The teeny tiny difference is frank turner and emily eavis havent scornfully dismissed the festival for being too middle class.

But ... he is right, you know, about the festival.  He said it used to be interesting when it was a real alternative festival, but now it is just a mainstream middle class festival... and at £200+ a ticket, it is hard to argue against him.

So basically its ok as long as you dont have a negative opinion of Glastonbury?

Of course you could then turn your point around and say that people who went to even more expensive schools are approving of Glastonbury, therefore supporting his statement!

At the end of the day, linking someones  school to what they can and cannot say as an adult is stupid.

It's really quite simple.

If you look like this:

bruce_vvb.jpg

and say this:

Bruce Dickinson has vowed never to bring his band to Glastonbury Festival after dismissing it as “the most bourgeois thing on the planet”.

Then you're a daft c**t.

Well if he things GF is  “the most bourgeois thing on the planet”

Then he obviously has never actually opened his eyes.

I have a close (and very lovely) friend from University that went to Oundle. He has a very polished accent but other than that is hard working and down to earth.

I have other friends from very posh schools and many like me went to (not even very good) state schools. It doesn't define who you are or your entitlement to attend a festival.

does he refuse to play glastonbury on the grounds that it's the most bourgeois thing on the planet?

So now you're judging people on how they look? Sounds like pretty shaky ground to me.

Let me ask you this:

If, instead of wearing a suit, you look like this

and say the same thing, does that make a difference?

If your answer is yes, then you're the daft c**t.

His full quote was this.

“Personally I have no interest in going to Glastonbury,” he told the Daily Star. “In the days when Glasto was an alternative festival it was quite interesting, but anywhere Gwyneth Paltrow goes and you can live in an air-conditioned yurt is not for me.”

Just accept that he doesnt like your festival, and has an opinion that is different to yours

do you think not-for-profit glastonbury festival is more or less bourgeois than an aviation company?

depends if you see flying people home who are in afghanistan and stranded in other countries to be bourgeois, but £600,000 of VIP superloos as acceptable

On one side there's an aircraft maintenance, technical support and training services company. On the other a not-for-profit music festival.

Which one do you think sounds closer to the "most bourgeois thing on the planet"?

    • Annie Lennox could be the one to unite the whole forum, nobody has a bad word to say about her, even noted curmudgeon Skip 😄 I'd probably even amble along for a bit meself, and i'm also a miserable sod
    • If the below link works - thats interesting.   While I don't particularly put much stock in that account as a source (never seen it before though, tbf), and I can pick a hole or two (see below) in what he says - the timing of it is a week before I had the Fontaines '27 stadium info (same stadium he says on there, Tottenham). The info, or part of it, matches up.   Holes I'd pick: I'd have to watch again but I THINK he says 'end of year' for Tottenham - not possible, for a number of reasons, though he's probably just got his words mixed up there. It's Summer '27, or that's what I've been told. He also says Glastonbury is/would be based on how the album does. That doesn't stack up to me, unless it was a 2028 thing. I suppose that could stack up, but still seems a bit of an odd approach. I would personally still expect it to be 2027 alongside the stadium gigs, IF they are gonna do it, though I've still not got a Scooby when the album is gonna drop, only that the tour is due for Spring (or early) next year.   Interesting, nonetheless.   https://www.instagram.com/reel/DaOB3Q9qkwW/
    • I was hoping that they would just do a tour like they were set to in 2020, rather than having Download as their UK appearance. If they are at DL, I would be surprised to see them headline. I think they sub under Deftones or SOAD
    • well, we might know by the end of next month if they drop the lineup early again
