Actually think Adele would be a good fit as sub with the sun going down. If it was tipping it down and windy, it would be a disaster. Getting cold and wet and listening to her ballads about her ex and her new bloke for 2 hours.....hmmmm, not so sure. She's the type of act that would be ruined by bad weather.

I know what you mean, but would it be such a bad thing if they done Glastonbury next year? It's unlikely, but it couldn't be for the money if they were booked at Glastonbury, and they've never headlined. It would make a lot of people happy.

If Foo's are around next year then I think it'll be them and Ed Sheeran nailed on. They seem obvious choices and both want to play. After that there's a lot of possibilities, but not easy to predict who it would be. Fleetwood Mac, Prince (hope they don't even approach him), Depeche Mode, Stone Roses,  or the one that would piss a lot of people off but is possible is Noel Gallagher, with a new album likely to be out. Don't read anything into him doing medium size festivals this year, he obviously just fancies something different. Them are the first names that come to my mind. They would probably like a female artist. Who is headliner size in 2017?

Can't imagine it will be him, but if it is, prepare to be deeply disappointed. He was already showing signs of not being up to it when he played in 2004 and judging by the Olympics opening ceremony he's gone downhill rapidly.

I see one as a headliner, a headliner which no one will expect because i think we all expect adele/muse/radiohead now but something different from the big rumours would be nice.

The Stone Roses have spent the last 30 years talking the talk. It is about time they walked the walk.

That first album is the greatest individual album I have ever heard and I think the second coming is far better than the reputation it has. The problem is that after everything  they have said over the years, they would just be mugging the fans off if all they are going to do is have big karaoke sessions while topping up their pensions in the process. 

My own personal opinion here is that they don't deserve the kudos of a Glastonbury headline set without new music, especially as it seems they were more intent on whoring themselves out first to the highest bidder.

Everyone who has wanted to watch them will have done over the last few years. No doubt there would be a shedload of people wanting to watch them but they will tarnish their legacy imo if there are no new tunes.

AC/DC are playing early June in london/manchester, also my dad told me that the real XS radio station did say AC/DC will be playing/heavily rumoured. I think theres still as much chance as them playing as anyone else really, and I hope they're!

This is about as daft as those who think Coldplay being booked will make the resale easier.. the 'clamour for megabands' didn't die down when they booked a trio of Arcade Fire, Metallica and Kasabian so why would it after 2016 if for 2016 they've booked Coldplay and Adele, acts playing four nights at Wembley and eight nights at The O2 this year respectively?

In addition to my earlier post about 1995 being my first Glastonbury and seeing The Cure etc. the reason I bought a ticket that year was because the Roses were headlining the Saturday night.... or were supposed to until John Squire fell off his flipping mountain bike!

When they reformed I assumed they would be a shoe in to come back and headline the pyramid as soon as possible but no, they have chased the coin mercilessly here, there and everywhere; and I think announcing the Etihad shows this summer without first announcing concrete plans on a new album is pretty pathetic. Sitting them out, much though it pains me.

But seeing as ticket sales were so frenzied I guess they probably don't care, which is terribly sad.

Yep, it's people who have only seen him on the telly who think he's finished. Live he's still brill (or was in 2013 anyway).

Agree, he even sounded good at the Birmingham NIA last summer, which takes some doing. From memory he had problems with his in-ears at the Olympic Opening Ceremony - if that one night of technical issues means Britain's greatest ever songwriter spends the rest of his days disproving a myth he can't sing live then it'll be a crying shame.

I understand where you are both coming from and I would probably feel the same if I felt fulfilled with them. I've only seen them twice though, and its not enough for me yet. They do need to start releasing some new music though if they are going to keep on doing this, or people will start to get sick.

I don't think Glastonbury would be worried about any new music though. They've never played, so I think the festival would love to have them.

I am going to The Etihad with all my mates and I also had a ticket to go and watch them in Dublin (New Order announced a gig the same day so I obviously decided to get rid of The Roses ticket). Having grew up with them though and listened to them, it would be rather sad if they just became the establishment.

One positive though is that John Robb has tweeted about The Roses today. When asked about new tunes, he has said "My lips are sealed"

I had heard off someone pretty close to Mani that there were new tunes in the offing so hopefully all our fears are unwarranted.

Every cloud and all that, with Squire breaking his arm you will have got to see Pulp at their zenith. That surely must have cheered you up a little?

The atmosphere and sheer warmth/goodwill that seemed to flow between the artist and crowd made it pretty hard to not get swept away by it. Hell, I even had a bit of a moment during The Scientist.

Ahh but I wasn't a Pulp fan at the time, and yes I know how good they were, I have the brilliant bootleg!

Portishead in a heaving acoustic tent for me, very good indeed.
