tickets and how it could be done better

Not everyone has the benefit of trying for tickets in groups. None of my friends are interested in going any more.

The thing about people wanting to 'do' Glastonbury is the inherent problem. Mummy and Daddy forking out for them to 'do' festivals, their gap yaaa etc.

Maybe I'll just wait until festivals are no longer fashionable. Or maybe it's the universe telling me that at 40 I'm too old and Glastonbury is now a young people's game requiring big groups and fast internet connections.

 

My aunty wanted to 'do Glastonbury'. She was 60. She done it.

Wasn't having a go, I imagine most of us on here are the people in our groups that make the most effort. On an effort basis, I'd say everyone on here deserves to go. A lot of the friends we all got tickets for? Not so much

 

 

It might be. "Free time" isn't a luxury we all have in the same amount. A single mother of three working two jobs isn't going to have as much time as a student to do that revision.

Then the analogy is flawed as its not representative of the Glastonbury ticket process.

Glastonbury stop booking big name Pop / Heavy Rock Metal / Rap Acts. Announce the full line-up before tickets go on sale. This will put a lot of people off going and make it a better festival IMO.

What Heavy Rock Metal acts were there this year? I lost track after Motorhead and Enter Shikari

I also think this lose your deposit system is also a bit silly. If people put it down as a maybe then find out they can't go the ticket goes back into the system. Yes, it is a pain if you're trying to book time off work but no tickets enter or leave the system so I don't understand the problem. I think it is good that you get it refunded if you can't go which most festivals aren't willing to do

If there's no cost to getting the deposit back, presumably a lot of people might try to buy tickets just in case they might want to go and then not feel obliged to actually go if something better (yeah I know) comes up.

 

This means that people like the good folk on this forum, who definitely want to go, might not getting tickets in the main sale and so book something else next year.

 

What I'm saying is it makes you think about whether you're actually going or not.

"Can't go" and "waiting to see if you fancy it closer to the time" are 2 completely different things though.

 

If you find out you can't go to a normal gig you can't get a refund unless you've bought refund protection as part of your ticket - even then you'd need a doctor's note or a Police incident/crime number.

 

If they keep the mid-May refund thing it still means they're doing more than other festivals etc.

Here is what is going to happen.

 

They will keep upping the price, it will continue to sell out in less than an hour every year.

 

Eventually they will also be able to make us pay the full ticket balance on T-Day - and then not announce a bean before the festival opens.

 

They will long continue to sell out and do as they please because why not!

It's not though. You've listed three things there. That it's the best system is arguably true. That it's the easiest for the festival to use is nonsense - if they wanted that they wouldn't bother with pre-registration and so on. Just let the tickets go on the open market.

 

It's not the fairest either. It contains designed biased towards rewarding effort and some preparation (and group sizes of exactly six) - it's specifically designed not to give everybody an equal chance. If you actually want to give everyone an equal chance, a ballot system does that.

Accessibility is the only issue I have with the process - in that some people simply can't fill out the booking form and the payment details in the time provided.

If you get in (past the holding page) and then have 10 minutes guaranteed to complete it (like other sites) then that would be fairer.

Or maybe, have had the chance to pre-fill the form and payment details prior to the holding page - the holding page in this case just being a pure lottery/gateway to "Thanks" or "Sorry".

Also you don't have to be tech-savvy, you just have to have internet access. I'm a professional software developer and have never got through to the booking page myself.

This is my sixth Glastonbury! Good job I know luckier people cos I get shit   Actually I think one year I saw the reg details page but by the time I'd entered the details it had sold out
