i was thinking they'd be John Peel, but I'll take Pyramid as it'll be an easy set to be right at front for. probably Friday wouldn't you guess? some mentioned a BJM clash, but that's Sunday. i say friday as if they're only playing one warmup gig in Brighton on the 25th, surely they'd be doing a gig by the 27th?

wasnt what i was expecting, but i'll take them on the Pyramid...and Rods & Gabs not too long after them, Elbow into Arcade Fire...Friday could have some decent stuff in the big field. nice start!

Downloaded the new album yesterday. It's gorgeous. Lots of Bruce and the occasional dire straights comparisons. Doesn't anyone think the waterboys?

I know I'm slightly obsessed with mr Scott, ( no place on the line up? Really?) but on first play, that's all I could think about.

Either way, gonna be a great wake up call on the Friday

That clash with Blondie is going to decimate their audience.

Me included.

yeah i thought they'd struggle to pull a sizeable crowd anyway due to it being so early but versus Blondie is awful. i'll probably stick with The War On Drugs but i might change my mind on the day. a shitty clash indeed. Blondie being on so early is really strange

It's totally shitty i agree, and it seems that i am the only one of our gang that would have choosen WOD but i will probably be swayed by Blondie. Having come out and stated last year in a forum i posted that they were one of the top 5 acts that shaped my musical listening i have to really but Debbie bless her has aged like the rest of us and i fear a car crash after the IOW of last year, i have heard that they did a recent show and that it wasn't much cop. Anyway perhaps an early slot might not give her enough time to get smashed as it seemed she was at IOW! Anyway i reckon it'l be fun and with the rest of our crew being there it will be a good laugh, so i have choosen to go along and rue missing WOD.

yeah i imagine the people i'm going with will want to see Blondie which is why i may get swayed that way (plus, if it's somebody good, i'll already be at Other watching the special guests), but i'm hoping i'll make the effort to go see TWOD as they're one of the bands i've been wanting to see the most (even if they are playing the Pyramid to a no doubt tiny crowd)

True i'd hate the special guests to be someone awful and having to stand through it waiting for Blondie, might then have second thoughts! I remember going along last year not knowing who it was and entering from the side walking along only to see the name " beardy eye " on the backdrop, my heart sank! I watched two numbers if only to slag him off, car crash! We walked away after that.

My mate is constantly banging on about them sounding like the waterboys, so it's not just you!

Cant wait to see them. Quite irritated at their being a clash this time of day, but what can you do. Hopefully the secret guest on the other stage is cack so I dont have to hike between stages.

Seeing them next week in Vicar St (best venue in in Dublin) so frees up any potential clash at Glasto if needs be.

Although hearing those FM sounds ripple across the Pyramid field would be beautiful.

It's a ridiculous clash - does no-one coordinate these things?

Having said that I saw Blondie in 2010 - at one of those country estate gigs - and even though I love their music, and DH, it was an underwhelming experience. Hope they've ditched the posturing lead guitarist - Blondie classics do not require lengthy solos.

So it's War On Drugs for me...

This thread has references to

Springsteen

Dire Straits

FM

the 80s

you're all saying this like they're good things.

It's strange but whilst i don't really like those acts particularly (or the 80s more than any other era) i can definitely see the comparisons and i love TWOD. I think they put a modern spin on something we haven't heard in a while and do it extremely well with songs that are very well written regardless of the style...

    • It would be piss-easy for a bot to manage, though.
    • I've heard that ticket sales for other events that use the same system have included the question 'are you still there?' on each window/browser you have with a place in the queue. If you don't confirm you are, it'll assume you're not and that place will drop.   I've no idea if Glasto/See will adopt this, but it would be challenging to keep on top of with many windows open.
    • People who're struggling are already priced out, so I don't think a bump in price will affect who attends. There'll still be a cross section, leaning young. I also think they'll do a soft breaking of the £400 ceiling, keeping the ticket price just below but having postage take it over. Next year the ticket itself will be over that threshold.

    • Not sure if this has been mentioned but new La Roux album out November - was meant to play in 2020 but hasn't found her way back onto a lineup. If any excuse just to hear this absolute banger on the fields next year!
