What events do you lot have coming up?

I'm keeping it pretty light at the moment as uni work is quite intense... however,

I've got Move D, Pender Street Steppers and Fred P at Oval Space on the 24th March, DVS1 all night long at Village Underground on April 8th... and Photon Klockworks at Printworks April 31st (I think).

I'm getting too old for staying out past 7pm, but going to see British Murder Boys at the end of the month. That might be it til Field Day and Glastonbury.

Talking of Birmingham techno, I'm taking Ben's absence from this thread to mean he had a spectacular night on Friday. Bless 'im.

I'm going BMB at Oval peace too. Really looking forward to Veronica Vasicka also.

Going to Printworks beforehand for the Kraviz event. Great lineup http://printworkslondon.co.uk/event/galaxiid/

Only 30 days in April so it won't be the 31st!

I. AM. NOT. DEAD.

I am, however, still trying to assimilate Friday night and, tbh, am a wee bit down today, but that will pass quickly!

It was stellar.

Arrived at about 11pm when Nicki B was warming up room 1. And warming up it did need - it was frickin' freezing in there! I was, of course, in t-shirts and shorts and because there weren't many people in there yet and the venue is in tunnels under Victorian arches, it was cold.

Worry not, however, as by the time Regis and Terry Donovan came on at 11.30pm it was getting rammed and I very quickly warmed up and self-congratulated my choice of rave uniform. They were very good indeed for the first couple of hours, though I could definitely tell which of them was playing, even though I couldn't see them. Terry Donovan is a perfectly decent mixer, but Regis is bloody fantastic. Anyone lucky enough to be seeing him back with Surgeon as BMB soon will not be disappointed. Then...the final 25 minutes or so of their 3 hours of b2b was just unreal! They were due to finish half an hour earlier and, seriously, that sequence was so hard and noisy and incredible that I thought Karenn had come on without a changeover being announced!

Then Karren did come on. OMG, I SOOOOO want them to play at Glastonbury. They were amazing. Quite industrial, very noisy and, in the best possible sense, relentless. I really needed a wee and there was no way I was leaving the floor, even though it wouldn't have taken anytime at all in a club that size. Just fantastic, mesmeric, my ideal kind of stuff.

Surgeon did 0330-0430h and was a perfect follow-on from Karenn. Not quite as hard, but incredibly put together and paced, gradually upping the stakes through the hour to a blistering finish. The crowd was brilliant. So much love and many hugs on the floor. I met so many lovely people and there was zero niggle. Met peeps from Lithuania, Poland, Portugal and loads who had travelled from London, Leeds, Cardiff to Birmingham for the night. A brilliant example of techno at its 'purest', with people travelling big distances to see something that they know will be really special, but without a superstar DJ in sight, really - certainly not what the mainstream dance media would see as such, I'd say. And that made it even better as everyone was looking at each other with big smiles and knowing, gentle nods.

Sir Real came on after Surgeon to take us to 0600h and it was great to see so many people really in the moment, staying on after the 'headliners' had finished. No-one wanted to go home and his set was an excellent closer; more 'conventional' than the earlier sets, but just the right amount of banging energy to get you to the line. And he threw in just the right amount of acid for me, which I must confess I adore when done well (I'm old!).

If anything, the run of really pure techno only served to confirm that I am pretty much a one-genre pony. No matter how hard I try to get into other stuff, and can have a perfectly great time, it's only when 'proper' techno like that hits me that I am truly transported. I shall mourn the passing of Friday night for some time...!

Got home and to bed at about 7.30am and was up at 10.30am for a full day out with Mrs Ben, so have been a little tired.

But it was flippin' brilliant and has now only made me hanker for Glastonbury more, as that's probably my next nights out, tbh.

So bring on the area announcements...

Oh, and @Matt42 - dead jealous of you seeing DVS1...that will be incredible.

:)

Ben

Four Tet b2b Flo Po in the beat hotel was amazing last year, i generally like it, but its better down the front as there is some crowds at the back and that fucking stupid plinth that people seem to crowd around

I found it dull and the volume was really quiet, disappointed I was so mooched of to the SE corner! It just didn't feel like Kieran and Sam it was a bit tech-y from what I recall!

perhaps it improved as it went on. Incidentally saw them later in stonebridge and they were back to what I would call their normal style!

I went to an amazing party in Leeds called Love Muscle at Wharf Chambers on Saturday, it had an electric atmosphere and great music. Its an LGBT friendly party and they just throw the best parties! Disco/Techno vibes and a bang up for it crowd. Cheap booze £5 in.... what more could you want? Perfect antidote to over commercialized events with idiot crowds with a £20 door tax.

That was a great write up. I wish I went along, but I had such a long week I wouldn't have made it past 12am.

I don't have a lot on due to work and moving house in April, which is making me itch. I'll be in Oslo for Radiohead start of June, so hoping there will be a few events on at Jaeger at the time (if anyone has any experience of Oslo it would be appreciated). And I'll just go all out at Glasto.

hoping to get up to Glasgow at easter as well and sample the vibes :) strong scene up there from what I can tell!

I love it up here, I am occasionally in Leeds from time to time I didn't realise it had a good electronic scene, though that's probably ignorance on my part

This thread never fails to give me some new acts to check out, thanks guys. Have to admit, my forays into electronica are limited to gigs and festivals these days rather than club nights, although I went to the recent 3D (Danny Howells, Darren Emerson & Dave Seaman B2B2B) night at Ministry a couple weeks back and really enjoyed it. Brought back some good memories.

I've got Underworld at Ally Pally coming up on Friday, Roni Size at Oval Space in April, Leftfield at Motion and Eric Prydz at the Steelyard in May, Boomtown in August and Justice at Brixton Academy in September.

Btw, for anyone interested, SeeTickets have just put some more Underworld tickets on sale again for this Friday

its a big student town so goes hand in hand really. it is a bit of a wasteland outside of term time though.
