All I'm saying is that I didn't see an anti Prince Charles protest when he visited the farm. Hasn't his old man personally killed over 100,000 animals in his lifetime or something? Big cats, bears, deer, wild boar, game. Just for fun like. The amount of birds he has killed is absolutely staggering. Tens of thousands!

And I'm not even including Diana in that number.

His sons went hunting this year the day before appearing at an anti hunt fundraiser.

Why aren't people outside the palace protesting at that?

I do think there are a whole load of anti royalists on the hunting vibe..very active on Facebook etc..removed quickly if you try and protest near them though as you might imagine!

well there are regular protests outside buckingham palace, not least about the bear skin hats the pathetic royal guards have to wear.

But this is a metallica thread, not a royal family thread so not sure the relevance of bringing them up? It comes across as you trying to deflect attention from this metallica c**t.

Being a Metallica fan this is old old news. The documentaries on the band - A Year and a Half in the Life, Some Kind of Monster - show either him shooting guns or talking about hunting.

And here he is talking about killing bears in Russia.

Hes also narrating a series on the History Channel about Alaskan bear hunting.

Not excusing it at all (I'm an animal lover and very anti hunting and when I saw that clip first I jolted in my chair) but Americans have a very different view on guns and hunting. The country was literally founded on both. Its talked about openly just as camping or going on a road trip would be.

Its a systemic thing there. Not so much on this side of the pond where we know better.

Ugh! What a wan**r! I don't know anything about Metallica, so it's all news to me..but exactly because ii is so endemic and accepted in the USA, all the more reason to talk about it and change it . Attitudes are changing with social media and the spread of information

Agreed but starting a Facebook page or whatever against one hunter will do fuck all. Its just an excuse to make people feel better about themselves by taking the moral high ground. Liking a page or retweeting something means absolutely nothing. Total waste of everybodys time.

Same for that Kony nonsense a few years back. Outrage all over Twitter and Facebook but as always, the situation was far more complicated.

You can hunt pretty much anywhere in the US, there are half a million gun licenses sold every new hunting season, 30m Americans hunt and its an industry worth $20 billion.

I know its topical because hes playing and all, and I don't agree with it, but James Hetfield isn't the issue. If you feel that strongly about it use your time elsewhere.

This is not about this man in particular, I couldn't give a sh*t about him , but it highlights the issue.

Personally I have had times in my life when I have been very active, and was a member of the Animal Liberation Front before they became more violent. At the moment I have 3 young kids, so I am less active. But from being a vegetarian, and back to carnivorous , it was informing myself through social media that made me go vegan 2 years ago. I'm grateful for the people who put the information in front of me because I was ignorant.

Guns laws are a horror story, and the USA is surely as stubborn as they get even with their ridiculous rate of deaths by guns. But we can only keep trying and hope for common sense to prevail one day. If we just give up, then nothing will change, so you will always have people like me bleating on

Btw, I do think that things as simple as Facebook campaigns can change opinions. Even if each page got 5 new people to think about the issue, that's all moving in the right direction...

I'm almost certain we'll get Whiskey, maybe quite early on too. I also think they'll do Lords of Summer but if it's only one new song in a whole set, I'd take that.

Not sure about set length but it could be less than they've been doing, another one I think they'll throw in is Memory Remains instead of Ride the Lightening. And Harvester of Sorrow instead of Blackened.

I'm not going either but I'm still so hyped about Metallica getting the oppertunity to headline and I'm hoping the beeb show their full set.I can't imagine Metallica objecting to it.It just so happens that I've booked that day off work for a charity event during the day so I'm free at night to watch.

To be fair, a lot of the live shows I've watched recently on youtube I have thought the same. Lars drumming is really not solid like it used to be and has the knock-on effect of making the band sound amateurish at times.
