BEST AND WORST CAMPING SPOTS

Pretty much the same as above... if you're realistic and aren't expecting to be in the thick of it, you'll be fine. Look for places like Lime Kiln/ Pylon (depending on which side you want to be) and forget Oxylers/ Big ground etc.

 

We did Lime Kiln one year and it was about an hour walk back to the tent from the naughty corner (this is a guess, plus we were suitably messed up, but it didn't feel too long!) I don't think many people mind the walk - more chance to see crazy stuff!

Really considering Lime Kiln, I like the idea of being on the hill, and as I am arriving by coach wednesday evening 7-8 it should still be pretty empty. 

 

I actually find the walk back through the site in the early hours quite pleasant (mud permitting), you never know what you might find.

I'm guessing the likes of big ground, row mead and kidney mead are well and truly booked up by noon on the Wednesday?

 

By 10.30am Weds pretty much last year. People who work at the festival are known to 'reserve' areas for their mates, which I think is a bit crap (and also in the same line of annoyance as chairy marys)

How long does it take for Hawkwell to fill up? Seriously looking into camping by the Pyramid, though in reality I know that I'll probably just dump my tent in the nearest spot I can see when I arrive at the gate.

If you look at Glastomap, the aerial photo was taking on the Thursday last year so you can see how full the campsites are. Good indicator for those who are planning on arriving late Wednesday/Thursday.

I'd imagine on 1 of the hills wouldn't be too comfy, it baffles me how people pitch their tent where the hill is quite steep and still get a good nights kip.

Hi. I think there's a more recent camping thread but I couldn't find it so I'm posting here ...

I'm just wondering where is the quietest camping spot for a good nights sleep, not too far from where the buses drop you off. Previous years I've been in Hitching Hill, which is pretty quiet in regards to noise from people, but The Beat Hotel can be heard til quite late.

I would have previously said Woodsies fits that criteria but its now hospitality so I'll be trying Pylon this year which I hear is nice and quiet and is obviously close to Gate A.

Wickets used to be a real quiet speck but that's now family camping, have a look on here http://glastomap.com/ I'd say anywhere near the fence at the back is pretty quiet.

Pylon looks close to Silver Hayes. Does that not blurt out dance music til late? I assumed it did.

We were in Darble last year, quiet as a church at night.  Sure there is a bit of thum thum thum in the air til 2ish but that is the same anywhere.  It was about a minute and a half from Gate A and we liked it so much there that we are returning this year (I've never returned to the same camping field before, having tasted the atmosphere all over).  Pylon and Rivermead seemed to be of the same ilk to me.  Any of those are roomy, filled with friendly folk who are also looking for a quieter night's kip and really easy to get to from either gate A or D.

We stayed in Bushy last year and it was dead quiet, came in gate D though so might be a bit of a walk from the bus but not too far. Also good compost toilets

I was in Pylon last year and found it very easy to sleep. Not much noise at all.

I'm sad to say I woke up too late last year on the Wednesday morning to head down to Row Mead and see how on earth that bloody 'Pilton Palace' tent gets the same massive spot every year...

Thanks for the suggestions. Can anyone confirm or deny if it is likely it will be quieter or louder than Hitchen Hill, in regards to Hitchen Hill having The Beat Hotel in the background?

If you value somewhere to spread out  then there is lots of empty space in Black House near the Campervan West gate....

What is the toilet provision like in that corner of the fields these days.  I was nearby in 2011 and 2013 and found the loo and water situation to be a bit sparse compared to elsewhere.

Usually camp in Dairy Ground but quite far away from the action, so looking for a new spot hence the bump! Someone recommended Cocksmill but i thought this was for families only!

What should I expect from Oxlyers? Hoping to get there around 2pm Wednesday, will it be busy at that point?

I've never camped at Oxlyers but every time I walk past it i always think it looks an absolute nightmare. It's in a place surrounded by a lot of busy footpaths and it looks like an absolute bombsite. It's probably the last place on the site I would consider staying.
