Security simulations/scenarios

Hi all :)

Not strictly Glastonbury related (although I know it does go on at Glastonbury).

Has anyone seen/experienced the simulations performed by security? Specifically, a large crowd is created around one or two people, and people start doing lots of NOS balloons (but not inhaling them), some Essex type people start chanting "who's got the balloons" (sorry people from Essex, that comment isn't directed at the lovely majority!), followed by further tests for weed (legalize it or similar comes on, people start rolling 'joints' and singing loudly), coke/md (dance music comes on, people start very openly snorting things), LSD (scary looking lights are used). Go deeper, and crowd gets very very thick and you become surrounded on all sides. Go back, and there's people sitting around and walking through, with an ice cream van manned by security.

Aforementioned undercovers are all very scripted, follow a pre-determined path and sequence, and will regularly do bad stock photo style freeze-frames, like you'd see in a brochure about it (I assume to create unease and make anyone innocent want to leave).

Lots of disposable cameras taking photos, people attempting to knock water bottle out of wherever you have it/unclip your bag. Later on, if you fail the tests, rehearsed crowds, bumper cars with a test to see if you've realised, etc.

I'm 100% certain I've seen a G4S (or similar) video of this before. Does anyone happen to have a link to it, or has seen either the video, or it happen in person?

wtf? you're suggesting in the middle of a crowd at glastonbury you know they set up their own crowd with varying levels of comedy singing stoners, scary lights ready to pretend someone nearby is on LSD (cos that's what it's like) and an icecream van to.......... get people to join in buying a balloon?

Taking your water bottle and putting you on a bumper car?

I think you may want to talk to Yog about help with issues related to psychedelics :/

I'll address that.

Set up their own crowd - yes. Not the whole crowd, obviously, but a decent sized group of people.

Creepy lighting is one of the parts, to identify psychedelic users. There's a separate 2 minute or so one for coke/md, weed, as well as balloons. Ice cream van is to get a view of people's wallets for a photo, to see whether they're dealing.

Not taking your water bottle, but just knocking it out, so that you hopefully bend over, revealing something you potentially shouldn't have in your pockets/bag. Not getting put on a bumper car.

I know for a fact that I've seen the video before. If you haven't seen the video, you may only be familiar with the odd crowd suddenly forming, with people doing stock photo expressions.

Dude I think the ice cream vans are just ice cream vans, the guys taking selfies/group shots are just guys taking selfies/group shots and I've never in my life seen someone carry around 'creepy lighting' which all would be pointless anyhow as being on the drug isn't a crime so wasted effort and time

There may be a shit training video where they attempt to simulate some of these crowds to show security what they imagine it's like, but I can't ever imagine them attempting such elaborate methods to catch someone with a few balloons/having a spliff when there are more effective methods (listen/smell) and they can't even catch all the tent thieves. None of the methods described would ever attract a dealer - someone already dealing balloons? market gone - already stoned(?singing loudly) people? have weed already - someone tripping? probably not trying to deal and count cash.... taking the test failures onto bumper cars..... as described it would be a nigh on pointless exercise, albeit very surreal and not beyond the likes of Shangri-La perhaps

I don't doubt that almost all are. In fact, even the one in question could be a regular one, but simply temporarily manned by security for 5-10 minutes.

The guys taking selfies/group shots are just guys taking selfies/group shots

I didn't mention selfies/group shots (although of course, they happen). I'm talking photos specifically of individuals (although it's unlikely that anyone who hasn't seen the video will be familiar with that).

I've never in my life seen someone carry around 'creepy lighting' which all would be pointless anyhow as being on the drug isn't a crime so wasted effort and time

I'm not talking handheld lighting, I'm talking stage lighting.

.

When you have people on zero hour contracts working for pennies, it's not a huge expense, especially for such a giant company. And I'd imagine undercovers have a far higher level of effectiveness than overt security, surely?

How would you do it? The people I'm talking about wouldn't have to be licensed security people @ £20/hr, they could be anyone @ £5/hr, they just need to gather evidence and pass the info onto the licensed ones. If I was running a multi £b security company, give me 4 undercover evidence gatherers over a single licensed person any day.

None of the methods described would ever attract a dealer - someone already dealing balloons? market gone - already stoned(?singing loudly) people? have weed already - someone tripping? probably not trying to deal and count cash....

No one already dealing balloons, a couple with personal crackers, with others shouting "who's got the NOS?", similar tactics for the other drugs. Would imagine on the personal ones that it's partly to get a clue if anyone's selling them, and if not, if they're selling anything else, to build up a profile on them so they know what they're dealing with/have something to help with a conviction if the evidence they collect is limited.

taking the test failures onto bumper cars..... as described it would be a nigh on pointless exercise, albeit very surreal and

As I've mentioned, there's no taking of the test failures onto bumper cars. My recollection of that part of the video isn't strong enough to do justice describing it.

I think we need to see this video...

Hopefully someone will pop up who's either seen the video, or experienced the crowd suddenly appearing doing stock photo expressions. I know how it sounds, but I'm not crazy, honest!

When I said group photos I meant the posed shots

All a bit bonkers innit

These people simply aren't that organised, I've seen plenty of undercover guys and never anything even remotely like that

There was a thing in the woods where we surrounded a tree what had a massive mushroom on it. It may have been the drug sort of mushroom. We had people take photos of the people with mushroom, on the tree, and the people, esp. the people doing mdma and smoking weed before we went back to the tents, although some of the tents had police type people in them suveilling us like it was an undercover tent type tent.

Then I woke up in time to be best man at Scruffylovemonster and Yog's wedding.

And hit my head.

And woke up again.

And Yog was laughing at me and we drew on Couchy and then I woke up again.

And it was Thursday at Glasto.

    • If you didn't see melt banana at Apolo. Go see them at the festival. Insane.
    • Interesting, and thanks for coming back to give an update! I've seen that the second stage looks bigger than usual too, looks to be a Serious Stages - Stellar Stage from distance photos.    Seems like sizing wise stages have been scaled up somewhat this year.
    • I see its cancelled now but they did leave it really late to announce plus they are up against Kelburn Garden Party Festival not to far from the festival site.
    • Easily my favourite set of the day.
