Lineup 2016

Yeah every one of those has been made more likely for Download, including The 1975.

Bigger thing is that 30STM didn't get announced for any of these fests though so their announcement today wasn't that and they may be around in August after all.

I'd be absolutely stunned if 30 Seconds to Mars headline.

They're way bigger than Foals and everyone seems to think they are going to headline.

Few names announced for RaR that might be relevant, Deftones, The 1975, Bullet, Korn, Of Mice and Men, all must have a chance

Hopefully and especially Deftones

They are all likely for Download, which makes them less likely for Leeds/Reading. HOWEVER, Melvin Benn is now involved with Livenation's festivals division. There has been some kind of merger/take over so bands may be shared.

Unlikely, Melvin Benn doesn't book the bands for R&L (other than lending his weight to the headliner bookings) and he won't do for Download. Whatever internal process is in place that prevented the festivals sharing many bands (not to mention that they are in different European festival touring cycles for US acts) won't suddenly be discarded now he's filling a vacant role within the Live Nation structure as well as Festival Republic (that's all it is, a personal role change rather than a merger/takeover) - his area of expertise is organisation and infrastructure and that's likely what he'll continue to work on.

but Foals have the 'rising up the festival ranks British act' thing going for them - having them headline will be far more triumphant on behalf of the festival than 30STM, who would just be a bit of a shit headliner (although i watched back the videos of them playing in 2011 and, despite the performance being shite, people are going fucking mental, so what do i know)

Biffy at RAR; even less likely for R&L now then?

The touring thing doesn't apply to British bands as they are in Europe in the first place where as US bands it would mean two treks which makes them unlikely.

30 Seconds To Mars headlining wouldn't be such a shock, I don't think. They are a big band, with lots of mainstream coverage (mostly because of Jared, granted), and with Suicide Squad coming out next August, he will only get more and more coverage. So imagine, hypothetically, if 30STM are to release a new album and are announced as R&L headliners with it being their only UK show of 2016, or something similar. The attention that the bands frontman will bring because of his Hollywood career in August, coupled with them headlining their first UK festival in the same month would be pretty big. They're a band well known for their obsessive fan base too, so I would imagine that tickets for their day at R&L would sell very well.

You can't conflate interest in blockbuster movies and interest in music/festivals. I bet a lot of people who go watch that are gonna be completely oblivious to his music career and certainly won't be forking out to see the dude's band at a festival.

I don't mean people going to watch Suicide Squad will be more inclined to go to a festival because the actor is in a band, because, like you said, a lot of people just going to the cinema or whatever probably won't know that he is even in a band.

What I mean is that because of the movie, he will be getting lots of media coverage, which would be the kind of thing I can imagine the festival being all over, "one of our headliners is fronted by an Oscar winner" blah blah blah. This probably isn't coming across very well. I know what I'm trying to say but I can't seem to articulate it very well :P

Spoke to someone who works for Transgressive records at the weekend and he says a deal is done for Foals to headline the Friday and Disclosure to headline the Sunday. Apparently they're looking for a marquee band to do the Saturday night (I mentioned the Chilis and he said they'd be a decent bet). Also apparently Bloc Party will do the NME tent one night, my guess would be Disclsoure night.

Make of this what you will but it seems pretty plausible imo

Disclosure aren't going to headline.

Also I'd be surprised if they're still looking for a marquee band at this late stage.

Disclosure might be some kind of 'main stage closing act' rather than headliner, although the tendency has been to do that in the tent rather than on the main stage. Don't see why they'd change that.

It's certainly not the worst suggestion. It's the most ideal featival for the band to play. You would think a little that beings not one of those fests today announced them that later in the year shows are more likely.

Rock am Ring looks pretty mint

Decent start, think it's the euro feat I'm going to try for, not next year but in the future. Their lineups usually rip the kind of equivalent in Download over here a new arsehole most years and for about £70 cheaper.
