe and end up eating what I always do. Think if I try and eat some healthier food my stomach may be more settled too.

2. Less faffing. Certainly improved last year as there was just two of us but when you're with a big group it's very easy to just waste time at the tents when people are getting ready or chilling.

3. More exploring Friday - Sunday. I usually contain my exploring for the first two days and then commit myself to the music for the rest. I think this is a bad tactic as I always end up missing things I always say I want to see (circus, poetry, green fields stuff etc)

yeah a bit of cabaret sounds just the ticket.

I'm also thinking of taking a cheap camera to make some more memories, my phone is decent for taking pics but it helps kill the battery!

Shangri la did seem really intimidating the one time we had a look ( on the Saturday night I think).  Full of kids as well ;)

I also found it a bit intimidating the first time I went, it's just super busy. I'm a very short person and after a few drinks the Shangri La crowds are overwhelming but it's worth a crack if you haven't experienced it!

It'll be my 2nd year too, my checklist goes something like:

  • Get to all the areas I didn't last year. I'm sure I won't make it around everywhere again but hopefully I'll see something in the Circus fields, Crossaint Neuf, get to the Unfairground at night, Block 9, this list goes on. Makes it sound like I didn't see anything last year...
  • Be at the Stone Circle for sunrise. Always gets said on here so it's definitely something I'll try to do.
  • See more things I don't plan on seeing. The few times I deviated from my plans last year were some of the best moments, so I need to remember not to be afraid to miss something if I get distracted by something interesting.
  • Pace myself slightly better on Thursday and Friday so that the rest of the weekend isn't such a struggle.
  • Make it to the Efests meet. Preferably not be a drunken mess too.

I just cannot wait to enjoy good music with good people,

> Take more photos for sure...

> Explore the whole of Glasto...

> Meet/get to know new and exciting people (Last year it was my 1st Festival and my 1st Glasto and I was very overwhelmed, looking forward to chilling out with people.

> I think I want to spend more time in the SE Corner if I'm honest haha! :)

> Sink a few beers on the hill near the GLASTONBURY sign taking it the wonderful view at sunrise/sunset :D

I recommend watching the sunrise on the hill, make sure you're wrapped up as it's usually bloody freezing!

I'm sure I'll see you there ;)  I was lucky enough last year to catch the sunset and it was absolutely incredible, blew my mind!  :D

I dont think its possible to explore the whole of Glastonbury but we definitely want to go a bit more off piste!

Most of the festival seems like a blur to me and I was really overwhelmed by it all - looking forward to being a little more relaxed and in control this year.

Sunrise sounds lovely but is that a case of staying up all night and ruining the following day or getting up early and being knackered all day?  God I sound old dont I? lol

We can try :) Well at least maybe visit the Circus and all that good stuff, for me anyway!

I feel the exact same way too, it'll be so good and we know where everything is

Haha, I'll be over at the SE Corner till the early morning so I'll take a stroll and catch it then :D

1) Make something in the craft field instead of talking about it and then getting drunk on Thurs/Fri

2) Stay up later on Fri (tend to crash and burn a bit due to first day excitement and culmination of Weds and Thurs boozing

3) Think up some different late night options. My group aren't huge fans of Shangri-La and naughty corner queuing and last time we spent a lot of time in Williams Green. Don't get me wrong, the cheesy disco is ace fun, esp. on Weds/Thurs but a bit much after three nights.

4) Find somewhere that sells a breakfast bloody Mary (I think beat hotel does? There must be more though. I would DIY but transporting tomato juice in a rucksack of possessions is high risk)

Me and my friend fell on the common last year on the Friday night as we went for a wander after we'd seen Florence. Can honestly say it was one of my favourite experiences, think we wandered back to the tent at about 7am Saturday morning...

The stages in Green Futures are fun places to be in the early hours.

Thanks! Yes, I've definitely neglected this part of the site after dark for the last couple of years.

I know it's tempting to set out what you're planning to do, and I love making lists as much as the next man, but don't try to regulate the fun or you won't have any fun.  Pretty much without exception, all the best times I've had there have been doing things on the fly and making decisions in the moment.

Do however get away from the main stages and explore more.  There is so so sooooo much more on offer and its a lot more rewarding than watching a big screen and a load of flags.

Oh, and after 6 visits, I've still not seen all of the site and probably never will.  You have to make your peace with that.

Yes i think you are right, I was just thinking aloud really adn considering what could make my experience better but no matter what planning I try to do when I'm there they'll all be out of the window.

Perfect epilogue there - think we can close this thread now :)

Last year I made an effort to see some of the regular acts, that are always there, but which I never see.  So I got to the Beans on Toast @ Hell stage (far too crowded!) and Biggles wartime band @ bandstand.  Loads left, like wheel of 4 tunes and Mik Artistic, so hopefully tick off a few more this year.

Also more late night wandering, last year was a bit lacking on my part - I was all set for a late one Saturday night but then decided I'd rather be up for Dalai Lama and very glad I didn't miss that.

    • I think it will very much vary on who there is to book who they know will sell out a day.    They’ve co-headline and full headline stuff in future, there no reason at all they won’t do it again, even if it means cutting someone’s set by 15 mins or having a band less in a big bands day…   They’re not going to not book Foo fighters and instead get the equivalent of Florence and C&S just to not have a band do a big set…   …unless of course they think it will make them more money…
    • Maybe some right wing leaders like Meloni are just playing to their base, like Reform have been here talking about them ending up at Calais.
    • Citizenship via investment programs basically work by saying if you invest this much in our economy (say buy a property worth x) then we will either grant you citizenship or residency with a route to it. The EU has rules on how low countries can set the bar. Montenegro was one of the easier ones to get and they've had to tighten it up.
