It's only when you lay it out like this that I realise I will probably not see the Pyramid stage all weekend with the exception of walking past it

I've had years like that, it's nice to be in that field for a headliner at least once over the weekend though, the sight of the field full to the rafters after dark with decent visuals is hard to beat. Sadly this years selection means that the only act I'd contemplate would be the foos, and even that would be somewhat half-heartedly.

This whole arrangement stinks.

The Who and Glastonbury / Eavii should be thouroughly ashamed of themselves for pulling a gig for 6000 paying punters / fans - many of whom will have made travel and possibly hotel arrangements, and all who were expecting a weekend gig and now find that they have a mid-week (work day for most?) replacement instead.

It is a sad sad day indeed when these large behemoths ride roughshod over people like this.!!!!!

If you think that's bad, you might want to sit down before you see what Weller's cancelling in order to sub.

Florence was touted as a possible headliner (would have been horrific but still...) So I would say that's a pretty good sub. Phrarell and Weller are pretty big too... Maybe not the most mindblowing subs ever but I don't think they are out of place. Pharell has had a few of the biggest hits in the world in recent years as well as some successful old stuff (if only he could sing it would be great).

most of Pharrell's set is him singing a verse off a song he featured on, then moving on to the next one. a couple on NERD tracks, and then about 7 of his own songs (mostly unknown album tracks).

there's lots of recognisable songs, but as an overall concert performance, it's a bit shit really.

It's not in doubt that the whole cancelling of shows is pretty shitty practice. Especially seeing it happened with both The Who and Weller. Do you reckon The Who insisted on Weller playing???

But selfishly, I'm really looking forward to The Who!

yep he's definitely one to avoid. the shit munchers will eat it up but i had to stand through that drivel once before last year so never again (especially as it'll be an identical set)

Oh, I hadn't realised that PW was cancelling too. I'd only seen the chatter on here about The Who.

Doubly doubly crap.

But he's changed them to confirmed

They are listed to confirmed as they have been confirmed for the festival, they've been moved to the other stage I imagine as that's because that's where Neil has heard they are playing, it's not set in stone

They are going to be playing on the other stage and it's more than probably going to be Sunday, you don't need to be in the loop to know that

Yeah I kind of agree tbh... If he was a good singer then hits like Happy and Get Lucky could be great on the big stage but I does seem to be a case of him being there while his backing singers do most of the work. Would be great if they got someone like Bruno Mars instead with the worldwide hits and a great singing voice!

Ah right I'm with u. I presumed when they were classed as confirmed they would only be moved to the correct day/stage when that had also been 100% confirmed. So all the confirms aren't neccesarily in the right day/stage then!

Thanks

Last time a headliner insisted on the sub it was the Stones and Primal Scream. Look what a triumph they were.

the thing about Paul weller (much like Morrissey), is that if he picked the correct setlist he would be a fantastic main stage booking...he has tremendous tunes from the jam, style council and his solo stuff to pick from...(I've seen him several times over the years, and he always played great gigs, haven't bothered the last 6/7 years to go see him, incidentally when he's now started playing the Jam stuff again, due to the ticket price and secondly his later albums weren't doing anything for me anymore.

if he were to play a career retrospective with maybe only a couple tracks from his last couple albums, I think he will be very good / well received act on the pyramid on the sunday (he will definitely be up for it im sure...another career comeback in the making this could prove to be)

Personally I doubt it going by what I've heard in the last few days, but I guess it's not impossible.

Cheers Neil, I do hope you're wrong! Can you shed any light on what you've heard or is that all tied in to the Sunday headliner debacle?

He has a new album out on 18th May so will be showcasing that I fear rather than spanning his whole career.

Or does this suggest Oasis were on the verge of reforming and the Festival had them provisionally in for the Sunday night but it all went t!ts up?

    • mmm... i note there are several derogatory comments about this... not sure what it says about me, but i could spend a happy afternoon here...   Simple Minds, Deacon Blue and Texas are all great live bands.   hell, i'd even be drawn away from the bar to see James Blunt (if only for a bit of a nostalgia trip for his show on the Pyramid that i admit i hugely enjoyed).   still, with all that said - there's no way i'm going to the other end of the country for it...   🙂

    • Have a great festival to those that are going, I cant wait to get there tomorrow!
    • ah i get ya.. Yeah I hate festivals that have that barrier and front section. Roskilde is gonna be the same, which I'm not looking forward to navigating. Like you say, you end up missing other stuff having to get there dead early. Luckily there's not much we're arsed about on at Roskilde though so that wont be such an issue! hahaha
    • Not directly my expectation but my wishlist   - car seat headrest (it has been way too long these guys did Europe) - death cab for cutie - new constellations - interpol - bush - swimschool - suede - the haunted youth (should have been there this year) - flipturn   and oh yes Yumi Zouma can come any week, day, hour but this is a personal fetish with this band
