Do we think there's space for a band like DMA's to be in the next announcement somewhere? I think they'd gather a decent crowd in the NME tent. Would be a nice addition in my opinion

Yeah there'll be space for plenty of bands of their size.

I was watching MTV because they had a show for some of the acts for R+L 2017 and Lower Than Atlantis were played.

I dunno if i'm reading into it too much and I don't think MTV have inside knowledge we are unaware of but they've played 4 of the last 5 years and released a new album last month so I feel they're definitely in with a shout of playing again this year.

Just generally intrigued but if everyone could choose one act for each stage who would they want?

Personally I'd say:

Main Stage: Royal Blood

NME: The Kooks/ Kaiser Chiefs

Dance: Wilkinson

Pit: Rise Against

Festival Republic: Watsky

1xtra: Joey badass

In no way am I expecting all these to be announced but it's who i'd be happy with,

What's everyone else hoping for?

Watsky would be awsome!! Kaiser Chiefs would be good too, I saw them earlier this month and were a lot better than i thought they'd be, prefer their older stuff though. The likelihood is that them or the kooks would take a main stage slot i think. NME should be expecting someone like RTJ, Chance or London Grammar to headline their stage.

Chance The Rapper is headlining Lollapalooza alongside Muse, Arcade Fire and The Killers.

Don't get me wrong, I like him, Colouring Book was good, but there is no way on earth he is in the same category as those in terms of size. That's crazy. Idk if that counts him out of R+L or not but if he ends up playing will it affect his position? Could he end up subbing rather than third down/NME?

It doesn't affect his position. He's already not headlining some festivals over in Europe.

But it's not really crazy either. He's headlining a bunch of other US festivals so it's fair, and being a Chicago native who does a lot for the community if there's anywhere he deserves to be headlining it's there. In fact, he's actually considered the no. 1 act on the line up, as in America they have this weird thing where acts are placed in a rank order and agents will bicker with promoters to get their act a higher ranking. There would be devastating scenes on here if that was the case in the UK and we were constantly locked in arguments about whether someone is a second line act or a third line act.

But yeah, back to what you were saying about the size of those acts; festivals stateside are doing really well at moving newer and current acts into headline positions and I feel like it's even getting to a point where acts like Muse and The Killers and Blink are sticking out like a sore thumb amongst the billed acts. I think the tide is changing for festival headliners in some places.

He is from Chicago so I guess that counts for something

Can't say I'm a huge fan of it, for me Brainwashed has been their best album, and I'm not too sure about the direction of this new album. Will always buy a ticket to see the guys though, incredible live.

Seeing them for the second time on their upcoming time, the first time was unbelievable and they had to end it early because of a stage invasion, they're unreal live

    • A mixed first day for us. First of all, we were honestly quite shocked that there was no security check at all at the VIP entrance around 7:30 PM. No bag check, nothing. I’ve attended Primavera many times over the years and this felt surprisingly lax for an event of this size. Did anyone else experience the same?   Another disappointment was the communication regarding the weather situation. Primavera has some of the best sound systems and speaker setups in the festival world, yet somehow they were not able to make a single clear announcement explaining what was happening. Instead, people were expected to read tiny messages on screens in Mordor while thousands were left wondering what was going on. A simple and direct audio announcement would have gone a long way.   On a lighter note, this guy absolutely made my day. Sitting right in front of the Estrella Damm terrace, wearing nothing but a long-sleeve shirt, jeans and a pair of Converse All Stars, he remained completely unbothered by the rain. While everyone else was looking for shelter, he sat there wearing sunglasses, calmly watching the crowd as if he was watching a movie.   Absolute main character energy!
    • I think my party got pretty lucky last night, at least compared to some of the horror stories over on Reddit. I was very impressed with Father John Misty in particular.   Perhaps my view would be different if I were a big Massive Attack fan or whatever, but right now my feeling is that if it's not safe for the shows to go ahead... then it's not safe for the shows to go ahead. I'd much rather they were cautious than roll the dice when it comes to something like that.    Here's hoping everyone has a better day today.
    • It was awful during Father John Misty and I was close to the front. People just shouting and laughing their f-ing heads off about nothing in particular and being louder than the bloody stage.
    • Other things I noted yesterday, away from the obvious…   Positives: - an extra water point towards the back left of the main stages has appeared, which I believe is new for this year (and was much needed) - handing out free ponchos was a good touch  - caroline were fantastic. I’d never been in the Auditori Rockdelux before, it’s a wonderful venue and a great venue if you fancy a more chilled out environment  Negatives: - the talkers. I know it’s always bad here (and most festivals nowadays) but f**k me people wouldn’t shut up yesterday. I wonder if it was partly as a result of people being at artists they had little interest in (due to rain limiting their options), although it wasn’t great during blood orange. We’ll be making an effort to get a spot nearer the front for anyone we particularly care about over the weekend  - not enough staff around (and the ones that are there are largely useless). Most other festivals have them everywhere and are happy to help
