Not sure I'm buying the money thing (no pun intended), nobody is convincing me that they're demanding a higher fee than The Rolling Stones anyway

but they weren't the mega-act then that they are today.

But also, there's plenty of other differences too. Festivals weren't a big thing back then; bands didn't make as much from live shows back then (when more income came from record sales). Etc, etc, etc.

Today they can pick from a number of fantastic offers, and it's also clear it's all about the money for them. They're not back together as a working band, they're coming back together to do some select stuff for big money (that's not said as a criticism, just as the fact that it is).

If the Roses are doing next summer's shows with thoughts of also doing shows in 2017 then Glasto could well be on the cards for then. Given that Eavis has suggested the acts are already lined up for 2017, maybe it's finally going to happen.

 

 

I was thinking they wouldn't play 2017 if this year was the comeback year but I guess given how quick Etihad sold out, couple that with probably newer material by then, they are one of those acts that wouldn't be seen necessarily as if it's not the album year then it won't be them. Provided Muse do Glasto, I only see that happening 2nd year on the album due to a pull out.

Foo's, Roses and Ed Sheeran for 17 is a very strong set.

On the new material front, I have it on reasonably good authority from someone close to the band that an EP is in the offing rather than an album..

That is quite believable. I couldn't imagine them taking too many of the oldies out, for a load of new songs in the setlist either, so if they wrote a few quality new songs, I'm sure that would go down well. I would love a new album though. Only if they have enough quality songs.

Yeah I'd quite like an album but we'll see. I'm so desperate for them to play on the Pyramid more than anything though...

They're massively popular right now, so it would be a gamble to release a new album. If it turns out shit, they will start to lose some of the hype. On the other hand, if they released an EP of really good songs and played them live at these gigs, then disappear again for another 3 years, they won't lose any of the hype at all. Not that I am taking this EP story as fact mind. Would love a great new Roses album more than anything.

Best to bear in mind that The Seahorses' debut album was more or less the songs that Squire had written for a third Stone Roses album, so that's about the sort of standard you should expect.

I know it's not a good idea to get your hopes up, but I'd expect Ian to be writing again this time.  His solo albums are much better than The Seahorses, so we'll hopefully get a higher standard.

That "much better" is still relative.  If new Stone Roses material only manages the standard of Unfinished Monkey Business then I suspect it's not..

Point taken about Squire, though I agree that with Brown involved there is a good chance of a higher standard of songs. Not that I’m saying his solo stuff has much in the way of stone cold classics, but there’s a few which, with a decent band and, better production, could be elevated.

 

 

 

Had the Second Coming on the other day, Reni’s skills are utterly wasted on that album. Scandalous really, he’s a better drummer than Squire is a guitarist.

If we could get an album with a few tunes as good as Stellify on it then I'd be happy.  That's not likely, but at least it's more recent work, whereas Unfinished Monkey Business is nearly 20 years old!

Reni is better at drums than anybody else is at ... anything.

Marley park is about 30,000. Not sure how difficult for tickets, would imagine same as any of their other gigs. A LOT of interest judging by the people I spoke to today when it was announced.

Grrr I just got ahead of myself and booked a room and flight as I have never been to Ireland before and thought it would be the perfect opportunity (although I am off to Belfast next month to watch the Mondays)

I just presumed Marlay Park would be huge and getting a ticket would be no issue. I am all in now anyway so will just have to hope for the best :-)
