How many of you had heard this today when discussing the glastonbury lineup with someone?

Personally i'm still shocked at the amount of people who don't know who Arcade Fire, Jack White, Pixies etc are.

A group of people I know, are talking about cancelling their tickets. My response to that was, oh well if you don't want it i'l have it. :P

Looking at twitter as well the amount of complaints is surprising, I guess it's what happens when you book huge acts year on year.

I always think it's disrespectful when someone says, "Who" at a headliner or whatever, surely it's more of an insult to yourself than a dig at the festival.

It's just strange, I didn't see this backlash at all last year!

every year people moan that the line up isnt as good as V, Reading or where ever mainly because of the wide variety and less mainstream acts that are on.

I would rather go see the spice girls for 5 days at glasto than the Beatles at V festival.....I went to V once because they had an act I wanted to see, never again....

It did strike me as quite different from the mish mash of major UK festival lineups it usually is. Felt a bit more like a Coachella/Bonnaroo one this year where the strength is distributed across the line up.

I'm interested to hear what the general opinion is towards the lineup though from people outside the forum.

Outside of music centric folks and community boards I've looked at/spoken to it seems pretty negative based on what I've seen. But then again people with negative opinions tend to speak up more than those with positive/middling ones.

But then again I'm whiling to donate my left testicle if most of the people complaining have actually listened even a small sampling of bands on offer here. It does lack a true blockbuster name though which is always likely to rile up some feathers.

I said "Who?" to most of them to be honest. Doesn't matter though, I'll still be there, and I'll still enjoy myself. I've been listening to random bands off that poster most of the day to see if any take my fancy. I've ruled out Skrillex, didn't enjoy them.. But I quite enjoyed Jack White so I think I might educate myself on him and possibly go along to see what the fuss is about come June :)

There is definitely a sense of "if I don't know them, I don't care", people aren't willing to try out new bands and they miss out because of it. Last year I was dragged to the Vaccines and I can still safely say I can't stand them, but at least I gave it a go haha.

Last year I found more bands on the full line up that I liked than I did on the more mainstream line up release. So I'm eagerly awaiting the day that the whole line up is announced :)

If those that care about the line up don't want to go anymore, then that's fair enough. The line up is important to a lot of people, and I can understand that. Especially if they've never been to Glastonbury before and don't realise just how much there is to see and do. They'll put their ticket back and it'll go to someone who is going to have a blast. That's all that matters!

the thing is with people's negative comments - who the fuck were they expecting to be on there!? as far as i can see there's a big slab of acts on there to please all. nothing particularly 'pop' and nothing as huge as The Rolling Stones (but what is?) but overall a really well rounded lineup. some people seemingly go to a festival one year and then would be happy for that same lineup to be repeated every year after

Well if you like jack white, listen to some songs by the White Stripes his old band. I guarantee you'll recognise at least a few of the songs! Hotel yorba, fell in love with a girl, seven nation army, blue orchid and my doorbell. Will be surprised if you haven't heard those before!!

This thread reminds me of last year, not only did I get dragged to the Vaccines but my two friends spent the majority of their time at the Pyramid because they "knew one song by them". Needless to say, I spent a lot of time on my own... However, on Thursday night at 2am ish I think, in Bimble Inn, was Skinny Lister. And they'd agreed to come with me, I was so excited and couldn't wait. One friend got in to it with me, the other friend stood there with the most sour face on, because she didn't want to see them. She didn't make any effort to enjoy it or make any attempt to not ruin our experience of it. She kept complaining about the time, the weather etc. so I kept telling her to go to bed then (of course she didn't, that'd be too logical). But she went in with this mindset of hating them, and she ruined it for herself and a bit for us as well.

One joy of Glasto is discovering bands that you didn't previously know or had heard of but had never seen. If I don't come away with half a dozen new (to me) bands then I will have failed to be adventurous enough.

I've said it before and I'll happily say it again: the people who are moaning about the lineup being "shit" obviously have a very narrow minded/limited knowledge of contemporary music. My girlfriend said she was unimpressed and that she wouldn't go if it was any other festival because she only liked Arade Fire, Robert Plant, Elbow and Kasabian, who we've seen countless times. When I pointed out how many bands I wanted to see on the lineup (about 30) she changed her mind because it's very rare that she doesn't like something that I like, even if she doesn't know them. This is my 11th Glastonbury and, musically, it looks like it's going to be my best. And the lineup's not even half complete!

Yeah I've seen pretty much the same. My mates love it (as do I), but we're really into music. It's been said a billion times before, but the people who post on forums like efests are far from representative of the majority of goers. Anyone who had the misfortune of walking past Jessie J the other year (sorry bamber), can testify that this is the case.

I did nearly choke on my lunch when the comments were its a bit shit and glad they didn't get tickets. Trying to express to people what a tiney tiny proportion of the line up it is was just too difficult. In the end I had to agree with them - I too was glad they didn't get tickets!

    • If you didn't see melt banana at Apolo. Go see them at the festival. Insane.
    • Interesting, and thanks for coming back to give an update! I've seen that the second stage looks bigger than usual too, looks to be a Serious Stages - Stellar Stage from distance photos.    Seems like sizing wise stages have been scaled up somewhat this year.
    • I see its cancelled now but they did leave it really late to announce plus they are up against Kelburn Garden Party Festival not to far from the festival site.
    • Easily my favourite set of the day.
