The dilemma for 2016...

O'Doyle Rules

I'm gonna be in the U.S. on ticket day next year .. I'll still try for them .. Will it work the same as if I was in the UK? Or will they class my browser as being an International ticket?

You should be OK.  The last couple of times I've been the guys who've managed to get our group tickets have been logging in while on holiday abroad, and actually seem to have better luck getting through the queuing system.

I'm applying for tickets to the Euros next year. Never been to a major football tournament and have always wanted to.

If I do manage to get tickets it could lead to an awkward decision - Glastonbury or a trip to France for the Euros? No way I could afford to do both.

My dilemma is that I'm in France from mid June until mid July. To get to Glasto I'd have to fly to the UK and fly back again after the festival. How do I do this on no money?

Start saving a couple of quid a day, in a separate bank account. That's my plan and than Glastonbury is already paid for and I might get another holiday in next year. If I ditch buying things whilst at work, I will save a couple of quid each day and that can go into a savings account for holidays! This came to be during sunrise on the Monday morning. Might help you.. it might not?

We got ours this year whilst in Belgium, actually had more success on ticket day whilst abroad rather than UK, not sure whether there is a technical reason why or just luck.

Sounds to me like St Dan is going to be putting in a block order for tickets while he's in the US on ticket day!  Shotgun first available space

Thanks for the help Quark and tartanwolf .. I have been worrying about it as my friends seem to be useless on ticket day .. I've managed to get through the last 6 years whilst they've not had any luck .. Although I still always think they're in bed after a heavy Saturday night!!

Only issue now is getting up at 4am to sort the tickets .. But it will be more than worth it! Don't think the 'Lite' beers they drink over there could ever take their toll on me anyway!!

The thing is, the last time Wales qualified for a major tournament was in 1958 so this could well be a once in a lifetime thing for me. As someone who follows the team regularly I don't want to miss out when these ones roll around. I should also get priority with it, so I'll be going to all the group games at least. I'm praying that I find some money from somewhere which allows me to fly back and to for Glastonbury but I really can't see it. At least Russy will be happy, at least one less football fan at the festival ;)

If you do go and we are somehow drawn against each other a glass of wine's on me!

A lot of areas in the US are changing, there is a real craft brewery culture, more IPA that bitter in style, but have seen some up around the 6-7% mark. There is Californian one called Seirra Nevada that is now appearing in the UK, it is a really nice beer.

Sounds good, I'm finalising my application right now. Applying for games in Lille & Lens, doing it blind so if I do get some I won't know who I'm seeing until the draw's made. Mate of mine did this for Brazil last year and ended up with Spain-Holland, France-Switzerland and Germany-Portugal. Knowing my luck I'll get Poland-Latvia or somesuch.

I actually hope England end up on the other side of France to where I'll be. Can't really be doing with pissed up idiots throwing chairs around.

Any good at swimming? : )

Yes! But I hate the sea :(

Haha, hopefully our lot won't be that bad. Can see us taking a good 20,000 out there so it might get bad at times, especially if the inter-club rivalry kicks in. Our lot destroyed a pub beyond repair in Italy in 2003 and nearly repeated that in Belgium last year :(

If we don't progress however, we're aiming to get to some of the later games.

We'll all be fine as long as no-one draws anyone else.

Fair point just trying to help will shut up

Nah its cool, was just a joke. Unless his company can manage without all 3 of them for a 5 days, I'm not sure there's any useful advice really though.

After a meeting in the pub last night my mates and I have made our applications. We're aiming for Lille & Lens. There's a six day period Tuesday to Sunday where you could see two final group games and two second round games. This is what we're aiming for, although sadly this is also Glastonbury week.

Sod it, I've done nine Glastonbury's and will almost certainly do more in the future. I'll most likely never get to do this again, certainly not while I'm still young enough to enjoy it.

I have always done festivals of all descriptions with my best mate for years. (Since 2002).

Next year he is getting married. Their honeymoon is during Glastonbury. Both him and his fiancé have been at all 5 Glastonbury's I have been to. 2 other friends I have been to the last 2 with are getting married and are not going next year either. Im still pretty sure I will be going for a ticket in October, but I'm not 100% yet.

I don't know whether it will be the same.

Thinking abou seeing if I could work the festival instead? So I get a completely different experience from it?

The thought of going on my own isn't a problem, but especially after spending that much time with my mate, the laughs we have had. I don't know whether I'd enjoy it as much.

    • If you didn't see melt banana at Apolo. Go see them at the festival. Insane.
    • Interesting, and thanks for coming back to give an update! I've seen that the second stage looks bigger than usual too, looks to be a Serious Stages - Stellar Stage from distance photos.    Seems like sizing wise stages have been scaled up somewhat this year.
