Weren't New Order strongly rumoured for 2012? In fact, I can recall someone leaking the line-up a few hours before it was announced and it was pretty much spot on, except New Order were subbing Kasabian and Florence was subbing The Cure.

I wonder if they pulled out last minute.

No it was just a standard fake poster with them on it.

Yeah, I remember that poster doing the rounds, but this was different, the line-up was exactly the same as how it actually turned out to be. I remember people saying that there was absolutely no chance of Bombay Bicycle Club being as high as 3rd.

Headlining NME is roughly equivalent to playing 3rd or 4th on the Main Stage, so they kind of stagnated with that 2012 Main Stage slot when they played last year. Their next album would have to be a big one if they were to be pushed up.

Just after they released their last album it took them a while to sell out Brixton IIRC but then by the end of their campaign they sold out Earls Court; they are probably sub-size now

Yeh agreed - future headliners I think - i was in their NME headline slot 2014 and it was off the wall

I wouldn't go as far as to call them future headliners but I can see them subbing on their next album. That last album seemed to get quite a lot of airplay on radio one and as rawaudioinput says they moved onto bigger venues with it too.

But they played around the same position in 2014 as they in 2015, infact it could be argued that it was lower with Nero having a closing set after them (who were also busier than BBC)

I think their 2012 position was a bit too high so them being even further up in 2014 would have looked weird when they clearly weren't big enough for subbing. They seemed to grow in popularity with the last album though (despite festival slots) so I can see them moving up on their next album even if they wouldn't be a particularly strong sub.

No, New Order were never subbing, and BBC were never leaked as playing third until the day.

The 1975's next album will have to be a massive hit for them to be even considered in the discussion of headliners. Given there hasn't even been a single as of yet from their new album I struggle to believe why R&L would consider them as a headliners.

Jay Z is an odd one too. His last album I thought was pretty good, but his only new project is rumoured to be an album with Beyonce and I don't think they're the type of act R&L would book to headline.

    • Proper special gig tonight. They won't mean much to most people, but The Dogs D'Amour were one of the most significant bands of my youth.   Tyla, yer main man of said band, was playing in Birkenhead tonight. Not many there, but it was going fine. Then he decided he didn't like the smoke and the flashing lights so suggested moving the gig to the beer garden. Off we all went, and it was magical. Like having your favourite musician play in your garden. I absolutely loved it.   Before:     After:
